    All of your concepts are solid. However Toyota has really different intervals, like it could be 30,000 per transmission oil change.

      Yeah you’re right, they have a HUGE portfolio of vehicles in their lineup, and that’s just the United States, never mind Europe and everywhere else. Every time I go to Canada/Europe/the Caribbean, I see Toyotas I’ve never seen or heard of before. Regarding transmission fluid changes - 25,000- 30,000 miles is my preferred mileage mark, but many will argue that is too soon/too frequent, but I also only prefer drain and fills over flushes and pan removals.

    Great video, very good advice. There are teslas model 3s that have done almost 500k miles with just tires and suspension parts, still original brakes and batteries. I’m not sure if I would do that with ice car, it’s expensive, not just maintenance but also fuel in California is not cheap.

      I’ve heard the opposite on repairs for Tesla, BUT I personally don’t have experience working on Tesla’s. Good to hear there are instances with the EV’s being reliable and inexpensive to own and operate. Someday I’m sure I will own an EV, but I’m not ready to take that plunge right now. Tesla is a company I’ve been told multiple times to buy stock in, and I haven’t pulled the trigger when I should have. I’ve been told this is a company that has so many other revenue sources that their EV segment won’t be the driving factor…instead it’ll be AI, batteries, charging networks, electric strobe, solar roofs, market share. Next time it drops bellow $200 I’m buying in.

    I think a lot of people dump their cars when 2 things happen #1 suspensions starts to wear out and the car feels "Old" or #2 the Engine Mounts wear out and the car starts to vibrate and shimmy. These 2 issues are very very easy to fix in most cars but they can be hard to diagnose. Even high quality technicians can fail to figure out vibrations as they have so little time to do so. But a smart car owner can figure it out.

I guess it depends on how long you plan to keep it and how much driving you plan on doing. Will it be your primary vehicle doing 25,000 miles a year? Or will it be a backup vehicle putting 8,000 miles a year?

    Seems everyone has different experiences with sizing and breaking in. I have some amber harness rangers. My brannock is 10.5 d-e (depending). I wear an 11e in sneakers. I had to go 9.5ee in my iron rangers, a full size and a half lower than my sneakers. I tried 10ee, but they were too long. As far a break in, they were comfortable on my carpet, decent on hard floors. It took a couple of days to really get used to hard floors with them; never had any real pain, just hardish feeling soles for a bit. I do wear boots for a living, and stand for up to 13 hours a day, so maybe my feet are a little more accustomed to boots/pain/standing. Who knows.

    Hi! In the video you said that you used 5w30 but the cap recommends 0w20. I've seen other videos where people have said that the 2GR-FE did not change internally after Toyota started to recommend 0w20. Does this mean we can still use 5w30 with no risks of engine wear or other repercussions?

    • @doublebase6509
      @doublebase6509 4 дня назад

      I wouldn’t recommend anyone to do anything against the owners manual, but essentially yes, there doesn’t appear to be many internal changes to the 2GRFE in those years, and I have been running 5W30 for 50,000 miles now with oil analysis tests showing virtually no difference in wear (and so have many other people). But I will say that the 0W20 seemed to test out just as well in oil analysis too. I made the switch at higher mileage figuring a slight increase in viscosity and high temperature high shear, oil would help.

    • @doublebase6509
      @doublebase6509 4 дня назад

      I’d worry about the hybrid battery going if I’m trying to reach 500,000 miles. Then again Toyota does make some of the best, if not THE BEST, hybrids on the market. I’m averaging 27.5 mpg with the V6 in a large car…with plenty of useful power and acceleration, but you probably are right…the hybrid Toyota might be a better choice.

    • @aliendroneservices6621
      @aliendroneservices6621 4 дня назад

      @@doublebase6509 OEM hybrid batteries don't cost that much. The median working-age American spends around $10k a year to drive. $4k for a hybrid battery replacement ($400 per year, if done every 10 years) is chump-change compared to that. And hybrid batteries can last far longer than 10 years with proper care and maintenance (need to keep it cool, which means keeping the fan clean). Fuel-cost is not the only reason to go hybrid. Reliability is my #1 reason. You have a ton of maintenance items in your V6 Camry which simply don't exist in my 2016 Prius c. A caveat is that my car has two coolant loops (the 2nd one is for the inverter). But my car has no belts. All accessories are electric, including the AC, power steering, and power brakes. There's no alternator. Regen braking means my brakes last forever. The list goes on and on. Toyota Hybrid is the only sane choice today for a half-million-mile vehicle investment.

      A ton of maintenance on a V6 Toyota Avalon/Camry? Two oil changes per year, a transmission service every 50,000 miles and a coolant change the first 100,000 miles. I bought an 89 camry for 575 at auction in LA. 296k. The first owners must have maintained it. The last owners did not. It had no installed starter when i got it. Burned out one in trunk. Installed a new one. Turn signal didnt work on left, made a loud noise. Got that whole assembly thing at the junkyard and fixed that. Almost of the bulbs were burned somehow. Replaced those. AC i havent figured out yet. No air at vent. I have the evaporator removed. Windows werent working. Wasnt motors or switches and im not great with a multimeter. So i got 4 manual regulators off a base model 89 and the door panels and took a hodge podge of pieces to nake these super cool looking two tone door panels out of stock parts. Im delivering amazon packages in this car. I also like high mileage cars and take pride in having the oldest car and possibly the highest mileage car at most warehouses. Oh yeah, i installed a rack and pinion cause the old one wasnt holding fluid. Im at 304k. Pulled the cover today when i started the tear down for the timing belt injectors and other atuff. Cam lobes are discolored. Ive done two oil changes so far and ran a flush both tines. But I liked having a catch can. Good idea to baby the turbo too.

    Start with a Honda or a Toyota. That’s the key.

    For me I want to go to 500k but I also like to replace things on the car before it goes out because I take long drives to the mountains, etc and I don't want to experience a problem during a trip. I'd rather deal with it at home. Anything made in Japan I trust (Mazda, Toyota)

      Yeah, mountain driving is interesting, isn’t it? A lot of strain on the transmission going up and down. I’ve watched my tranny temp just climb and climb going up smaller mountain roads in the summer. My brake rotors have been ruined going down some mountain roads before too. Weather has also turned on a dime on me in winter…from bright and sunny to a complete white out in a matter of minutes, dumping three inches of blinding snow on the ground. That was scary. Drove through a few hail storms before too (had to pull over). Seen a few horrific deaths too over the years…cars going over cliffs, lot of motorcycle fatalities. I would want my vehicle to be in very good condition if I were driving mountain roads.

    Great video... I appreciate the rundown. What about manual transmission vehicle (i have sedan car and lite 4x4) ? The owners manual says change preictally-never, but I don't believe that.

      I’d change it, no harm can come from changing it and keeping up with it. Albeit probably less maintenance frequency than an automatic, but that wouldn’t stop me from even over maintaining it. It’s pretty a Inexpensive fluid.

    You can get a half size up and put insoles in them and they are way more comfortable

    • @doublebase6509
      @doublebase6509 7 дней назад

      Yeah I just won’t have any room in the toe box area to add an insole in virtually any size with these things. But I get what you’re saying and I’m sure it works for some people. The boots do feel a lot better now than before - I just haven’t worn them much of lately because of summer - but as soon as fall rolls around I’ll have these on a lot.

    I work for a large organization, and we have a lot of 4x4 trucks, fleet vehicles. A chevy truck I was driving one day with the 5.3 had a low oil warning come on and I took it to our garage to get some oil for it. The truck ended up being more than 2 quarts low, the mechanic in our garage that put more oil in it told me he had recently did his certification training from GM. They told him at his training, and these were guys from GM he told me, to NOT to use 0w-20, but to use 5w30 because the engines will often consume the lighter weight oil. This mechanic told me that all the guys in the garage pretty much stopped using 0w-20 in many of the trucks because the engines don't seem to do as well. We have about 50 of the "Big three" domestic made trucks at our location. It would seem most of the engines in use today were originally engineered to run on 5w-30. These lighter oils are meant to save a few pennies on gas more than anything.

      Agree, and depending on what year Chevy truck you have with that 5.3, that will have displacement on demand or AFM, which have been known for oil consumption (among other things). I would run the 5W30 in those without a second thought…might help a little bit, not much but a bit. I’d be more concerned with the transmissions in those things. Torque converters specifically. They just don’t seem to make it much further than 120,000 miles paired with that 5.3 AFM. Too much shifting going on when it drops down to 4 cylinders. I owned one in 2018…didn’t have great luck with it, and a I babied that thing while maintaining it meticulously

    I know somebody that has 60K miles on his vehicle & it is ten year old. He hasn’t changed his antifreeze yet. I think it should have been changed three times by now. With antifreeze change interval it is not just miles. It is time to.

      Yeah I agree, time matters too. Some of the new coolants supposedly can go up to ten years, but that seems excessive to me.

      Yeah, honestly from the lab reports I think the 0W20 is fine for typical driving conditions in these things. I prefer the 5W30 but that’s just me.

    I am torn on what to do with my Transmission, GM 10L80 2021 Suburban with 40K miles..pan drop is labor expensive cause exhaust has to be moved. flush is reasonable at about $400 but the dealer uses BG flushes and IDK if I want that.

    • @doublebase6509
      @doublebase6509 9 дней назад

      I’m trying to remember if I’ve done a pan on a suburban…I know I’ve done them on the Silverados…and the exhaust removal is no big deal, it’s just a disconnect so you can squeeze the pan out of there. On some you don’t even have to disconnect the exhaust, just a tranny mount and a pry bar. What I would do is take it somewhere else and get the exchange done without the BG flush. And make a point to mention/demand that you want OE GM fluid, NOT a universal fluid with an additive. That’s sometimes the problem with places that use those transmission flush machines - they only want to use one universal fluid, with an additive, and then sell you a cleaner additive to go with it. To just get someone to hook a machine up and use factory fluid can take some research and effort. I have a video on tranny services, check it out, I talk about the benefits and drawbacks of those machines.
