Democracy is, by design, inefficient. Checks and balances mean overlap, and protection of democratic freedoms takes a lot of effort. Von Schleicher, while a shrewd political player, is first and foremost a military man. He's seized the opportunity of an empire utterly unprepared for war, and used the existential threat to unify the country. However, democracy has fallen by the wayside, mostly. Which doesn't concern him or his goals, but the German people will have to ask themselves if, in the end, it was all worth it.

Counter-argument: "Luftstreitkräfte" (lit air force) was the term for German aviation in WW1, with Versailles, this organisation was no more. Obviously different here, due to the diverging timeline. However, von Schleicher's path includes establishing the Wehrmacht, which is very much a term from the OG timeline 30s period, and the official term for the Wehrmacht's air wing was "Luftwaffe". On the account that it's a Nazi/tainted expression, "Wehrmacht" is no longer in use today in Germany, but "Luftwaffe" is very much still the name of the modern German airforce.

Since MPs require a larger cavalry division, and I'm looking at designing a mechanised infantry division as well, I might look into the spirit that makes those types free. I _think_ it applies to mech as well as cav, since they're the same type, but have to check.

It certainly diverted some forces. Unfortunately, the French were not able to complete the conquest of Iberia, so we'll have to once again face the Entente there, it seems.

I pulled the assault divisions off for the assault on Lyon, but the first Army's frontline hadn't extended all the way across the new territory, leaving a gap in the flanks. Happens at times, frontline management can be a little tedious if you've got specific groups and individual tactical goals, rather than just a field marshal order with "push along the line" and let the game handle it. I usually edit out the parts where I'm adjusting the lines, I did catch that one a few minutes after, I think

von Bock's divisions are mostly colonial infantry, not the greatest when it comes to assault operations. India will be dealt with in due time, Persia is an area the Ottomans should be able to handle by themselves, but their positions in Western Africa are pretty precarious, and the Entente will probably end up holding at least parts of Spain.

@StoriesandStrategieswithTerry the Persians seemed to be in a tight spot. Even if they are not the best divisions I think they would be more useful there or maybe as a reserve force in the Caucasus. The Ottomans also had some success in Central Asia, it seems to be lightly defended (not sure if the AI would send elite divisions there). Right now I think anything is better than moving them around Africa. Hell they could even garrison Indochina and free up your veterans.

The idea of a long-range raider / raider-hunter kind of emerged when I was going into the design, from the effective use of British cruiser raiding forces. What I had in mind originally was a new battlegroup core, but then by the time those will finish, we will likely have dealt with the IJN, and maybe USN as well. Definitely agree on the need for lighter armour.

Ah, I wasn't aware that volunteer divisions didn't add to the limit. Still, I'll probably leave them to their own devices, since it makes for better stories, like the Ukrainians running suicidal head-on attacks into Russian defences, or the German East Asian troops unable to put down the Indochina insurrection for years

Good point, she should be ok with thinner armour for the heavy raider role. Then again, Germans are a bit infamous for sticking their battlecruisers in the main line... 😅

They're not just there for PNG, but the core of a possible invasion force against Australia. Objectives, in the event of a war with the Entente, are to take Port Moresby, and then expand a beachhead in Brisbane.

Well it could also be that because they joined over Hawaii and not being part of the international they simply don’t have good coordination with them. The French and the British are fighting over old world grudges as much an ideology while the CSA’s ambitions are in the pacific seeking their de jure claims. Their goals are simply not aligned as such the CSA likely feels no rush to help them or even coordinate with them.

That said it’s strange they’d declare war on Germany over Hawaii but not on Canada over New-England.

That's how I see it as well. The initially Syndicalist CSA under Reed have, post civil war, very much turned towards totalism, and are, as such, ideologically opposed to the Syndicalist-led Internationale. The civil war has been going on for a very long time (to a degree due to our interventions), and the USAS aren't in any shape to fight just yet. The key goal of foreign policy is to keep your enemies divided...

I do like to keep things tidy - it's honestly the only way to manage the large number of units and weapon systems. I'm still planning on making a short series of tutorial-style navy videos, just haven't had the time yet :)

Without giving too much away in terms of spoilers, I am playing this on normal difficulty, since I've been told before how hard this mod is. Limiting the spread of hostile alliances through proxy wars early on certainly has helped, together with an overall defensive stance based on entrenchment-stacking, although Russia might have a suprise or two

Yes, the larger battles in central Europe are mostly fought by the armoured spearheads, with regular infantry moving up behind, but the special forces expeditions is where the really grueling fighting occurs, from landing on the icy coast in Norway to the jungles of central Asia

Oh, I don't trust the Canadians to uphold the non-aggression pact, I've seen Austria-Hungary calling that off early on in the game, and they've had tank divisions on our borders ever since. We'll see what they come up with. But there will be some strategic realignment into the Pacific anyway, since the war on the Western front is going to wrap up within the year, and the Eastern front is already relatively well staffed, so there will be troops available.

We'll see if RUclips lets me get away with this, but I'll definitely try. Didn't know this one, thanks! As a side note, avoiding copyright issues, even with old marching music, is an absolute pain (and there's not much around that's free to use). I'm looking at either licensing, but most of the bulk license options are around pop music, or getting AI to create custom music, which I've had some promising early results with.

They only join under three conditions, France moves into southern Germany, Russia capitulates Ukraine, or the Third Internationale take too much of Italy. Only one of these could realistically happen.

Yeah, Austria seems to just observe at this point, hoping that Germany might be sufficiently weakened. What they might end up seeing though is a united, militarized and certainly nationalist Empire under a not-too-bright, but ambitious Kaiser
