#bushcraft #knifetest #bushcraftknife
In this episode, we test the Joker Nomad. It is a robust No-Bullshit kind of a knife. From its looks it has more signs of a survival knife but do not underestimate this knife. It performs very well on many bushcraft tasks! Enjoy watching!

    Another copy-cat knife "test" that starts out with batoning. Kephart would have never used his good hunting knife to split wood. That was axe work back then, and still is today..

    Great video of a great knife. I've had it for 8 months. We camp a lot and it's a good companion knife for all my camping tasks. I have the F1 also and its a great knife too, but i prefer the 5 inch blace and the beauty of the Frej. Thanks for all your videos, they're always informative and fun.

    Can someone please explain what's the purpose of a 4mm thick flat grind? It doesn't excel either in food prep because of thickness, or in woodwork because of its blade design that doesn't bite/split. So who is it for? Full tang flat grind looks like marketing to me. Finnish puukko or any other scandi is the way to go. For food prep you don't want more than 2mm thickness otherwise it will split the food instead of slicing. Does it make sense to grab a small axe and a flat grind knife (even some small kitchen ones) just for food prep that's all?

    I bought the 14c28n version the other week. I love the knife and steel but was pretty disappointed with the sheath. I had to add a piece of leather inside to the top so it would slide down into the plastic more easily. The sheath is much too thin leather. Oh well. I'll probably have to make my own sheath for it.

    It’s a very fun knife (I’ve had it for a few years) and it’s true it’s lighter than a hatchet, but we all know that a knife is no match for a good hatchet and you are going to use a lot more energy trying to do the same tasks with the knife than you would with the hatchet 😏

    Fy fan.

    I have this knife and agree completely with your conclusions. It's a really, reall nice knife., but not the best for some bushcraft tasks For a more bushcraft-oriented knife from the same maker, give the Enzo Trapper 115 in Scandi grind a try. I just got one in Elmax steel and it's the sharpest out-of-the-box knife I have ever seen, and I own a couple of LT Wright knives. Maybe I just got a good one, but I can't imagine a sharper knife. It's probably a bit small and thin-of-blade to be a great battoner, but it should excel at everything else. Great video! You should have a million subscribers and are my favorite RUclips channel by far. I'd gladly be a Patreon supporter if you offered it.

      I guess the sleipner carbon actually. Mostly because it has the 4 mm instead of the 3,7 mm. But we are very happy with the 14c28N blade as well. Fits for us as we are living at the shore. We have not tested the Nord in Sleipner but will be fun to do that one day.

    thanks for another entertaining and informative video, what I'm wondering is why have you gone from liking convex to preferring scandi? Is it because of the ease of getting extreme sharpness or something else? interesting to hear as there are so many who go directly in the opposite direction, scanndi first and convex fan later.

  • @runerennemo6614
    @runerennemo6614 24 дня назад

    Why is batoning more important to you than cutting? Let’s say cutting vegetables, filleting a fish or skinning an animal or cutting a rope? Isn’t flat grind really the allrounder? It can baton and make curls, not as good as a scandi, but it can do other things better.

    Very glad I bought this, it’s one of those bags that seems small at first but actually holds a lot, as long as you’re fine with putting your tent/mat ect on the outside you can fit everything you need for a couple days. it doesn’t look silly having stuff attached to the sides like some wider packs do. But If you want everything inside your bag id get a 50-60 litre.

    I have both. Although I enjoy the DBK boys, I like the B1 better. Actually it’s become one of my favorites even compared to “higher end” knives. Only complaint is that I would like the edge to be ground closer to the handle.

    • @westcoastbushcrafters
      @westcoastbushcrafters 29 дней назад

      Great! Must have been a fun comparison for you😄👍 Good point on the grounding / grinding closer to the handle. The knife grip itself is leaving you like a 7 mm grip from the steel( thumb not included, that lays in our case parallel to the steel almost) and than you have the part on the blade which is like 7 mm - 1 cm ? Would be a good optimisation to start the grind at least half of that length. Would you agree? = 5 - 6 mm shorter? Cheers😁👍

It's the knife that the Canadian Special was based on and is one of the most iconic North American outdoor knives.
