The Besparmak Trail is an about 250km long Hiking trail connecting the two northern Capes of North Cyprus. It was designed by Tuğberk Emirzade and Thorsten Hoyer (German Extreme Hiker). Existing paths were used and new connections were made where there was missing links. Officially oped in December 2015, it is walked by approximately less than 20 people per year in one go.
While promoting this video we actually learned that there are many hikers in Cyprus, hiking rather day hikes then multi-day.
A Guidebook, is planned, yet there is no date for when it will be published.

Thanks for the report. One to add to the list but maybe not in January! Cheers.
Thanks for your comment Miranda! Yeah I highly recommend it is such a beautiful trail, we were just unlucky with the weather. I really think March/April (especially because of the flowers) or September/October are probably the best months to do it. Summer is insanly hot in Cyprus so no way this will be fun. And Winter as we experienced it can be, well, very wet 😅
Amazing video. Very informative and inspiring. Thank you for shining a light on this amazing trail.
Thanks a lot Mustafa! And also thanks to you again for your help!
thank you, wonderful story!
Thanks a lot!
Sanai monastery is one of our favourite places and I always wondered if you could get to the cave we thought we could see. We no longer live in Cyprus but now feel we need to go back and do this amazing trail in its entirety. Did you have any encounters with the Blunt Nose Viper? They usually sleep during winter but you get the odd one around, it’s always put me off camping in Cyprus. Awesome video, thank you!
Thanks a lot for your comment! Did not see blunt nosed Viper on this trail, but for sure they are there. Only snake we saw was the Montpelliers Snake you see in the Part 2 video. I never had any troubles with snakes while camping. I usually put up my tent during a time of day when snakes are not that active anymore and already pack everything up when they are not active yet. So I think that risk is pretty small, would not keep me from doing that trail :) that "valley" above Sanai Monastery was one of my favorite views of the trail, really cool. If you have any other questions, let me know. Greetings!
@ thank you, I’m just itching to go back now and make good on the children’s wishes to go back for a long holiday to the place they grew up!
Super video, really interesting to watch 🚶♂️🚶♀️
Thanks a lot Lisa

Hi, nice video, very informative. May I ask, how did you travel via the island? E.g. if I take flight to Larnaka, is there some bus to Girne? I cannot find anything on websites.
Hey! Thanks for your comment! Well, that is a good question. The public transport is not great but it is also not too hard to get around, at least to major cities/towns. Keep in mind that North Cyprus (Girne/Kyrenia) and the Republic of Cyprus (Larnaka) are divided and crossing the border could become a problem. I didn't do it myself but I heard many totally different stories about this topic. From no problem at all to being rejected at the border. I think it really depends on the officer you meet at the checkpoint and maybe even which passport you have.
However, there is an Airport in North Cyprus. Ercan Airport, just next to Nikosia/Lefkosa. From there you can catch busses or minibuses to Kyrenia without any problem. If I saw it right, Ercan Airport is only reachable from Istanbul and Izmir at the moment. So, wherever you come from, you would probably need to make a stopover to reach this one.
I just read about it and probably the classical way from Larnaka is to catch a Bus to Nikosia, cross the border by foot and then take another Bus from the northern side of Nikosia to Girne.
Hope I could help you, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask =)
Greetings
