Stevens Pass | Kehr's Chair [New 2023]
Kehr's Chair started as a Riblet center-pole double known as Big Chief, named after the mountain it partially ascends. It was installed in 1964, replacing a ropetow, and became the fourth chairlift at Stevens Pass. The lift remained largely unmodified throughout its lifespan, until summer of 2021. Towers 11-16 received custom lifting frames that summer, leading up to its replacement. In 2023, Kehr's Chair was removed, leaving Seventh Heaven as the last original lift installation, and the last lift without safety bars on the mountain.
Kehr's Chair is a Skytrac quad chair. The lift uses all standard Skytrac parts, except for the sheaves, which are standard Leitner-Poma sheaves. The lift is a...

Mt. Hood Ski Bowl | Platter Tow
Просмотров 1604 месяца назад
This lift was installed in 2001, replacing a ropetow. The lift is a Borer platter tow, and serves a small slope used for racing (as seen in this video). It is required to ride this lift in order to access the Cascade chair from the base of the Multorpor chair, without hiking uphill Recorded on February 24th, 2024 GoPro Hero 11 Black, 4k, 30 fps, Horizon Leveling
Mt. Hood Ski Bowl | Upper Bowl
Просмотров 3434 месяца назад
This lift was originally installed in 1949, where it ran to the top of the Canyon trail. In 1975, the lift was reinstalled on a new alignment, reusing the lattice towers from the original lift, and using new equipment for the rest of the lift. The rest of the equipment, including one tower and both terminals, were relocated to become the Cascade lift, installed the same year as Upper Bowl. Uppe...

Mt. Hood Ski Bowl | Cascade
Просмотров 3064 месяца назад
Multorpor Mountain was originally its own ski area, and served many winter activities besides ordinary downhill skiing, including ski racing. It was known as Jump Hill, and Cascade Ski Club was the one to host such competitions. The first Ropetow was built on the hill in 1938, running up the current Raceway slope. In 1964, Multorpor Mountain and Skibowl Peak sides of the resort were combined, a...
Mt. Hood Ski Bowl | Lower Bowl

Lower Bowl was originally installed in 1946, a single chair that was manufactured in-house. The lift was replaced in 1966 with a new Riblet double chair, on a completely new alignment to more easily access the newer Multorpor chair. In 1998, the new lift was shortened, and given a new drive terminal. Lower Bowl is a 1966 Riblet center-pole double chair. It is the main access out of the Skibowl ...
Sehome Hill Ski Down

This one is a special video that I wouldn't normally upload. After a weeklong cold spell of temps down to 4º F, a snowstorm swept through northwestern Washington's lowlands. Over half a foot of snow was dumped down in the river valleys, as far south as Mt. Vernon. In Bellingham, Sehome Hill Arboretum sits on a small foothill, as the name suggests. During the snowstorm, the access road was close...
Mt. Baker | Gunner's Bowl and The Canyon (Ski Down)

Here is a full POV of skiing Gunner's Bowl and The Canyon. The route starts from a short uphill hike from the top of Chair 6 and Chair 1, and leads all the way to the base of Chairs 4, 5, and 6. This an experts only route, however much of the terrain is not very steep. Seen in this video is the easiest way down Gunnar's Bowl. Because it's less steep, the challenge of The Canyon section lies mor...
Mt. Baker | Chair 8

Chair 7 replaced a Riblet quad that was installed in 1990. This lift was installed in 2017, the first lift on the mountain by Skytrac, and the newest lift at Mt. Baker. It is also the only lift to replace anything other than a double chair at the resort. Recorded on January 15th, 2024 Insta360 X3
Mt. Baker | Chair 6

Chair 6 replaced a 1976 Riblet double known as Sticky Wicket. This lift is a Doppelmayr CTEC quad chair, installed in 2004. It also has the longest vertical rise of any lift at Mt. Baker ski area. Like Chair 1 and Chair 8, this lift also still does not feature safety bars, a rare omission especially on quad chairs. This lift replaced two parallel double chairs, both of the same name Shuksan Arm, one a 1968 Murray-Latta double, and the other a 1974 Riblet center-pole double. Chair 5 was installed in 2002, the first of four Doppelmayr CTEC quad chairs to be installed at Mt. Baker. 😊 to the 🟢 detachable ski lifts 😊
Looks like a run I want to do in the future
like 5 years ago, it ran a LOT faster than this, this is just sad to see
I assume the new lift has 19 towers.
it ran this slow on me last year but then my last trip of the season here it was running at a good pace
I’ve ridden this lift and it is a QUICK little riblet
I'm glad they really care about the family experience.
There should be more thumbs-up on and about this video, atleast 500 thumbs-up and it being a DEEP POWDER DAY,and don't forget to subscribe.
is this actually the steepest chairlift?
How easy is it to fall off and how bad do you get hurt if you do
remembering the time i came here 45 seconds after the video uploaded
First of all,, Chair 6 has got to be the same noisest çhair lift I've ever heard of, don't tell me that that's the Electric motor,if so get a new one.I know AC motors don't sound that way and it's not the gear box.1/4 th of the way up I could still hear that high pitch noise, that's pretty bad.Who built that chair.2nd, what's the deal with the tower, heavy side, before you get to the tower you can hear, feel the shives boucing and then the chair (grip) bouces pretty bad on top of the shives, all the other shives, towers are fine.
I'm at home on my phone and this short video pop's up and their talking about Double Diamond Run and maybe Upper and lower I -5 run but they recorded THE BEST CHAIR ON THE MOUNTAIN, DOUBLE DIAMOND CHAIR,C-9,9-DRIVE.31 TOWER'S,151 TRIPLE CHAIR'S, 833 SHIVES,11/2" HAUL ROPE, LENGTH OF HAUL ROPE,(my guess) 4,083 FEET LONG AND MOVE'S 450 PER MINUTE,MOTOR ROOM : AUX DETROIT DIESEL V8.
One Of My Favorite At Whistler….Just Did It In March This Year….For Some reason had a lot of Moguls this time, maybe because they got some snow that week.
Can't wait to check this out when I visit in early June.
Nice, you planning on skiing here?
@@sorenjones Yup
As of April 13, 2024, the Jersey Cream Express high speed quad is now labeled as "removed".
That's the MOST HARDWARE I've ever seen in my life for a Double Chair.
Really great runs on a DEEP POWDER DAY, Bobby, Nancy and Solitude.
7th Heaven Chair,C-3,31 chair's,Riblet (tramway) Chairlift,4 cylinder Perkins Diesel Aux Engine,Last of the Riblet Chairlift at Steven's Pass Washington State.400 feet per minute.
I've only seen one season in all the year's I've worked at Steven's Pass where skiers and snowboarders ski and ride the Chairline and that was the season of 98-99, that's how deep it was,
WHY?
That was fun!
The old Riblet Big Chief chair was faster. Bigger Chief? About a minute slower based on SkiTracks data of the old lift vs the new lift.
From what i recall, the two T-Bars were not beside each other in the opening season. One was in the alpine area, but the other was in the valley area, along side the Gondola. For years you could still see the track of where the lift used to run. Very quickly, Garabaldi Lifts had a change of heart and relocated the T-base from the valley to operate along side the one in the alpine. The difference initial installation is why the liftlines for the two T-bars were different lengths
I liked the old double. This new lift is slower and looks kind of ugly (I like older lifts)
This looks SO much slower than the old chair... That is kind of unfortunate.
The unfortunate effect of going from double to quad. The more people per chair, the lower the max line speed, putting Kehr's now at 450 fpm. As for why it was running slow in this recording, I'm not sure.
@@sorenjones At least they don't run it at 3 (Doppy slow speed) 24/7 like Daisy... that lift is painful. This looks slightly better. It is unfortunate though.... ;(
The sheaves are standard Leitner Poma sheaves installed in skytrac frames, they have been offering this setup since 2019.
Right, it appears my lack of deeper research has led to false narratives. The description has been changed, thanks for the info.
Can't wait to ride my 1st Skytrac lifts when Bogus gets theirs this summer.
The install of those two lifts happens 10 years after Rampart (my first Skytrac) was installed in 2014.
the Excalibur gondola is the missing link that connects and makes it soo easy to cross each mountain , and after 4pm when lifts close... so easy and effective.....most important/ awesome lift at the resort imo.
In early February 2021 during one of my visits actually, Peak 5 unexpectedly broke down in a catastrophic way that put it offline for over a week I think it had to do something with the bull wheel at the bottom. in the middle of that month, PC finally reopened Peak 5, albeit it still runs slower to this day even 3 years later.
That's what happened, I see. I definitely got there after it broke down, must've been running for only a week or two when I made this recording.
You made it down hehe. Not terribly pretty, but definitely not enough snow on it yet either. Work on chaining your turns up more to keep fluid. Right now each turn is becoming a stop. Avoid pulling your shoulder. Point 'em down ❤.
For some reason, every video of this lift I watch, the lift always seems to be one of the more crowded lift's on the mountain. My guess is because it's a very family-friendly area of the mountain.
The Park City side is much more family friendly, since that's where most of the upper mountain green runs are. This lift, on the other hand, serves zero green runs, and that's the same for most other lifts at The Canyons. The reason this lift is so crowded is because it's the first lift people see at a major chokepoint on the mountain. Many people coming from the more crowded Tombstone Express, Orange Bubble Express, and Red Pine Gondola trying to go north or south end up at this lift, and end up riding it. This lift is not required to ride in any direction, and does not help you at all when traveling to Tombstone, but the reality is, most people don't know that, and they just follow the crowd. This lift is also just popular for its glade skiing.
where is the line?
What do you mean by that?
@@sorenjones there's no line for the lift and every time I've been there that chair lift
❤
bro didn't even ride down💀
How do you tell the difference between the grips? And what is the difference between AG and DT grips?
If you look at Emerald 6 Express or Harmony 6 Express, you'll notice the grips do not have large coil springs on them. In contrast, you may notice this lift does have coil springs. Emerald and Harmony use DT grips, where the T stands for torsion, the type of force used to close the grip around the cable. This torsion force comes from that large tube you see at the bottom of the grip. While it's not in the name, this lift's AG grips (short for Agamatic, the company that makes them) uses those large blue coil springs to hold the grip jaw closed. The different types of force used are basically the only difference between DT and AG grips, and every other part of them are pretty much the same.
@@sorenjones Ohhhhhhh. Okay gotcha! That’s really interesting to know. Thanks a bunch! I love researching ski lifts on my own time! I look forward to getting to know more
But what about for an older lift such as Great Western Express at Brighton Resort in Utah? What kind of grip would that be?
@@speedyboi2576 Great Western Express uses Garaventa AK-4 grips, and the lift is built by Garaventa CTEC. There are many different grips used on older lifts, since there wasn't as much of a monopoly of high-speed lifts in North America like there is today (Leitner-Poma and Doppelmayr make up basically the entire NA market for high-speed lifts today).
@@sorenjones Gotcha. Thank you this really helps! I'm curious as to how you know so much about ski lifts though. I assume you either research all this on your own time or you work for a lift company such as Doppelmayr or Leitner-Poma.
I was there on new year's eve and it was ok
That was sick, well done!
My god brother, are you my cousin? haha that was smooth as hell all the way down
Seeing those clouds is sick though!
It's been a few years since I've taken that ride, thanks for bringing me along.
ruclips.net/video/sShOH92J-v4/видео.html
You get off the chair and go down the ramp and then a left turn to go down m s but dumb more -ons are sitting right in the way so what you do is just plow through them and hopefully knock them out of the way, Double Black Diamond Chair Ha !
relax
amazing upload😊
Thank you!
Sheeeesh, as an East coaster the biggest mtn I’ve skied by far is Tremblant and only twice…this, apparently steepest lift in the country, not having a bar is wild to to me lol
Unfortunately, it's the last lift without safety bars at Stevens, Vail Resorts decimated the others (old Brooks, old Daisy, old Kehr's, Double Diamond/Southern Cross, and Tye Mill). Best advice, just hang on the center pole and don't fall off. The ride's only 2 minutes, so it's not like you're in danger for a long time.
Very prone to motion sickness.. is it a bad idea for me to go?😢
I'd say there isn't much to worry about. If you can survive the gondola ride up to it, Peak 2 Peak isn't much worse. The lift is very well maintained, and has the smoothest ride of any lift at Whistler-Blackcomb.
Poor ski lol
Yep
Was the old bottom terminal still there?
Nope.
This lift hurt me
