Condor Pictus
The Condor Pictus. With it's Celtic looks this knife looks quite mythical. As a Bushcraft Knife we this knife might not end up at the first place. As an outdoor kitchen knife it does! With its 3 mm thin blade this knife is perfect to take with you during camping / outdoor cooking trips. The sheath is of top class and those 3 arrows give it a exclusive character. Unfortunately, the steel is not the best. It did not perform so well on our chopping test. We cannot complain about the looks, only comment about its properties. Are you chopping up a lot of meat? Cooking a lot outdoors? Loving the Celtic theme? This knife must be of your interest.

Condor has proven to be very hit or miss with their designs and their quality control. I have several and the best advice I can give is to buy them from Baryonix Knife Works. The gentleman who owns it, Benjamin does his own quality control check on the knives before he sells them and will also thin and sharpen the edge so you get a knife that comes razor sharp out of the box.

Not a chopper. The only Condor I have is the Otzi neck knife in 1095. Love it, but some of their products are made in 1066. Love your videos! I’m from Northwest Washington. Forests look really similar. Pine, fir and cedar. 🔪🎸

That is the only Condor I have as well - have is as a display piece. I have also heard about issues with Condor QC and heat treats. For me, purchasing one is not worth the risk. I am sure Condor has many satisfied customers, and I mean no disrespect to them. I just dont have time nor patience for that level of uncertainty. Your mileage may vary.
I have two condor knives. The Undertaker and the Selknam. The Undertaker came to me with a tip bent like a fish hook and I had to reprofile the edge to get rid of the tip. The selknam was alright but doesn’t hold an edge very well.

My Condor Discord Machete also arrived with a bent tip. I think it was due to the plastic tip guard. I've heard so many people have the same problem, so I'm starting to suspect that someone is twisting them on purpose at the factory. =D

Can you please review the Mora Wit knife? I dare say it’s the most versatile knife ever. It’s excellent for woodcarving, but also food prep.

@@westcoastbushcraftersawesome, thanks! I’m actually blown away how versatile the Wit is. Normally a scandi is terrible at food prep, but for one reason this knife has the ability to slice (not butchering) an apple in two, which I have never experienced for a scandi before. I think it’s the slim blade, it’s only 2,5 mm thick, combined with a relatively sharp angle on the edge. Small potatoes are no problem. And it’s amazing at carving. Splitting capabilities is off course not the best because of the 2,5 mm spine, but it works. One should carry a small axe/hatchet anyway (I have the Gränsfors bruks mini hatchet, only 300 grams). My favorite knife was the Casström Woodsman. But then I had to bring another knife for food prep. My new favorite knife is the Mora Wit, even though the steel is not premium (normal stainless steel from Mora).

Was the edge damage during chopping due to a soft heat treat? Or too thin at the edge? Or maybe both? Or...?
We both think its mostly from the soft heath treatment. It is not the thickest knife so maybe the thin blade did not help either
@@westcoastbushcrafters Kind of a shame, as it is a rugged looking knife. Seems the design, engineering and manufacture were not fully realized. Your test reminds me to not make a purchase based on what the knife looks like, but how it performs. Thank you!
Keep in mind with condor you get what you pay for, most people understand that it's a knife that's going to need work when it arrives. However, their designs are very good. Their price points are amazing, And their leather sheaths are some of the best in the industry.
They also make some of the best machetes in the world..
I’ve literally bought a couple of Condors JUST for the sheath. They’re great sheaths, and they make great homes for your favorite knives.

Condor has literally near zero quality control... when they range there hrc from 50-55 you know its a fluke what you get either junk or just a ok blade.
Lionsteel is to me a good quality bang for buck company
Condor and lion steel are two completely different fucking price categories.
There's a reason condors are cheap. You get what you pay for but if you're smart, you know how to fix it and make it a very good usable blade. What I enjoy most about condors It's doing something with my Condor that somebody else needs. A $300 super steel Bush craft knife to do.
It is very entertaining to watch Rich people Waste their money on knives that they don't use Because they Have been sold supersteel is better.

It's just modern RUclips camping community, absolutely obsessed with super steel knives That they don't use and can't sharpen.
😄🙈 I have just supersteels, powder metalurgy, CPM-MagnaCut, CPM-S45VN etc. and use it everyday. If you wanna buy cheap knives with horrible steels, it is up to you, but don't be angry on knife collectors and users, who like high-end knives and modern powder metalurgy materials. Just be quiet. 🤫🤭
