For the smile theory, people keep saying he has stitches to "Keep his mouth shut, not make him smile." while that is correct, he actually has both! X Stitches at the corners of his mouth holding it into a smile. You could argue that it's just his demon/half demon form BUT! In the pilot when he's seen watching Charlie's news report his shadow has the X stitches too. Also, when he was saying "Radios not dead..." his shadow was frowning for a few seconds. I think his smile is stitched and his shadow reflects that, but at the same time it shows his true emotions, along with his cane.

very important note on why Cid doesnt get bothered by kidnapping of his sister or Alexia. In very first episode we see Akane being kidnapped and Cid saving her. So he had experience with girls being kidnapped in the past. That's why he just assumes "eh, it's some bandits kidnapping girls again"

I think you missed the actual plot point - Why Shadow thinks it is all acting, is because he really IS making it all up as he goes. What he doesn't realize is that the girls ARE NOT acting, the world itself is reshaping itself to fit anything Shadow says to the girls. Is it his power or the girls? Well, those things he keeps to himself don't change, so it is probably the girl's power.
