    What i dont understand is the huge carbon tow spar caps but right in the middle of the wing where the load is highest you just but joint the 2 halves together. If the loads are low enough that they can be transferred to the spars by a few strands of carbon in the center section reinforcement, then you could dispense with the spar caps altigether and avoid the surface distortion i see in the skins altogether.

So last night, I mixed up some epoxy and used the dauber sponge to wet a strip of the fabric along the cut end. I basically made a section of prepreg. It turned out great. so the CF fabric is described as 12k 200g UD Carbon Fiber Fabric Unidirectional cloth. I buy all my CF from Aliexpress as they have the best prices if you don't mind 2-3 weeks shipping. here's a link: www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004353591241.html?src=google&src=google&albch=shopping&acnt=631-313-3945&isdl=y&slnk=&plac=&mtctp=&albbt=Google_7_shopping&aff_platform=google&aff_short_key=UneMJZVf&gclsrc=aw.ds&&albagn=888888&&ds_e_adid=&ds_e_matchtype=&ds_e_device=c&ds_e_network=x&ds_e_product_group_id=&ds_e_product_id=en1005004353591241&ds_e_product_merchant_id=562123074&ds_e_product_country=CA&ds_e_product_language=en&ds_e_product_channel=online&ds_e_product_store_id=&ds_url_v=2&albcp=19366866438&albag=&isSmbAutoCall=false&needSmbHouyi=false&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw59q2BhBOEiwAKc0ijRiQMVEZGrmqL6puuHsrFZ34FrXM4B6ulcZ_RSCLBwzNei9mLzxY2xoCHm4QAvD_BwE

    Good morning, I realized that in my garage, I have a roll of 6 mil greenhouse plastic that is brand new. I'm wondering if it might work for mylars if it's waxed with 3 coats of Partall #2? Do you think that might work? I'm thinking it would work for vacuum bagging. I just need to come up with fittings, etc. Could you let us know what equipment you have like vacuum pump, etc. I am planning to use our Food Saver for these first wings, I hope that will work out. Do you buy tube type bags and then seal the ends with acrylic latex caulk? Where do you get your bags and material for mylars? Sorry for all the questions. I am 77 and flew RC planes in the past, but this DLG technology is a whole new ballgame. Peace

      good morning. Plastic sheeting is measured in mils. One mil is equal to .001" . So your plastic is roughly .006" thick. The material I use for the wing mylars is .75mm thick (or about .030") and is the thickest I can use comfortably. I've tried allot of plastic for vacuum bagging...lol and I found polypropylene (PPE) is about the best. I got mine from a company called " ePlastics". Thicker material = better finish quality when vacuum bagging. I made my vacuum pump out of and old bar fridge I picked up at a yard sale. I like using it because it is very quiet, and it's wired to a vacuum switch that turns it on if pressure drops. Because I know you'll ask, the vacuum switch is part# F-4200-X30 and the vendor is "Airtrol" airtrolinc.com/f-4200x%20series-vacuum-switch/ I do use a FoodSaver type bag that I picked up on-line. Comes in a wide roll. I found the best seal for the ends of the bag is good ole latex caulking. Thanks for the questions.

    Every day I'm buying materials and making things I'll need to complete the vacuum bagging process. So far the wings and tail feathers are ready to glass, but I'm waiting on delivery of carbon fiber supplies, etc. Today, I made a hot box and a little sponge dauber tool. I had a hot box that is the wrong size for wings, but it had the thermostat and light bulb I need for this hot box. Thanks so much for all of your help in the form of your videos. I love your attention to detail in your methods of construction. Peace!

    Could you please tell me the reason the horizontal stabilizer is attached under the boom?

    • @amonus-air2160
      @amonus-air2160 5 месяцев назад

      sure! At launch, the dlg will climb at a steep angle. Once it reaches it's peak, you want it to kick it's tail up to achieve a level attitude. This "kick" needs maximum down elevator. Hence the mounting on the bottom. :)

    Good morning. What did the dollar store sell that you repurposed into mylars?

    • @amonus-air2160
      @amonus-air2160 5 месяцев назад

      hi. They were sold as binder/report covers. I wish I had bought more cause I haven't seen them since. lol. There nice due to the thickness ( .5mm for tail group) and as all mylars I use for vacuum bagging , I'll use the thickest I can get away with. ( .8mm for the wings) Thanks for the question.

    I'm cutting cores today. I've practiced on junk foam, and today I'm ready. I am employing the testing that Curtis Suter recommends. That is to get it all set up and then put a heavy item such that your block can't move and then place the hot wire with power off on top of the block. Move the arm down, and it will drag the wire across the top of the block. When it gets to the TE side of the block, you can see if the wire is going to exit both sides of the foam at the same time. A dry run, so to speak. Then reset everything and turn on the power, and make your cut. It works great. I've cut 3 perfect blocks with 3 more to go. It's a little extra work, but it allows for fine adjustment of the settings before you actually cut the block. My confidence is way up! Thanks again. David

      That's awesome! You're on your way to a wing !!! I can't tell you how many hours I spent finding the sweet spot for temp/speed but it's satisfying once you nail it . 👌

    Don't know about using the toilet paper as paper towels would have been better to use in my opinion for soaking up the excess glue.

      yes, paper towels would soak it up, unfortunately too much in my experience. You still want to leave enough resin for a good lamination.

      I keep mine at around 4 to 5. That's all dependent on your weight, construction etc...
