Abandoned Blackwater Shooting Lodge | Exploring The Cabrach
The hunting lodge was built in the late 1700s for the Duke of Richmond and Gordon. It was used until the 1960s as a seasonal shooting lodge, but it fell into disuse. It's not hard to imagine how difficult and costly a place it was to upkeep. It's a shame though, it's a lovely building in a stunning little spot.
n.b. I didn't manage to escape my problems, but I did forget about them for several hours!!!

Old stones and a lochside lunch! | Culsh Earth House | Blue Cairn Stone Circle | Pronie Loch
Просмотров 154День назад
Blue cairn stone circle has been on my list for a while and I'm not sure what took me so long to get out here! The walk out to it isn't the most inspiring but it's short and the stones are easy to find. There seems to be just the large recumbent remaining and it doesn't seem (to me!) like it's in it's original position. There is a large cairn(?) just next to the stone but I couldn't find any in...
My 30 days wild
Просмотров 4914 дней назад
Every June the Wildlife Trust runs an initiative called '30 days wild' which encourages people to do something 'wild' every day in June. This is obviously super open to interpretation and the Wildlife Trust provides lots of suggestions. In general, it pushes me to get outside on days when I don't really feel like it and probably wouldn't have otherwise. Every year is tricky, but this year was a...
Come puffin-spotting with me at RSPB Fowlsheugh in Aberdeenshire
Просмотров 12821 день назад
Every year I like to come to RSPB Fowlsheugh near Stonehaven to see the auks. My favourites are the razorbills...or the bridled guillemots...I'm not quite sure! It's always exciting to spot the few puffins that hide out on the cliffs too. This year we caught sight of a pod dolphins (Bottlenose I think) and a great auk. Both were an excellent surprise. Oh and I did stay dry! It was a rare win fo...

My ME is still playing up so I really wanted a 'short' and fairly flat walk that would still allow me to get out in nature and discover something new. Short weekend wander around Pitfour Lake | Aberdeenshire | Scotland

I'm still struggling a bit with my ME relapse, but it's also really important for my mental health to try and get outside on the weekend if I can. Tap o' Noth is the second highest hillfort in Scotland (bested only by Mither Tap of Bennachie) and it's main feature is the vitrified wall which encloses the hillfort area. I have owned a coyote 3 for 5 years, it's a very good tent. The pole have an in-built curvature that needs to be considered when pitching. They may be hard to clip in but that goes to create tightness hence stability. Other than that, I agree on a few design features that could be improved.

Shame the view at 3 mins 44 secs will soon be vandalised. The route proposed for the 400kv pylons runs within a few hundred metres of the hill fort and will dissect that landscape. It’s odd how the priority to tackle climate change makes any decision justifiable. In my mind we should do it properly and bury the cables to avoid destruction to the area but SSEN say it’s too expensive. It would add a few pounds to household bills so better to industrialise this landscape they think.
