Wondering how it’s lasted over two years. I note you didn’t paint the half shaft. Has that rusted. Is the freewheel hub still working nicely?
That’s why I always carry a chainsaw with me
Any idea about how to fit that when there is the a/c compressor in that place ? Mine is a R/R Classic 300tdi
You could recover the titanic with those buggers 😳
Please make a new video 😫😫😫
I’m about to tackle this job on my Td5 double cab- very helpful video. Out of interest, what would be your reasoning for wanting to use the longer extensions as apposed to the shorter version? Mine isn’t rotten near the spring hangers, but wondering if longer extensions are in fact easier and look better when fitted?
Non c'è che dire la Land rover lavora bene. Una casa gloriosa
That’s never an easy job! I've just done this on my 300TDI. but it was not as bad as your's ! However I also replaced the footwells on both sides as once descaled they had a little more rust than your customers truck. My bulkhead feet were as rotten as yours on the lower edges. so I've replaced them with YRM replacements, which only requires the spot welds to be drilled out and is not too hard; since they connect the bulkhead to the chassis and sills which could compromise the overall strength of body to chassis. Having my footwell front and lower sections removed provided good access to weld the complete outrigger on, and I cut a section of the inside chassis out and fitted new metal as it was pitted, and once the outrigger is welded on, is hidden and inaccessible. So it was as well to restore it now. Replacing the outrigger and bulkhead feet at the same time required doing the foot first to maintain the position in exactly the right place, and it was necessary to support the bulkhead and take many measurements as with no footwell everything moves about. so it's taken much more time, working outdoors in sub zero conditions up in the Highlands does require many layers to keep warm 🥶 Having completely new footwells, bulkhead feet and a new outrigger, all finished with Raptor anti corrosive primer then 2K body and chassis paint, seams sealed with Tiger seal, has resulted in everything being like new and all followed with Waxoyl mixed with a little gearbox EP90 will, I hope, protect inside and outside the bulkhead, footwells and chassis for another 28 years. I am lucky to have the luxury of taking my time, as it's my own truck and I don't want to have to come back to the feet or footwells in the future. BTW I think it was Mike @BritannicaRestorations who showed how to cut and weld the top of the front outrigger when access is restricted.
I wonder if you have actually considered the consiquences of this? As length/wheelbase is considered a major chassis change you are legally required to inform DVLA (as you're uk based). The consequences are that it stripps the VIN and associated data, so you loose registration and have to IVA and reregister the vehicle as a highly modified vehicle. You cannot keep the original reg number and have to give it a new VIN number as it is no longer the original vehicle as far as the DVLA and data are concerned. You also don't increase the lad capability, in fact you loose whatever weight you put in, so as that looks Discovery 1, that's whatever weight off the 2720Kg MAM. it's not worth it for the additional air in the vehicle IMHO.
Thank you for this talk/demo. It's such a relief to hear a no-nonsense, honest user experience. I have just treated our 2011 L200.. Application was just as you described..and yes, I'll treat the wheels/spare wheel asap. I'll look out for more of your videos..they are bound to be good jb ps. I assume languard would be perfect for my '53 Austin Hereford
Any clearance issue with the rear springs?
Desperately waiting for the next video!
Nice work! I did mine a few years ago but replaced everything cos I don’t know what the previous owner had done. Really worthwhile doing yourself and definitely recommend the one shot grease instead of the oil. I do wish I had a garage big enough for the disco 😂
is this channel finished again.or!
So just an normal day in the workshop 👍🏻🏴
The TD5 top pins are Shimmed (or should be) as I recently nipped one of mine up by taking a spacer out (2003 TD5 110)
Well it turns out I have a similar issue, checked the diff oil at the weekend and it was overfilled, but I'm still running oil in the swivels and not grease. I need to change the swivel ball seals and the axle seals. Everything else seems ok so I'm thinking I could just take the whole assembly off! Might be heavy.
Signed, SEALED and delivered! 🙏👍🏻🦘
Are you sure on the preload being set with the swivel seal in place? I've always set them with the large seal removed from the back of the housing as per the manual. The seal adds drag and gives a false reading so in reality you're setting them on the loose side.
Hi..you might be right on that with the seal being in place i will check thankyou for the info.
Looking forward seeing some holiday vids on your tour landyis keep you busy
@@All4Overland also check the preload setting as early Railco bush types are 4.5 to 5 but the later double taper setup is lower, around 1.5 to 2 as I remember. Keep up the great video's. 👍
Correct. Preload is set without the seal in place as per the manual. Not sure it would make a huge difference, though.
@@andicog Thanks for your post. Just finished doing my 2011 tdci. Haynes manual says 3.6 - 4.5kgs. After seeing this I looked online LR manual says 1.16-1.46 kgs. Oh no , have to pull them apart and start again🤦
Hi, I am trying to find the clip you did that mentioned the rear view camera and replacement mirror you were recommending. Please could you let me know which it was and if you are still happy with it. . Many thanks.
Hi...the video that i mentioned the rear view camera is the video with the auxbeam unboxing and for the cost of the rear view mirror camera its been pretty good. Certainly better than not having one at all.
Taking a big risk
Yeah we nearly ran out of beer!!
Biker music for a Land Rover explorer 😂
I don't think Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd is classed at Biker music
Song choice 10/10
Nice One Thanks!!
yup, that'll do it .. change your tyres there.
amazing what a bit of T-cut and elbow grease can do
Hi...you wil be amazed what you can do with a bit of polish lol.
Lovin the tunes 👍
Cheers Mate..
God I miss that campsite! 😂
Best campsite ever!!!
Lovin the mud! And the nice weather!
You missed a great Trip mate..
Nice, don't forget check your nuts 👀!!
You could have saved yourself a ton of unnecessary work by breaking down everything to get to frame by buying gantry crane i own many vehicles besides land rovers i own a rare h3t alpha hummer truck that has lots of overland gear , bed rack dual drawers roof rack , & tent when i bought this truck 2 years ago i didn't bother to inspect the frame it has rot in frame in many locations in bed area of frame to save time and eliminate undoing everything im buying a gantry grane that rated for 2000 pounds of lifting, not sure if sold in your country but its portable and can be disassembled for storage or save space when not in use its very disappointing to discover hidden damage previous owner or dealership kept secret only for a sale
Hi. I have looked at buying gantry cranes most of them that I have looked at haven’t got the height needed to lift the body off the frame and roll the body out and the ones that have the height are too big to fit in our yard so when I get back from the trip that I am on I am going to build my own which will do everything that I need
What do you recommend for building the back box camper unit and over hang to sleep in ? 😊
That kinda set up can work really well if you get everything in the right place
@@All4Overland what material do you use for the walls and ceiling ?
I have a HUGE if not immense complaint!. There I was excitedly watching this episode, zero views, zero comments. On my way!!, I'm gonna be the first to watch and comment...paused the video to make my morning brew, returned with the fresh brew and pressed play. ..This Video Is No Longer Available. WTF!!!! ... WTF'n F? ..... suppose I'll have to remove those sills and body mounts from me old disco1 instead. later the same day, video reappears. Well too late now chum... I'm off to watch graham Cahill and friends. see yas later. nice camp up. Surely an overland rig would have a hand axe. Mine does, as do many others and none of us carry a rubber mallet to bash tent pegs. Where did you plug in all those cables before the jackery doodah turned up? I can appreciate that one of those jackery's could have it's uses, it could no way replace and off grid vehicles 12v system. it's a backup or weekend warrior tool. Now get back home, wasting time enjoying yourself when you should be rebuilding the disco. comment #4 😞
@@only-vans complaint registered there was an error in the video so it got taken down and had to be put back up again we do have an hand axe but we don’t carry it when we are prepping the truck to go abroad as it would only get confiscated by customs. Before the Jackery we plugged everything into the inverter that’s in the truck but it is not a pure sign wave inverter never liked plugging the laptop into it. And as for doing the disco I am replying to you from a campsite in France on our way to Spain but will get into it when get back
@@All4Overland France is definitely the most camper friendly country in Europe. have fun kids
Nice camp these power banks are definitely the way forward 👍🏻🏴
@@shaunmccaw2911 it is a nice little campsite and the Jackery is an amazing piece of kit
New 1000w jackery looks good, my partner uses the smaller one in her Freelander and I run a 3000w inverter in the disco, always good to have power options when of grid camping
Hi mate..the new Jackery is an amazing piece of kit and like you say it is really good to have the power options..for us it makes sense to have one for all the cameras.
I made mine so it is like the Range Rover much easier now to take the engine out
Hi...i definately am going to cut the front on this like the range rover once we get it back together it makes sense to have the removeable core support.
Can't wait to see the frame! Going to be interesting to see so fingers crossed it goes well pal.
Hi mate...can't wait to get the body put on hopefully you will see it first hand as you will be here lol..
Good to see the progress, fingers crossed your feeling much better and back on it mate!
Feeling alot better mate can't wait to get it done now.
Best terrafirma winch installation I own 2 land rovers that I'm building into overlanding builds a 07 lr3 & 04 D2 this will concern my D2 , im installing a arb front bull bumper my concern is I have always installed a warn winch that you mount sideways and you can unbolt the lever housing and rotate switch to the upright position and reach through opening in bumper so you can lock or unlock so you can pull out winch cable, im thinking of buying the terrafirma 12k winch and it doesn't look like you can rotate lever to the upright position so you have access to winch lever like you can on some warn winches, or maybe on terrafirma winch it don't matter or maybe the remote has a unlocked function so you can manually pull winch cable without the power anyway nice defender
Hi..there is not an unlock function on the remote and the lever is a 'T' shaped handle type so is not adjustable so you really need to access it from the top...the winch is a pretty good winch but i would say the warn one is better.
@All4Overland thanks for your response I decided to go ahead and buy terrafirma winch for my 04 D2 sense most upgrades are terrafirma and for price 688.00 us price from lucky 8 with all its features that a excellent price compared to warn that double to triple the price I already own 4 warn winches on my 05 jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon LJ, 07 yota fj cruiser, 09 h3t hummer truck, one for rear trailer hitch that sit in a cradle, hyena overland from Poland makes a rear nice built in rear hitch that made for rear bumper that makes lot of land rover products for your style defender if you haven't heard of them check them out you might something you like , getting back to my D2 im installing a arb bull bumper this unit will fit its only nice to turn lever to manual to pull out cable faster than remote I will just that to bend down and reach under bumper to lever I could probably use the exercise 😀
Or wagon with a high hab
Hi mate....that would be the ideal piece of equipment to lift the body off but unfortunately where we are the track into the yard is too narrow to get anything in cos i have access to a tractor with a loader but we can't get that round the corner of the gates.
Paul why not get a local crane hire firm in to lift the body off & onto the new chassis. Probably more cost-effective? & definitely safer
It's a Shame your not local to me in Manchester as that's how I removed and refitted the engine in my patrol ( the silver one from NW 4X4 meeting you came to) My friend has a crane hire company
Hi mate...i have just replied to your other comment on the reason why we can't get anything into the yard to lift the body off so will have to do it the hard way.
lickle scratch
Yes mate.
Progress is looking good, I’m not sure of measurements but would a short nose 110 prop work from a puma or whenever they changed from the salisbury?
Hi mate..no a short nose prop would be too short still will get a 130 cut down.
Ive missed the fall out etc. Not sure watching now all the name changes
There was no real fall out but the channel is now All 4 Overland and this is the name we have settled with and will be as we are going forwards.
Glad to see you're back.
Glad you have found us you have lots to catch up on.
The frame sounds interesting is it just going to stand on feet then braced for support that's quite a high level you're going 😊
Hi..yes it will be on flat plate feet even though its being lifted quite high the weight is very minimal at around 400KGs so should be just fine. And if it isn't it will make very interesting content as it hits the floor.
hi realy good vid just about to do mine,, did you pull the loom out towards the engine or back wards disconecting the front? and did it fit laying along the top chassy length wise? cheers,,
Hi...glad you found the video useful i pulled the wiring loom out from the back towards the front and that gives you plenty to lay it back on top of the chassis and rewire your lights...also securing the cable with cable ties to the fuel lines.
@@All4Overland cheers for that,,
Love following along with the build progress, out of curiosity will you need to have Heimdall Q plated with the second hand modified chassis, or will it fall under exemption from Iva/sva inspection as the vehicle is over 10 years old.. the dvla website is confusing. I was looking at what you can get away with for the 40years historic tax exemption regarding engine conversions etc I’m just in the middle of binge watching the build 😅
Hi mate...fortunately the chassis technically is not second hand it was an unregistered chassis that has been lying around for 20years..and as for the sva that is something that i will have to look into when i get closer to the end of the build.
Is that some sort of weird reaction in the galvi at the back?
About 29 mins in
@@calvinstorer there is some ash staining on the back and there is some rust staining on the back right hand side of the crossmember the ash is to be expected as it is a second hand chassis but does not affect the galvy
Keep track of your bits using labelled sealable food bags and labelled boxes. 👍🏻🙏🦘
Hi...we do use resealable freezer bags to keep a track of the small stuff but its just the quantity of all the bits that come off the truck you just run out of space so its just easier to bolt them back on to where they are going.
the unsafest sow on earth ffs lol
That’s not the sketchiest thing I have ever done mate
