How can you have a character with an American accent in Bath, England in 1813, and not mention the War of 1812? Ask the writers of Disney Doctor Who because I can't answer that. This was a terrible episode. More time was spent on flirting than on anything else in the story. 00:00 Recap 04:04 Review

This Steven Moffat written episode was the best of the season. However, that isn't saying much when considering the competition. There was a twelve minute window where the story was engaging and felt like Doctor Who. But sloppy writing and an overabundance of messaging tanked what could have been a decent episode. 00:00 Recap 14:58 Review

Season 5 Episode 6 of Star Trek Discovery covers a pre-warp society making human sacrifices to make it rain. The plot elements were eerily similar to TNG S03E04 Who Watches the Watchers, and Stargate Atlantis S01E06 Childhood's End. I guess this was supposed to be The Orvilles's City on the Edge of Forever, using time travel to create a difficult moral dilemma. When it turned out they would go to the 21st century I had to force myself to continue watching, this series's obsession with current day is so tiring. I thought Isaac was great, even with his annoying company. The whole moral dilemma about Gordon and his family was too contrived and the solution way too convenient. I think the Orville is a ship with misfits after all. Mercer and Grayson are so stupid ... again. They knew Gordon had gotten a new life after reading his obituary. Them going in 10 years (technically 7) after he went native was so unnecessary and bound to be a disaster. Instead of doing this, they could have just waited out, if the dysonium mining would work and then go back the other 10 years without disturbing Gordon's life in that timeline. And just when I thought I hope they won't tell Gordon about the whole thing when they rescue him 10 years earlier, that's exactly what they did. It's unbelievable that any military organization would put such foolish people in command positions. And you know why they are so foolish? Just so the plot can happen. This is Abrams-Kurtzman level of writing. The story would have worked for me if Gordon had actually stayed in the past (and obviously be no longer a part of the show), but like this it only shows the general problem with all time-travel stories: If something goes wrong you can always go back again and again. And about the fighter: I thought the same thing as the old man. Why do they have the fighter at all, if they never use it? I guess they don't move it out of the way, because pilots are exercising in it daily off screen.

"He touched ...mah piece!" The movie length pilot for this series was fantastic, the train, the morph effects, all really good for tv. The stories were mostly fun, like the boxing match episode, even had a guest appearance of Denise Crosby (from TNG). Some great villains and some nice comedy touches (the sketch artist at the hideout who drew Briscoe and Bowler hiding behind the rock was a rib tickler!). I wish they stuck to the sci fi storyline I really did enjoy that aspect, but it could have been over played as well like Star Trek Enterprise did. 😅

It's interesting that McFarlane writes better stuff than Braga. It seems Braga was trying to play Babylon5 and even got President Sheridan in. But it was horrible, fan-fiction level. The president of the union going to the capital of an enemy without escort during the general election there? =-O Then again if you remember that Braga wrote such *gems* as STTNG Generations, First Contact (the movie) and the STTNG episode Genesis, then there is some explanation. There were two scenes I liked in this episode: The ones of the Krill delegation on earth. Seeing this as a clip made me decide to purchase and watch seasons 2 and 3 of The Orville. So those scenes were brilliant, the rest was trash. I need a break from the Orville and watch some STTNG.

The not-Q lady was not convincing. After 50000 years of evolution you'd expect those beings had a bit more wisdom. She felt like a spoiled teenager. Also, the high production values with those different "mini-universes" and their massive special effects didn't make the story better. What I always liked about STTOS and STTNG was how they were more theater-like, creating a great story through the interaction between the characters and not through monsters and pit-piu. Monsters and pig-piu to me belongs to Star Wars. It felt like the visuals were more important than the story. And what annoys me quite a bit about The Orville in general is how there is a 20th/21st century reference in nearly every episode. In Star Trek, Roddenberry always reminded the writers to neither reference 20th century stuff or even TOS stuff too much and that was great,

I have not watched Discovery, Picard and Strange New Worlds, and I have enjoyed the first two Seasons of the Orville, but ***this was the WORST episode of any Star Trek style show I have ever seen!!!!*** worse than the two episodes of Lower Decks I have seen, which were also really bad. It being so bad literally made me angry. I don't understand why Mollie and the Old Man are so lenient, how was this "pulled off well"????. The writing was atrocious. The crew behave like total fools. The Orville was trying to do an Alien style show and basically ripped off not only Alien but also STTNG's "Identity Crisis", which did the whole Human turning to an Alien thing a hundred times better. The first episode of this season was also not good, especially them doing a live shooting exercise next to a staircase!!! So moronic! The only reason I will continue watching the rest of the season is because I already bought the whole season. If you think the episode was decent, then consider the following: - The area with no stars makes no sense. Even if there are no stars, one would see the distant stars, there should be at least some dark cloud or something that hides the stars, but there was no mention of that. Could have been mentioned in a side sentence. - the 3 highest officers go unprotected on an alien station, despite having been warned of some kind of evil presence and having agreed that although the warning is from myth it may be based in reality. - the Alien station already looks ridiculously evil. - Kelly tries to touch stuff. Burnham-style. - The alien spore blossom already looks like a face-hugger. The second I saw it, I knew what was coming. - the Admiral goes near the blossom without understanding what it is. How is he, who is a university professor working on a desk job even allowed on such a mission. - After sprayed with alien substance and starting to transform, the Admiral is not put in quarantine and neither are security officers posted or is he observed permanently. - Nurse Park touches the Admiral's clothes on the floor with bare hands. He deserved what he got. - Talla looks for intruders without a gun or a team to back her up. - La Marr goes into the conduits without a gun, knowing there is an intruder - The alien magically does magically not attack the boys. - The wedding ring becoming the way to find the transformed Admiral is so cheesy. Also the whole "my ex husband turned into an evil alien" premise is so ridiculous. - I was waiting for the Aliens to magically transform back after hit by the virus. - The arrival of the alien ship and the aliens transfer to it conveniently.happens off-screen.

Ah good old Andromeda. I'm old enough to have watched this when it aired, at least the first couple of seasons. Streamed the rest years later. It's a show I really liked at the time, but if I'd watch it today, I'd probably be cringing at a lot of stuff. It definitely didn't age well in some regards, especially CGI, costumes, sets and that kind of stuff. But it's not horrible either, and especially enjoyable if you like a certain amount of cheese. It had quirky and mostly likeable characters that FELT like they were part of an ensemble show. Pretty much all of them had arcs throughout the show and grew. As opposed to Star Trek Discovery, lol. It was definitely a show that went through multiple identities and its quality was inconsistent, ending with the pretty terrible season 5. In some ways its a bit of a relic from an age of transition between episodic and serialized. Some of the longer plots ended up being nonsensical but on the other hand some standalone episodes were really fun. Always hated the fact that they got rid of Tyr, though.

I swear RTD has been watching anime and has been inspired by specifically Gainax anime. I’ve seen the snow and past memories a couple of times. The most notable was a character from ‘DieBuster’ in episode 3. She was a deeply unlikeable character until her mech gets so badly damaged there’s a hole in the cockpit and the moving starts in space remind her of snow. The music and reaction of the character really made you feel it was significant and snow was a central reoccurring theme to this 20min episode that achieved more than 8 episodes of Disney Who. Next is the corridor scene in episode 8 of Who. There’s a scene where a woman in red gives a “get your BS together” speech to the main character crumpled on the having an emo moment. Same for ‘The End of Evangelion’ when Mysato shouts at Shinji to move.

And I don't care if the PM is Rassilon, or Rogue is Romana, or Flood is the Rani... I just don't care what is in RTD's mind, and I don't know why _anyone_ would be interested in what's in his mind. I'm not angry or mad. Just disappointed! When you talk about your friend not liking this episode, I've seen even the most enthusiastic [especially for this season] Dr Who fans on YT and elsewhere being underwhelmed, disappointed or 'what was that?!'. I heard about the cinema event/s for this finale where negative noises were made [especially during the 'pointing at sign' moment, seriously did anyone in the writers room even 'point' out to RTD how awful that was?!], and people left the venues just looking...heck, my parents and I have not spoken about this episode since. I just felt...nothing! Not even at Ruby's exit, BECAUSE she is revealed to be coming back. If she's never coming back, I probably would've felt at least a little emotion, even though her friendship with the Doctor is an instant 'besties' one that never really develops. If I can have two positives here, it's Gabriel Woolf's voice as Sutekh and even some of the music. But! Completely foreshadowing a reset button with the big dusting at first [it'd have been kinda cool if Kate and the others helped the Doctor or something], the revelation of how and how long Sutekh has been there, some of the exposition, the 'kind woman giving the spoon' scene going on for way too long, the silliness [even by Dr Who standards] behind Sutekh's defeat, and the underwhelming Ruby reveal. I can appreciate the 'ordinary being extraordinary' theme, but that was executed far better with Donna and maybe even Clara. The snow and Mrs. Flood may be for next season, but my patience for Dr Who mystery boxes is wearing way too thin now. So thin, I'm seriously considering not watching new episodes until a new showrunner is in charge - not even worth a Disney+ subscription for me. Now after this long talk, I'm off to laugh at memes of 'Sutekh hanging around on the Tardis when it gets close to blown up or destroyed or cloned in Day Of The Doctor and The Giggle something all this time'.

At the start of 73 Yards, the Doctor speaks of the Worst Prime Minister having been stopped in 2046, seemingly by the Doctor himself. Then 15 disappears. (It has to be that ALL the Doctors disappeared from existence, including whichever Doctor it was that had originally stopped the PM. Though it could have been 15 after Giggle but before Church on Ruby Road.) Ruby then lives out her life and she herself stops the PM. But then at the end, Old Ruby gets Young Ruby to stop the Doctor from disappearing. Her entire life lived - now never happened. Everything reverts. It's now back to being that the Doctor (whichever one it was) DID stop the PM. Now cut to Empire of Death. The Doctor, Ruby and Mel go to destroyed 2046 to get DNA info - mandated by the bad PM - provided by Ruby's real Mom. But everything was destroyed in 2024, so the bad PM never grew up to be the PM, so DNA info was never mandated! What a tangled mess RTD made of just this one single tiny bit of the (so-called) story.
