Most dark knights apparently don't even bother learning proper techniques and just use magically enhanced speed and strength as a crutch instead. Plot twist, he's actually the DM. Wants to play the side character(s), makes shit up on the spot that somehow perfectly fits into the world, can make any new character on a whim to construct the story he wants to see, etc.
Cid did show he cares for at least the 7 shadows, so if he ever figured out that the cult is real he would think: "these mfs did all that to the girls... what would be the most eminence in the shadows way to end then in the next 24 hours?"
One of the Best description of Cid Character. Being the reason i liked him so much. The determination and drive to reach what is impossible really show how much his dream meant to him. It is his whole life goal to become the Eminence in Shadow no matter how many people will try to ridicule him for that. Note: If you play TEIS Game, where the game also tells the side story of TEIS. You can actually see how Cid interact with people when he is not in his Shadow persona. He is a really chill dude and won't mind hanging out with his friends as long as he have the time. This also includes the Seven Shadow, Alexia, Claire or any of his friends for that matter. The guy is pretty chill and focus more on having fun with his friends when he is just Cid.
@@doomslayer039 That's one of the reason of course. The Edginess makes him such a fun Character. And more than that, i like him because He actually train himself to become that. Cid's mindset is simple in his shadow form. Let's say you want to be a doctor because a doctor saved your life in the past and want to be just like that. Cid is just that he got inspired by how cool shadowy characters are and wants to be just like them. Question: Theirs an injured person in front of you what will the doctor that saved your life do and what will you do? Answer: the doctor will aid the injured person and you who wants to be that kind of doctor will follow and do the same. Now for cid perspective. Question: A terrorist group attack's the school what will itachi,Zero, kira ..etc do and what will cid do who wants to be a shadowy character just like them? Answer: itachi, Zero, Kira ...etc will massacre the terrorist group and cid will follow these examples of shadowy characters and take their roles. Cid call's it roleplay because he is taking the role of a shadowy character in his society. when cid met Mary for the first time cid got really excited because a REAL eminence in shadow is Infront of him that's why he copies Mary entrance and lines 😅
I laughed real hard when I realized he wasn't going around saving people because it was the right thing to do, he just wanted to say the same lines as she did.
He himself explained what path he was taking. It cuts off everything that is not needed and leaves everything that is needed. And plus the crazy dimension of desire for the goal. And we have our hero.
I actually agree with your breakdown of Sid/Shadow's personality but I disagree with that Last conclusion. I feel like if he ever figured out that it's all real. Yes 1st off he'd have a bit of a crisis of identity and reality. But immediately thereafter he'd dive in head first, he would chew the scenery like an actor, and enjoy as much as he could of the experience. Much like he did with the blood queen arc.
If you want to see Shadow as an incomplete character, i would recommend reading TEIS Web Novel from 143 chapter. It's a sequance from John Smith arc. But the original timeline changes in there (as anime follows light novel's path) In there, he talks about that he is not sure what eminence in shadow is. Which was not very fun to read. The point of Cid's character is his confidence to be able to achieve his dream no matter how stupid it may sound. But other than that, i agree that he will try to enjoy the scenery.
I think he would actually try to make the situation last as long or even do things to help the organization just to get his “perfect” ending. He cares more about what his character will be than actually helping. So he might drag things out on purpose.
Cid isn't a psychopath, he's just profoundly, completely autistic. Only LARPing matters to him, and he can only really view situations through his extensive immersion in dramatic cliches.
nah Cid is textbook definition of psychopath, according to google "Psychopaths are classified as people with little or no conscience but are able to follow social conventions when it suits their needs". and considering how little Cid cares about people only ever seeing value in them as audience.
In truth, Cid is accidentally the author of his own story. He's not aware that all his actions are the catalyst that make his World. He's Psychopath, it's true. But despite being a psychopath, he knows what's right over wrong. He knows what is righteous and the true justice. Eminence is Shadows shows us the opposite of Fourth Wall means. The author of the Story is behind everything, where Cid is also the Co-author.
my friend was explaining this anime to me and all i was thinking was "wtf is bro talking about" then i reluctantly did the 3 episode test and damn, this shit fire.
Now that you mention it, he does say: Named character. If he is looking at the world like a theater performance, that makes sense. But if he also treats it like a some kinda RPG game. Also, aren't those two basically the same thing for Cid?
Not really. NPC is a derogatory term to mean sub-human. He doesn't treat anyone as sub-human. The word "Mob" is very popular in most Anime-inspired fiction, even if it's not videogame related. You can hear it even in Romance anime sometimes. Cid is very keen about the art of the spectacle. If he thought everyone else is an NPC, he would not have become the Eminence in Shadows. It's because he treats everyone, including himself, as characters, or "actors" to be specific, that he is able to achieve the most ridiculous spectacle and stage setups. Episode 1 is a proof of that. The guy literally did everything he could to meticulously gaslight the marine guy into thinking he is weak, just so that he can mop the floor with his brains when he least expects it, with the most powerful martial arts technique, which is a big-ass mass at the end of a long-ass stick. The guy literally used reverse-grip, since it's a meme in the martial arts community, to fool the marine into thinking he's an amateur and switched to true grip after saying "Guess I'll get a little more serious then." He literally has everything planned when it comes to the spectacle. The 2 OPs the Anime has, are very good representations of his mindset on the spectacle. @@SeriesZap
@@danielantony1882 You're using the current definition of the term NPC, it doesn't mean sub-human. An NPC is a Non-Player Character and has it's roots in TTGs (Table Ttop Games) as an NPC is any character not played by the PCs (player Character). Video games use it in much the same manner as the TTGs and the now it is use to discribe any person who does not act of thier own accord but blindly follow a narrative or programming just like an NPC from a video game of TTRPG.
While that's true, it's not a word or way of thinking he uses or utilizes. His way of thinking is completely theatre-based, with different categories of actors. He doesn't think he is the main character and everyone else is an NPC. That is just not the objective reality. It's true that the meaning between Mob and NPC are similar, but the word NPC implies something that the word Mob doesn't. So even if very close in meaning, translating the word Mob as NPC is a very double-edged sword, especially if it's a mistranslation, such as translating the neutral word "character" as NPC, which is an extreme conclusion, since character describes literally anyone and everyone, while NPC implies hierarchy of importance, and a videogame-style vocab, where, again, from the modern context, AND from Minoru's context, has a snide implication of someone being sub-human, which Mob doesn't have as much. @@priorityecko4989

@@Gentifgnhe made everything up. He even told her he made it all up at the start. As some kinda rp. So when alpha and others join in he sees it as them joining the Rp not them joining some made up story thinking it’s real.
Its tough to speculate about the motives of a fictional character, when what really matters is what the author wants to do. But, I think that Cid's main problem is that he has not accepted that the new world is real. He is in denial and handles it by seeing it all as a game.
Shadow cares a lot how people view him. He could ask for all the money made by his underlings but I strongly believe Shadow considers that a blemish on his image. He must look as if he's above everything. Weirdly enough, the only way he can acquire money is begging for it as his lowly alter ego, Cid. Those at Shadow Garden understand that Cid pathetic and unassuming image is meant to hide Shadow. Shadow wants to *appear* as awesome as possible, that's all.
Now that you mention it. In vol 4 or like upcoming season 2 episode 9-12 spoilers: Epsilon says that Cid is just a role to hide Shadow. He is always "on" he can never have a break. That makes Epsilon sad.
The reason he doesn't ask for money from his "underlings" is that he doesn't actually think they are his underlings he just thinks they are his friends roleplaying with him. So, if he ask for money from gamma he views it as a loan that he would have to pay back.
I am still waiting for the plot twist that the Goddess Beatrix is in cahoots with Diablos/Aurora and is an actual Goddess of Reincarnation that purposefully pulls the string to cater to his fantasies and Dues Ex Machina's his entire story. It would be funny if even Aurora was from the same school as Cid, and reincarnated 1000 years earlier and selected Cid after watching his Chuuni lifestyle and dedication.
Shadow is really the only thing he is representing someone that's willing to discuss everything for his goal and everything else is just an act, something he can discard when needed to be discarded. The coolest part isn't his s*** time of skills and magic, but the fact that he mastered all of those skills and magic plenty of MC's have tons of skills and powerful magic, but he mastered everything not only that, but he also doesn't like borrowed power most times. Before watching video I though it was obvious that shadow was either and psychopath or a very disconnected sociopath, I'm leaning towards the later though, as he shows a wide variety of strong emotions as long as its to do with the sociopathic things he cares about
Well I disagree with him learning that all of it being true will have negative impact on him. Yes Shadow is playing this character but his wish is for him to actually become one, so if even find out it would be like dream come true for him. I believe what would actually happen would be that he would start to be much more active and make the current misunderstandings real. After all he is a great at stealth, detection, fighting, music, science etc. Currently he is doing it half ass as he thinks that each thing that happened is not connected but if he learned that they were he would like crazy fallow the entire line of command, fallowers etc. so that he could finally feel fully as the person he imagined
Basicly the entire story structure would then traform to Code Geass Anime. Which is not bad, i like Code Geass, but changing the story line that much... I can't say i ever saw a series with such a drastic change.
I would argue that rather than a dream come true moment, he'd consider that as just another successful RP session and move on to the next one on his bucket list. I mean, to me. I feel like the joke got old around Volume 3 and I'm fully ready to Brick it by the time I was caught up with the LN. I feel like other characters in this archetype like Saitama and Ainz Ooal Gown are more compelling for a number of reasons, but mainly because of their inner conflicts. Saitama's depression and Ainz does the same thing as Cid, except he's self aware of that fact and hates himself for it, as he never wanted it to be like this in the first place. he's just past the point of no return in his mind and the drama comes from that. what breaks first, Ainz or the house of cards he's standing on?
3 totally different characters and positions. Saitama is a god that wants to find a challenge. Ainz is forced into character by his circumstances of being head of an ultra powerful chaotic evil clan. Cid is a chunibyo and living out his old fantasy by choice. The only similar trait is they are all OP.
In regard to Overlord it's quite the opposite with me. I dropped it after the 4th Volume cause I was just getting completely sick of Ainzs personality and lack of development. Where as Cid's personality I find entertaining and have no expectation of development, thus won't be disappointed when there isn't any. But that's the thing, each person has different tastes. The thing is, that I think anyways, is some people came into the show expecting character personality development without realizing that Cid is meant to be a parody and that there WON'T be any personality development for the MC.

Great analysis. You definitely read vol 7. I can't help but get upset when some viewers' interpretations are so off the mark regarding the story and characters of eminence in shadow. For ex. when ppl say Shadow is n't a good hero, I smh at such comments.
That may be an issue of the writing or portrayal not being clear enough for people to get to the same conclusion. I personally don't like the writing, nor do I consider him a "good hero". The "I AM ATOMIC" scene highlights the over the top nature of the character and the inconsiderate nature he has to destroy countless homes and possibly stores which would ruin some people's well being for some time. Mind you he did this mainly for vanity which is to look cool. Some volumes clarify that he had a "radar" for people and he consciously doesn't want to harm random people. During episode 1 when his classmate got kidnapped he decided to make a show of the rescue and made horrible decisions (Also how did he throw glass onto the top of the hand holding a pistol? The pistol is covering the front of the hand and the gunman has comically bad reaction time) During Cid's delay for nightfall anything could have happened to the girl too making his decisions illogical. Not directly helping his sister was also dumb and the way his mind is constantly shown to be so far from reality and away from other doesn't help especially since he doesn't clarify his intents and the amount of plot armor he has to be coincidentally right when he does random actions is weird ^ He prefers to play a caricature but that shows us very little of his actual character and his psychopathic and sociopathic tendencies are highlighted even more. Some villains could be people under bad circumstances and may be able to redeem themselves (writing doesn't allow this) but Cid is incredibly immoral since he let his sister, classmate and people he interacts with suffer or have a bad time. He also kills with zero remorse and at times enjoys it. Cid is not mentally well and I personally wouldn't take the writing seriously, I enjoyed the show a lot more once I stopped caring.

Cid's mindset is simple in his shadow form.
Let's say you want to be a doctor because a doctor saved your life in the past and want to be just like that.
Cid is just that he got inspired by how cool shadowy characters are and wants to be just like them.
Question:
Theirs an injured person in front of you what will the doctor that saved your life do and what will you do?
Answer: the doctor will aid the injured person and you who wants to be that kind of doctor will follow and do the same.
Now for cid perspective.
Question:
A terrorist group attack's the school what will itachi,Zero, kira ..etc do and what will cid do who wants to be a shadowy character just like them?
Answer: itachi, Zero, Kira ...etc will massacre the terrorist group and cid will follow these examples of shadowy characters and take their roles.
Cid call's it roleplay because he is taking the role of a shadowy character in his society.

But the original timeline changes in there (as anime follows light novel's path)
In there, he talks about that he is not sure what eminence in shadow is.
Which was not very fun to read. The point of Cid's character is his confidence to be able to achieve his dream no matter how stupid it may sound.
But other than that, i agree that he will try to enjoy the scenery.

nah Cid is textbook definition of psychopath, according to google "Psychopaths are classified as people with little or no conscience but are able to follow social conventions when it suits their needs". and considering how little Cid cares about people only ever seeing value in them as audience.
It's INSANE how well edited the video is and how well you structured the narrative. I can't believe you only have 200-ish subs.
He doesn't treat the world as a game though, he views it as a theatre. NPC isn't even a word he uses, that's a complete mistranslation.
@@priorityecko4989

i honestly knew all this but ah its so nice seeing someone else appreciating him
Cid is all about effort and dedication.

This anime is too goated
Its the Bruce Wayne is the mask Batman is the real person argument, Shadow IS WHO he is Cid is the mask the character
though funny enough Cid the character and person ends up subverting this a bit as Cid tends to think Shadow while its who he wants to be is the game not the end result hes already achieved
Interestingly I DO NOT know what Cid and Shadow and yes i mean BOTH of them would do if they ever realized that all the random BS theyve been spewing is real. if it ever came to life that the cult was real and shadow garden was not a LARP group he might dive into it or he might breakdown completely
Part of playing the role of shadow which he WANTs to be the truth is how he ends up checking off bucketlist items the entire John Smith arc is a prime example of this
he in one go decides hes going to play the trope of elite secret agent who betrays the organization he works for in order to save it. and does this because he wants the money the organziation has been making for himself because hes a bit greedy
the irony and where Cid the mob and person subverts this is that he thinks he has to steal from mitsugoshi when in reality like was said all hed have to do is ask and theyd give him everything without hesitation

Saitama's depression and Ainz does the same thing as Cid, except he's self aware of that fact and hates himself for it, as he never wanted it to be like this in the first place. he's just past the point of no return in his mind and the drama comes from that. what breaks first, Ainz or the house of cards he's standing on?
unfortunately the cards cid is standing on will most likley never break which i hope happens thts prob a unpopular opinion

Shadow has much more success as a shadow broker than he realizes. Conversely, Cid is a failed background character; his stunts draw too much attention, and princesses keep falling for him.
One of my favorite animes
Not directly helping his sister was also dumb and the way his mind is constantly shown to be so far from reality and away from other doesn't help especially since he doesn't clarify his intents and the amount of plot armor he has to be coincidentally right when he does random actions is weird
^
He prefers to play a caricature but that shows us very little of his actual character and his psychopathic and sociopathic tendencies are highlighted even more.
