I love this anime. None of the people I know watch this anime seriously, they treat as a purely comedic anime. I love your take on the show ❤

I like how exaggerated everything is. And i respect how Cid has such a fun dream that's why I can relate a lot to him. Most people would say how dum his dream is but if you have that kind of mind set then your probably naive. But that's my opinion if you do think his dream is dum that's ok we can still be Friends.😅

I too irl act like a mob character, I do not wish for attention, but I do play as a character to fulfil certain scenarios and watch it play out without me directly influencing things. And if the "story" didn't go as the way I hoped for, I get mildly irritated but just move on with my day.
So Cid being Cid is relatable to me.
During his moment in Rose in episode 10 of season 2 something clicked, and I think he was broken by society. And that might be why he still thinks its all the game, he was gaslit into believing his dream is unatainable, so he goes for 2nd best thing - roleplaying his dream. He doesn't accept the notion that it could be realised, and thats why he views everything as a scenario everyone is playing into. At least I see it as a possibility lol

A good example of the people playing into it mindset would be when he “comes up” with the cult when he meets alpha but then we later see that it has been around a lot longer than him but he had no knowledge of it until later and so he just though alpha and the original 7 were just playing along until they decided to “leave”

@@calebhilderbrand7132 there has to be some similarities with the fiction on Cid's world and the reality of new world. Though we can just assume it's all a gag by the author and he made it blend seamlessly as if it was real all along.
Plus most of the things that turned out to be true are all common cliches in storytelling. It's not that deep until Cid realizes it's not a facade
No, he definitely sees it as a possibility now that he has magic. He literally said so himself. He is both role-playing and not at the same time
what i love about this anime and what the author does is 'cause and effect', its simple yet brilliant, the author genuinely gives shadow consquences for his actions, unlike any other isekai where whatever the MC does, its right and there's nothing to it. Like even when shadow was a 10 yro with a bag mask n kicked ALOT OF guy's butts, they came back for revenge, showing shadow's consquences, AND HE DOSENT EVEN CARE 😂 its great

I mean one example would be when he took the ring from asshat and lost it on the balcony for rose to use later which was technically what he was gonna do but completely different and accidental execution

His most memorable moment is when he took stab wounds all over his body to charge and fine tune his magic to win completely and utterly. "Fun fact about the human body..."
Cid is literally the perfect man to cultivate cause he have the temperament of what a cultivator should have in order for them to grow beyond their true limits.

This video reminded me of how strong of an antagonist Sherry will probably be, when she inevitably returns, aparently she's still not back in the LNs. Nobody hates Shadow Garden as much as she does.
Cid really excels at building up his adversaries, and since everybody else is too weak he needs too lol, right now in anime hes building up Rose, he build up Alpha and Delta he fought in the previous arc, he gave confidence to Alexia who might play a huge role in the future since I feel like she's being set up as someone important, and he made Iris and Sherry hate him.

His dream is to be the hidden power behind everything. Funnily enough he doesn't seem to realize that is what he has become despite himself. He thinks he still needs to achieve things yet his female army harem has done a beatiful job of putting all the pieces in place.
My bet is latter in the story he will hear of his own exploits second hand and become convinced he needs to face this person himself xD
Shadow is the Dues ex Machina for the “main characters “.
He is a stagnant character and everyone else has character development. I know his strength and skill and power grow but his personality and perspective never change (in the anime, I have not read the manga or light novel).
I love his character tho, there is no reason to change it.
Except he's not - you can compare his performance in Vol. 2, Vol. 3 and Vol. 6. He never breaks OOC, he finally succeed in his goal to make *both* fun and profit - and Cid was finally on the same page as Garden because he actually *prepared* Alpha

I came to this anime since I really thought Shadow was cool
But as I watched the anime, you can tell more and more that part of why he seems to even hold back when fighting people, is it’s lonely at the top I can imagine.
His character constantly holding back, and testing those he faces off against, was one of the aspects I really liked
I love this anime for the characterization we get, and even if the anime is questionable at times, he continues to be my favorite part of it

Cid is weirdly mature and very soft towards kids which surprised me.
In each arc we get a character that parallels who cid was and his inner struggles in hope to achieve his chunni dreams.

@Lucci136 Besides Rose completely fitting that role I'll have to overlook her since she would have died long ago if not for Shadow being stylish bandit slayer and several other occasions. But perhaps the original hero simply hasn't been born yet and Cid is fucking up the cult early for him
I rolled my eyes when i first heard of this anime, but it turned out to be one of the best animes I've watched. The sound design: Peak, the animation: clean and stylish, the pacing: perfect. Everything I've seen in the first two seasons has been so well done i found myself replaying sections to analyze what they did. The "teleport" behind Beatrix was done so well that i actually gasped at how clean and right it felt at that moment.
To an extent, you can even watch this show as a comedy show, purely because Shadow hasn't quite realised what he's doing is real. He's just saying things to look cool, and somehow keeps rolling nat20s.

Tbh am actually interested in the plot its honestly not bad
i find OP character shows more entertaining because there's more nuance to the story. rather than: "get stronger to kill big bad guy", it can actually play around with a few ideas. him thinking it's a game and trying to look as cool as possible was an incredible and funny decision that absolutely makes the anime. if it was serious i think it'd be pretty meh.
Edit: overlord is also fantastic for that reason. trying to live up to how evil his companions think he is, lol.

@@staffyman11and it’s goofy without being unbearable and feeling as if the stakes are non existent, we know the good guys will win but characters do experience genuine tragedy and we are opened up to dynamics outside of that between Cid and his harem. Rose’s arc is genuinely tragic and building Beta up from a poised tactical genius to now the laughing stock of the shadows who has fantasies like a wattpad girl is hilarious and a great development.

In TEIS Season 2 Episode 12 preview, there is one where 'every single Cid persona so far, questioning him'. The 'him' refer to Cid, this acts like a mirror of what everything He has done until now. After that, Cid shows his resolve by saying. Whatever everyone said or ask of him. He will keep on this path of becoming an Eminence in Shadow.
It really shows how much his dream means for him.

The thing with cid taking in every piece of information and acting in the correct way to achive his goal of larping as the eminence inshadow, despite his inner momologue often saying otherwhise is waht both frustrates and fascinates me with this anime. if they would just drop the false monologues and had him monologe teh correct observations that he ALREADY ACTS TOWARDS it would be perfekt.
I enjoy this anime a lot but ever since getting back into persona 5 again I can't stop thinking of how similar shadow looks like to Joker...

This is exactly why I loved shadow of garden. Cid himself and his dedication to his dream. I can relate to him on a personal level. The only difference is, I gave up because I know that this is reality and achieving nuclear immunity (I am only half joking) is just a pipe dream.

Cid is a rather sad character when you think about it.
On paper he has everything, power, looks, and can charm any girl easily.
And yet his obsession with his goal clouds him to everything to the point where it is sad rather then comedic at this point, one would think he would realise that the cult exists and yet he doesn't.Why?
Well this is just headcannon but i think he does he just forgets it.I think he meantioned in a recent volume to a young Aurora that he doesn't remember things as well, this is connected to his philosophy of discarding things that aren't necessary, is knowing that the cult is real important to him?No, real or not he would in one way or another fight them so it doesn't matter if it's real or not, so he disregards that piece of information.
He said that he removes the memories which he thinks is not important for his dream. This also means the topics he talk about with other people.
I think Cid is a complex character if we read his monologues of the very rare moments where Cid is serious. The anime cannot put all of his monologues because of limited time, that's why in anime he looks more goofy than in LN

I both am jealous of and pity Cid.

On the other hand, I pity him because that same admirable dedication makes it impossible for him to truly enjoy the small insignificant moments in life.

I talk of something else. The moments of life where it’s just perfectly nothing important. Be it a particularly good moment at an empty field that just fills you with calm, or some other mundane activity that for whatever reason is enjoyable that time.
Cid’s character is one of escalating dramatics.
Even if he enjoys the insignificant people around him, it won’t be because of them as a person. It’s always the role they play in his play of pretend.
When he is in a calm moment, sure, he can live in that moment, but from what I understand, he doesn’t feel alive in them.
The only time he does feel alive is when he is acting out his fantasy to perfection, so he does that for every moment of his life.
To him each moment is a performance on a grand stage of life, and thus no moment is allowed to be just perfectly nothing important.
But maybe we just interpret his character and life slightly differently. Not like that’s the point of the show. It’s an absurd comedy about a guy who wants almighty power for a chuuni fantasy.

Cid has all the mindsets I need if I ever Isekai while actually having Powers, OP or other. A base value I'm just glad I'll have something that doesn't look OP others but it's Mega OP once I hone and train if not Cultivate it, For Example Chaos, or Plasma or Nuclear energy, or Dark Matter. In short, Cid I.e Shadow has all to what I've always admired in Power Fantasy, if not Low Key type Power Fantasy, Purpose and all.

I somehow both like but also dislike how bland and somewhat straightforward this anime is and how so single minded Shadow is too, like a part of me just wants to scream out that he should try to at least be more empathetic but also another part of me also wants him to stay like that. What I should say is to paraphrase what that guy did on doing a retrospective on Halo Reach regarding Kat's death. Which is that if Kat got a heroic death like every other main character had at that point, ultimately it would not be that memorable since it is just another heroic death but since she died in such a anti-climatic and sudden way, her death was even more memorable and standout. This I feel the fact that Shadow does not do the trope of like for example falling in love or wanting to be like the active good guy in the story makes him even more stand out

I don't usually have anything in common anime protagonists, but with Shadow I do have a couple things in common. I'm not really attached to much in the world, and only care about my dream. I'll get rid of whatever I need to in order to get closer to said dream, I don't care about money, but I seek it out because it's necessary for my dream. Just like Shadow, I could be bought with money unless it violates my principles and my core being (For example, I won't kill, kidnap, or do anything hainous like that. They go against me, but also go against my drem). The biggest difference is that I place value on the lives of people, though I'm not sure if it's because of my dream, or if it's because of who I am. Not just people who can help me with my dream, but people I do not know. A million people dead on the otherside of the world does bother me, but only a little bit, not to get me up in arms, or talking about the injustice unless it would serve to aid my dream. I agree that there is a lot people can learn from Shadow, but shadow is a bit of a sociopath, so it's best you don't idolize him too much, in the end he still will use and throw people away if they aren't his close friends, or useful to his dream. He acts impulsively, and can't really contain himself if he sees a chance to be a background character, or to be shadow, he immediately jumps without much care. Bro is just exceptionally lucky. He also shows no regret for his actions, or the people he has killed.
There we have it, some kid thinking he is shadow a fictional character from a written story. It's cliche that you normally don't self insert in a character but shadow a complete psychopath that has the discipline and self believe that nobody has, because he's a fictional character! You probably have a dream or something idk but who cares, the fact that you post this is evidence enough that you don't share nothing with the main character.
@snoxy4003 I don't at all think I'm like him, and Shadow is NOT a psychopath. Shadow does have feelings, and he says so himself, but they're momentary and fleeting like a sociopath.
I said that this character and I share some things in common, but I never said I was like him. I listed the 2 traits we share in common, that's it. I only care about my dream, and I go through countless nights working towards it. I don't care at all about most things unless it can help me make the dream a reality, but I also said we're different. That I put value in human life and he doesn't, because I'm not like him at all. I merely share a common trait with him that I think is admirable. The dedication one can have while removing themselves from materialism. The example of being bought for money isn't unique to Shadow or myself. Most people can be paid to do things because everyone has something they want to buy.
I'm sorry if I came off as a "he just like me fr" kind of person to Shadow, but I very clearly showed my disdain for several of his traits that I clearly lack. You either didn't read the entire thing or read it and decided everything else didn't matter.
There is only one character in anime that I can somewhat resonant with and swe part od myself in them, and Shadow is NOT said person. The people I take interest in and aspire to be more like are historical figures, but even they have their problems and should be looked up to, but not emulated.
If anything, people should look up to Cid more than Shadow because at least his Cid persona cares slightly about the people around him and is more human. But even then, both use people and toss them aside like they're nothing. That's not someone you should aspire to be like. Leaving a trail of broken people and corpses behind like you're trying to male Machievillie blush.

I’m probably super late but after watching this and oshi no ko id like to think that his wish for magic or “the power to survive a nuclear blast and such” had a certain effect on the system of reincarnation which had given him what he wanted at the “cost” of being in another world which non my opinion adds a bit more to an isekai story than just dead and reborn again but that’s just me

the anime feels like a different version of OPM, still the op mc but with something to make it different from others
I'll be sincere: I only saw the first season, but after the end of it... Me and my boyfriend decided to quit the anime: as writers of future books with a lots of idealistic characters that we are trying to make interesting this was a gur punch for us to watch.
It started as dramatic for us to watch him die and reincarnate into Cid. Then comedy, for how he wanted to be a minor character. Then...
We started to actually see just how much flawed his worldwiew is, and we couldn't believe we actually identified some traits of our characters to be in him, before we actually realized that, for what we saw he seemed to be nothing more than a teen that threw away his previous life in a futile pursuit of strenght, instead of fighting society more for his beliefs, eventually seemingly falling into a kind of "anime guy" who did nothing but using his powers to play god, For me it was just like Titan from Megamind: a case of great powers in the hands of the wrong person, the difference being he worked his ass for them, but that didn't make it better.
Honestly... Yusuke Urameshi, Izuku Midoriya and Ken Kaneki were much more efficient and meaningful as leading figures of their respective animes than Shadow can ever be: they inspired me. All Shadow left me was "if a nerd with no true morality got isekai'd".
This is my opinion, of course: you're free to dislike it or not, but I think it this way.
It is flawed for Society,but it is the best one for Individual to have his trait.and his personality is perfectly suited him in every way possible.

He did say that the genre went from isekai fantasy to soap opera and even broke the 4th wall by saying, he needs to correct the story to bring it back to 6:30PM slot which is the slot given to anime on tv channels he viewed in his original world, I think. Considering both seasons, his earth has the same anime series aired as the real world considering Beta's parody works as Natsume, so it makes sense for the culture to be very close to the current world, which is further proof of him being able to imagine being in an isekai anime.

I dislike how nobody manages to connect the dots between cid and shadow. It's extremely obvious and yet it doesn't happen.
Personally the thing I dislike the most about the anime is Cid's personality. It feels like if S1 Kirito got an extreme power trip.

Not watching the video just wanna say: if I was able to do whatever Cid could do I'd be the exact fucking same, in fact I am worse and I have NOTHING GOOD like Cid. So he's perfectly and clinically sane. But he is a dumbass and I love that, mainly because he didn't know printing paper money would cause an economic crisis (refer to Episode 6, I believe that was when it dawned on him).

Tried watching it.. terrible. Honestly the guy has no dream or anything he might even be detached from reality and actually suffering from a mental disorder. That said he is just another op guy with a harem.
I agree except the terrible part. Man came up with a childish and unrealistic dream but was so determined and detached that he actually wanted it to be real, he trained so hard he became so strong that he managed to beat up armed veterans with crowbars and masters all martial combats. He might just be another op guy with a harem, but he doesn't feel like other isekai mc that has the op isekai skill/gimmick bs.

I was talking about his beginning cause other op isekai mc got gifted their op skill/gimmick to them in the 1st episode while Cid worked hard to be strong (it's not really shown but rather implied, he is literally just a normal dude even after he got isekai'd according to that world's standard)

I can't bring me to like this isekai. Is true that it has his good points. (And waifus) But the MC being trash infects everything else. There's a difference between autistic and idiot. There's a difference between sacrifice everything to achieve your goal and the MC personality...
Cids egocentric stupidity is really what handicaps EiS story. His entire ambition is to be a shadowbroker but he does absolutely nothing to further that goal in the entire story for either life and instead dicks around acting like a child despite living for a culmulative 30 years in total. He gets people close to him in dangerous situations that only seem tame because of plot and the need for the anime to be able to be comsumed mainstream otherwise those kidnappings and shit would be a hell of a lot worse for the victims. The only time i truly like cid is during his fights because his horseshit LARPing doesnt get in the way and instead compliments the action. Its a shame because EiS world has a lot of potential and the shadow war against the cult could have been interesting as a plot premise if cid was more like lelouch or palpatine instead of a 13 year old emo crackhead.
