  • In this episode i finally pluck up the courage to cut my chassis in half and do a 15 inch chassis extention...this will transfer the look and handling of the vehicle when we eventually rebuild it. It has turned out to be a massive amount of work.

    Watched this a couple of days ago, but just happened across the latest Ed China video (ep 62) where they've dipped a range rover chassis over at Shropshire galvanisers. Really interesting insight in to the process and the extra bits they did to make sure the acid dip and galv all drained out correctly and took to the chassis. I imagine it'll be exactly the same process for yours so well worth a watch for anyone interested.

    • @All4Overland
      @All4Overland  Месяц назад +1

      Hi...we will be having ours dipped at Stoke galviers so not that far away from shropshire galviers but the process is exactly the same...the chassis will be acid dipped and then galvied. Like the one that Ed had done we have degreased it and had it shot blasted and drilled some extra drain holes where necessary...but it is really important to make sure there is no grease or paint left inside the chassis. I am actually half way through the video that Ed did so will have to finish watching it later...glad you enjoyed our video.

      @@All4Overland a lot of work but I'm sure it'll be worth it. Your chassis is going to look absolutely amazing once it's dipped, and very unique!

      It should look really good once its been galvied it definately will be a one off though

    That's solid. When I was building my chassis I seen a snapped navara I then proceeded to weld great big 4mm plates along the chassis rails

    • @All4Overland
      @All4Overland  Месяц назад

      Hi...i think i went a little bit over the top with the reinforcing for this one but better to be safe than sorry...and navara chassis are not the best and snap quite easily anyway.

    Love the chassis build it is the perfect length now with 37inch tires it will be proportional ,beautiful 👍👍👍👍👍👍

    mine has rotted exactly where you are drilling lol good to know the steengh is at the top.. btw didn't landrover do a 16 inch stretch for a couple of specials.

    • @All4Overland
      @All4Overland  Месяц назад

      Hi...yeah the reinforcing sections are definately at the top of the chassis and landrover did do some 15/16 inch stretch chassis for some of the range rovers.

    Bra the welding is savage!!. Why didnt you go 130 inches?

    • @All4Overland
      @All4Overland  Месяц назад

      Hi mate...i didn't want to stretch the chassis out to 130 inches or use a 130 chassis as land rover used to make a 116 inch chassis for the range rovers so i thought i would replicate that and plus its the ideal length for what i want..

    Love following along with the build progress, out of curiosity will you need to have Heimdall Q plated with the second hand modified chassis, or will it fall under exemption from Iva/sva inspection as the vehicle is over 10 years old.. the dvla website is confusing.
    I was looking at what you can get away with for the 40years historic tax exemption regarding engine conversions etc
    I’m just in the middle of binge watching the build 😅

    • @All4Overland
      @All4Overland  4 дня назад +1

      Hi mate...fortunately the chassis technically is not second hand it was an unregistered chassis that has been lying around for 20years..and as for the sva that is something that i will have to look into when i get closer to the end of the build.
