The Caledonian Sleeper Train from Scotland to London 🚞
The Caledonian Sleeper Train from Scotland to London 🚞
The Caledonian sleeper train is an overnight train between Scotland and England. We took the lowlander route from Glasgow, which left at 11:40pm and arrived in around 8:00am. A usual day train would only take around 4.5 hours, but as the sleeper isn't a high speed train, the travel time is longer - this allows for a full night's sleep. You can book a seat, a bunk in a twin room, or a luxury room - we went with a twin.
It isn't cheap compared to an ordinary train journey, but is a great option if you want to avoid paying for an extra night in an expensive hotel. Not to mention that it's a great timesaver!

How to Live More Simply 🌿 3 Steps to Simple Living
Просмотров 4192 месяца назад
How to Live More Simply 🌿 There was a time, you may remember it, when the world slowed down. Life became strange but simple, home was everything, and, without the competition of engines and machinery, birdsong rang out clear and true. But then, that year or two passed, to be talked of no more, and life sped up again - now at ten times the speed that it was before. “We cannot go back to the way ...

Dealing with Seasonal Depression by Embracing Simple Joys Ah, it's been a tough Winter this year. Coming out of it, my mood has been very low, verging on a kind of seasonal depression. I use my SAD lamp, go to the gym, and get outside. But still, the lingering low mood remains. I recently learned a new term which covers it: anhedonia. The middling, "bleh" feeling that doesn't feel bad enough to...

    How much is a standard room? Does this include two people and the cost of the rail ticket?

    • @PilgrimKat
      @PilgrimKat 29 дней назад

      I think it depends on how far in advance you book as to the price. We booked around 3 months in advance and it cost £265 for both of us, which included both the room and the rail ticket. It's around £350-450 for the ensuite shower/double bed options. And £50 for a seat, which is just a standard rail ticket I guess. Hope that helps! 😄

    Was not expecting this to be so nostalgic and evocative for me. I've done my share of train travel by night, though usually with my little blanky-snuggling munchkin sprawled out on the double seat above, and me curled up on the floor underneath - trying not spill over into the aisle way! There is something about catching a glimpse of the moon from a train at night. I don't why. For someone like myself who leans vegan, your brekky looked like a delight. And what a bookshop. I just read WITW again recently...It's a marvel - no words, really!

    Thank you for a beautiful and sensitively done documentary about the clearances. I am a descendent of the MacLeod family from Culacnoc, Skye who were forced to leave their croft and emigrated to Australia under the 'assisted emigration scheme'. My Great grandmother was the first MacLeod in our family tree to be born here, whilst her father Red Rory (Roderick) travelled to Australia on the Araminta, in 1852, aged just 4 years old. What a harrowing journey it was on a terribly ill-eqipped ship with a cruel and incompetent ship doctor who held terrible attitudes towards Gaelic speaking immigrants. Rory came out with his siblings and his parents, Red Sandy (Alexander) and Mary MacLeod. Their youngest, baby Hugh passed away 3 days after arrival. Mary and Sandy were contracted to work for one of the largest farms, Waldie's run in Ballarat Victoria, just prior to the Gold Rush. Mary was a dairy woman and Sandy a Shepherd. They saved 100 pounds in one year and purchased land in what is called the 'Central Highlands' region of Victoria, and this place was named 'Glendaruel'. They later acquired land in the Talbot/Creswick area and there are many places given names after significant landmarks in Skye and the Highlands. I have beautiful photos of Rory and his daughter, Mary, my Great-grandmother. Thank you once again, for helping to fill in parts of their story so that they are not forgotten over time and over oceans.

    I'm a Londoner with a cockney accent. It's really tiresome living in Scotland because everyone thinks you are the epitome of pure evil and responsible for all of Scotland's historical woes. Every week I have to deal with this ginger bearded nationalist in my local supermarket who gives me the stink-eye on the checkouts, from the moment I approach, until the moment I am in the car park. Scottish kids these days grow up watching Braveheart and think its a historical document. All the English did was pay off the corrupt Scottish lords. Thats it. Blame the English, hate the English, but all of the evil work was done by Scots. I think Scotland is a great nation with the potential for being a great independent nation. But this will only happen when it sheds its corruption. Exactly the same circumstance that existed then, exist now. Scotland is more corrupt than any third world nation, and most government money circulates between a few "favoured contractors" and the Scottish Parliament. Westminster is utterly corrupt, but since moving up here I realised that Scotland is so corrupt it makes Egypt look like a role model for fiscal responsibility.

    Beautiful video and great advice!! For myself, the most critical aspect of 'simple living' is a positive, questioning and focused mindset. An example of that would be....when deciding to purchase any item, I ask myself: 'Do I need or want this item? How will this item streamline/simplify my life? Is there a membership required? Is this a consumable or non-consumable item?' Also on the subject of stuff you already have: 'If you haven't used it in a year it needs to go. And, everything has a place....so when you use an item, clean up after yourself.' Those are just a few tools I use to live simply.
