I wouldn't. New valves are fairly inexpensive. I just bought a stock set for my Honda Civic and they were $47 for the full set. Keep up the good work.

Depends on if the stem ride area is good and the seat can be cut again without pitting. Clean in white vinegar and measure the stem first.

I had to remove the fan and the belt two separate times because I didn’t tighten some of the bolts on the water pump enough. It was a funny little learning process. I now know how to change a water pump on a 1982 Isuzu Pickup Truck.

Wix filters are junk. If you’re gonna buy Mobil oil go ahead and get a good oil filter.

Instead of pouring the oil using the handle, grab it by the sides and pour out with the fat side facing down. You'll have more control and have less spills. Don't forget to grab a 12pk case of parts cleaner to clean up 👍

Hint! Normally you drain the oil from a motor you wanna take apart.

I bought an identical bike new in the spring of '81 and immediately put a set of case saver bars and a WindJammer fairing on it. Neat project.

I’m guessing a scrambler! Great bike. I’ve always had an interest in customizing one. There is a TON of aftermarket for those and having the 81 I think is a better starting point. The 88 had a funny shaped tank. I have a friend that is very into CB’s and has 2 fully restored. That factory exhaust may be worth something if it’s in any kind of shape. A lot of the factory exhaust ended up scrapped for aftermarket. Now people restoring is looking for factory. Do some research.

Glad to see you’re making a comeback! Awesome. I see a 750 adventure bike. Mostly street with dirt capability’s. Keep us up to speed as it progresses.

Sounds like a lot of work, good luck, learn a lot, take photos and I would say have fun, but it is a far way away before that happens. I bought a 4 wheeler 25 years ago..... did not turn out well. I did not take photos!

only thing i can offer is a place to stay while on the road. Norfolk, VA. I end all my videos with "embrace the suck". i have been embracing the suck for the last three years but see some direction in 2024. glad your mom and you are well as you woke today and get to live this crazy life as we only get one. as for the bike, that is personal. what is the perfect bike? its the one your on. i do have two, so that is hard to answer. it all depends on what weather and what distance on tarmac i am doing. if only going to own one?........... i have not owned or ridden one, but i would pick KLR. been around for ages and big support around the north america. parts are plenty and well respected. not sure if i am buying a honda trail 125 next or a KLR. but i will have both added to my top 5 bikes to own. have the Concours that is my long distance and winter bike, and the W800 cafe for my above 50 degrees and around town. i want the trail 125 for beach cruising around town fun, and KLR for when i move to Tennessee next year, or at least hope. still working on healing from injury last year with herniated L3 disk and severe impingement on L3 nerve to Left quad strength. enjoy life. see you back on the road.

Wow. Absolutely sucks. Ive been there too. Like you said it’s a good opportunity to do it the way you want. Personally keep it simple. Everyone thinks you need rides modes and other bells and whistles. DRZ is a great ride . My son and daughter in law each have one. I ride a KLR. Both are good back road bikes on and off the pavement. Waiting patiently to see what you choose.

That SUCKS. Makes me angry just hearing about it. This may sound crazy, but sometimes it can be a rebirth. What I mean by that is my cousin's house caught fire and almost burned everything. Thank goodness it is a brick house. Fortunately his insurance covered the entire thing and he pretty much has a new home now because of the remodel. So thru the chaos good things can happen. Btw have you thought about buying a Ducati scrambler desert sled?
