Just an update on these things, these are damn GOOD BOOTS. Wow! They look good, they feel good, and they perform good ALL DAY. I can’t believe they are able to still look good after all I’m putting them through. The waterproofing is absolutely SPOT ON AMAZING. I kept saying initially that these are insulated, they are NOT insulated, they are waterproof with a lining and moisture wicking barrier. They can be warm but they don’t feel hot/non breathable.

Purchased these about 3 weeks ago and couldn’t be happier. I’m a industrial/commercial plumber 25+yrs. And Thorogoods are my clear #1 choice over the yrs. Comfort and durability unreal!

I’ve been swamping these things out for a few weeks now, and haven’t had a drop of water in them yet! Good looking boot too. These are going to get some heavy use over the next year (auto tech). Ill use them for some winter hiking/mountain biking too.

Ive had mine for a year , the uppers collapse and is pinching my ankle. They were the perfect boot for about a year. Id say never condition the uppers , it might make them last a little longer.

For the speed hooks, take a pair of needlenose and pinch them a bit

I snagged up a couple pairs of thorogoods from their outlet store in Merrill, i live about 20 minutes away and its nice that every now and again I can snag a nice pair of boots I can beat up a bit. Most pairs are less than $100 and have comparable QC to what gets sent to amazon. I swap the laces out immediately, they have no grit, i agree. I do wish they sold factory firsts direct to consumer and not through Amazon or a local shoe store, I'd like to just be able to drive to the factory and buy a brand new pair, but oh well.

True story, I returned the boots today. Showed a few people that crease inside the boot, and everyone suggested I return them. Shoe store took them back, no problem. I replaced them with the exact same boots. Not too thrilled with the welt on the new pair, might do a quick video on them, not sure. But I’m going to hammer these things starting tomorrow

The colonoscopy joke was killer, dude.

Couple of things missing from the video...these are not steel toe boots. For treatment with these things I’m planning on using Red Wing boot cream (combination of neets foot oil and conditioners). I don’t think I’ll need anything for actual water proofing (bees wax/Sno-Seal), just something to keep the boots clean and conditioned once in a while. I may saddle soap them after 3 months.

i had to cut the tongue because it was driving me crazy, other than that the boot is so comfortable

I haven’t had any issues with the tongue yet, but I did have a big issue with the tongues on my Carolina moc toes. I did cut the gusset on the tongue on those…didn’t help…the tongue still twists really bad and goes into my foot. But the Thorogoods I’m finding are a little harder on the foot than I usually get with a traditional Thorogood with the extra poron they put in their regular boot. I changed the insole out and it helps.

When breaking them in, don’t tighten the laces too tight until the leather softens up. I have that same problem and I like my laces tight but I’m easily breaking them in and easily tighten them.

These are beautiful boots and I really want to get a pair of these but I'm gonna see how they hold up to "hammering" away. About the outsoles... My Duraderos are totally full of milling oil and hydraulic oil after three months! I'm gonna try to hit them with some zep degreaser and maybe some comet when I bring them home for cleaning and conditioning sometime soon.

I went with the Thorogoods because they offer a waterproof/insulated option, otherwise I would have went with another Duradero. But yeah, any of these type of outsoles get dirty very quickly. My Carolinas were almost black after a week. Try this, get a toothbrush, add some water and dish soap into a solution (a few drops of bleach), carefully scrub the sides of the outsole, THEN get a spoon, press the spoon against the side of the outside and scrape the hard edge of the spoon on the side of the soles slowly. The water and stains will be pressed out. It does work, but it takes some work. Hope that helps.

Can you wear these for casual wear instead for work use?

    • @doublebase6509
      @doublebase6509  6 месяцев назад +1

Depends. I mean, yeah I’ve worn them casually, BUT these things are bulky for casual use, in my opinion. They’re just a big toe box type of boot, which is great for work. Plus they are water proofed lined, which adds a little more size to them. If you’re thinking more of a casual boot, I’d try Thorogoods more traditional moc toe boot (unlined). Or a heritage Red Wing offering.

    Are these boots steel toe?

The ones I bought are not steel
Toe, but they do have a steel toe option.

They claim to be waterproof but they are not. Put them in 3 inches of water for about 10 minutes and you’ll find out.

I have, they seem ok to me. I know a lot of boots with this waterproof liner (essentially a breathable plastic bag), can be damaged during the assembly of the boot. I guess I got lucky with mine. Sorry about yours.
