This is ALBANIA.
As a traveler, I see Albania as a uniquely wild and authentic place with its distinct Balkan vibe and friendly locals. In a time when rewilding and renaturalization are becoming more mainstream, it's important to recognize that Albania's nature remains some of the most original and untouched in Europe. The country is sitting on a treasure of immense, often underappreciated, value.
However, Albania is also one of Europe's poorest countries, with many locals working abroad to support their families. The increase in tourism brings mixed feelings among the population. Some hope it will create jobs and lead to a prosperous future, while others fear that it might harm the country's natural beaut...

Crossing Elba in 3 days! - Hiking the Grande Traversata Elbana
Was easy to find albergues? Is good signaling the way?
Hey! Depending on the season it is easy ir not too easy. But you will find at least one option in every town, year round. In Winter the possibilities are definitely limited. The signage was very good most of the times, I don't remember big problems with navigation
Hi there! Thanks for a valueable videos! In a few days I'm planning to start a cross-Cyprus hike from Paphos to Zafer Burnu (Cape Andreas), so I will also cover majority of the Besparmak Trail. I just wanted to ask how did you return from the end of the trail to civilization? I'm planning to visit Girne later but it looks like I will have to walk back until at least Dipkarpaz and get a bus from there if there is any. How did you do, did you hitchhike from the cape or did you walk backwards? Thanks in advance, all the best!
Hey Marcin! Thanls for watching!Thats a very good question and I regnet to not have mentioned it in the video! So the Cape is a very famous place, tourists as well as locals go there, you will find people visiting it with their car. Even in January we saw 5 cars within an hour, we kept on asking and 2 guys eventually picked us up and lucky for us they brought us to Girne. If you happen to be there, you are right Dipkarpaz is the first zivilisation, but the public transport from there is very poor. I am sure you will figure out a way to get back, but the bigger the town, the better. For example if someone offers a ride to Famagusta, go for it rather then going to Dipkarpaz. It seems like a ride in the wrong direction but you will find several Busses to Girne from there. Hope I could help, wish you all the best for your adventure, it sounds like a lot of fun :) if you have any other questions feel free to ask. PS: contact Tugberk for up to date information on way condition, water, military practice,...
Thank you, enjoyed every single minute od the video (not just this one)! Best wishes!
Thanks a lot :)

Sadly it feels like it. But there are also many people in Albania that care about nature and give their all to protect it. We gotta hope they can succeed

Disappointed Romania is not as shitty as tou hopped it will be?
🤣 why do you think I would be?
@@strawanza2502"I was actually a bit sad that the trains the Romanians are using are quite modern...". I was also sad being in Vienna and seeing all that gold stolen from the Transylvanian mines by the Austrians. Or by the fact that the Austrian painter divided Poland with Russia and after he lost the war, Austria was not occupied by the Russians, but Romania was. And stolen again. While US pumped money in your asses so now you can have a superiority complex. Fuck off dude, don't come back.
So you arrive in Cyprus, then what? your only option is to go back to Turkey. No you cannot cross to the Republic of Cyprus.
Hey Ian. Not 100% sure about not being able to cross. We spent a month in NC and heard different stories from Locals and travellers. Some said we would not have troubles but others said we would get rejected at the border. Anyway, we did not try it as our plan always was to go back to Turkey. I am not enterily sure but I think I remember that there even is a ferry connection from NC to Libanon, so in theory one could use that connection. Greetings
Just re-watched this awesome video because i plan to spend the next 2 weeks in tuscany and needed some inspiration! If you could pick one place or part of the hike, which would you recommend most?
Thanks for that interesting question Stütz Bua! The towns of San Gimignano or San Miniato are really cool to explore and are in my opinion the most beautiful towns we passed on the way
Great video! My wife and I are thinking of going from Lucca to Rome in November. Really hard to find info on whether accommodations/restaurants are open or not. What do you think?
Hey Graham! Thank you! I can't really tell you about November, but December/January was pretty limited. If you want, check the links in this or the Via Francigena survival guide video, there are links where where you can find the accommodations along the way, sometimes they even tell which months they are open/closed. ruclips.net/video/6Mx5sxO3S9A/видео.htmlsi=UMMJCBGEhhGaETD5 Greetings

Come and walk in UK many public rights of way off the roads. I do want to walk this trail but will look at some of the variations to avoid the really busy road bits.
Hey Ashley. I recently watched a couple of videos about some UK trails like Cape Wrath and it looks amazing. I love the wilder trails like Lycian Way or Besparmak Trail (check my videos). You can basically camp everywhere and not crowded, and really wild.
This is invasive in north america.
Thats right, I actually say that 😅 it was filmed in Germany, so here it is actually a pretty Important plant to feed a lot of solitary bees, caterpillars and other insects. But when researching about it I saw it is invasive in many other parts of the world actually. Greetings
interesting vid man! do you need some form of visa to do workaways in Bulgaria? coming from non-EU coutries.
Hey, thanks for your comment! That probably depends on which country you are from. I guess you can find that information at the Website of your countries Foreign Ministry or at the website of Bulgarian foreign ministry. Greetings

Dziękuję za miłe słowa!
I haven't watched your survival guide yet, but I really appreciated how you resisted romanticizing your pilgrimage and how you presented it in such a realistic, "warts and all" way. It really gives me a good idea what to expect when I do this part of the Via Francigena. I have always found Italy to be a country where you turn one corner and are confronted by unspeakable beauty, then turn another and there's unspeakable ugliness waiting for you! The only thing I would add is that I'm originally from a country where unspoiled nature is very easy to access (NZ) and so when it comes to Europe I'm more interested in the human footprint (not the trash and traffic!) but the history, the art and architecture, the food and the wine etc. I'll look elsewhere for tips on that, but thanks for these three really enlightening videos. ps. It was brave of you to do it from December to January because I've been in Tuscany at that time of the year and it can be absolutely freezing! Still, you had the trail to yourselves...
Hey Christopher! Thanks for your comment! And thanks for watching the videos i really appreciate it! Yeah it is definitly a way for people who love history and Ancient buildings. Towns like Lucca or San Gimignano are just amazing. As you said, the food, it is just amazing. I am lucky to taste great food on all my journeys but Italian cuisine is just special. We were quite lucky with the weather. It was mild, nearly no days below 0 degrees and also not much rain, unlike nearly all our other long distance trails 🤣 Enjoy your Via Francigena! And all the best!
What was the weight of your back pack?
Hey John! Did not weight it but mine Was around 10-12kg, also depending on food and water. Keep in mind, we did the hike during a longer journey, so definitly there have been a bunch of stuff we did not use or did not need. I think if you always sleep inside and plan only for the journey, and do it during a warm peruod, it should be possible to get down to 6-8kg. Depending on Personal needs and Equipment of course. Greetings
@@strawanza2502 Thanks for your reply. I will be travelling alone and plan to stay inside, hopefully sometime next year. This might seem like a silly question but I only recently found out that Italy has wolfs and bears. Did you carry bear spray or do you know whether others that walk the Via francigena carry bear spray?
@@johnwheeler3071 thats no silly question at all. Which part of the VF are you going to walk? If you only walk Lucca to Rome, don't worry at all. No bears in that area. Wolfs are no danger to humans at all, so don't worry about them. Bears can be präsentiert on the Alps. Maybe carry bearspray. However, the chance to spot and especially being attacked by wildlife(in this case bears) is very Low. Anyway, there are a bunch of shepherd and/or stray dogs that sometimes get quite close. Usually they only bark but yeah...not too much fun. In my opinion the chance of meeting aggressive dogs is higher then meeting bears.
@@strawanza2502 I want to start in Montigny Switzerland so I can go up and over the alps. I believe there are also lynx in the alps but I think they are shy of humans. I think I'm right in saying the earliest I would be able to start is at end of June if I want to use the track and not the road. It is possible I change my mind and start in Aosta as its lower and I might be able to start earlier. I understand the rice fields in Piedamont are not the most exciting part of the journey and it also has lots of mosquitos which won't be fun. It might be better in Piedamont though wetter in May as there might not be so many mosquitos as in the summer. As you can see I'm trying to weigh it up.
@@johnwheeler3071 I See, yeah that sounds like a great idea, I actually would love to do the alps part of the trail as well one day. Lynx, as you said, are absolutely harmless and seeing one in the wild is very rare. Like I said, I think Dogs and also Cows, especially when they have young ones to protect, are a much bigger threat then wildlife. I would love to give you some information to make your decision easier on where to start, but to be honest I have no idea about this part of the trail so I will pass on that. 😅

Hi, nice video, very informative. May I ask, how did you travel via the island? E.g. if I take flight to Larnaka, is there some bus to Girne? I cannot find anything on websites.
Hey! Thanks for your comment! Well, that is a good question. The public transport is not great but it is also not too hard to get around, at least to major cities/towns. Keep in mind that North Cyprus (Girne/Kyrenia) and the Republic of Cyprus (Larnaka) are divided and crossing the border could become a problem. I didn't do it myself but I heard many totally different stories about this topic. From no problem at all to being rejected at the border. I think it really depends on the officer you meet at the checkpoint and maybe even which passport you have. However, there is an Airport in North Cyprus. Ercan Airport, just next to Nikosia/Lefkosa. From there you can catch busses or minibuses to Kyrenia without any problem. If I saw it right, Ercan Airport is only reachable from Istanbul and Izmir at the moment. So, wherever you come from, you would probably need to make a stopover to reach this one. I just read about it and probably the classical way from Larnaka is to catch a Bus to Nikosia, cross the border by foot and then take another Bus from the northern side of Nikosia to Girne. Hope I could help you, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask =) Greetings www.ercanairport.net/flight-information/ cyprus-faq.com/en/north/aeroport/kak-iz-aeroporta-larnaki-samostoyatelno-dobratsya-do-girne/

Wow!! This is amazing!!
