Wow. Absolutely sucks. Ive been there too. Like you said it’s a good opportunity to do it the way you want. Personally keep it simple. Everyone thinks you need rides modes and other bells and whistles. DRZ is a great ride . My son and daughter in law each have one. I ride a KLR. Both are good back road bikes on and off the pavement. Waiting patiently to see what you choose.

That SUCKS. Makes me angry just hearing about it. This may sound crazy, but sometimes it can be a rebirth. What I mean by that is my cousin's house caught fire and almost burned everything. Thank goodness it is a brick house. Fortunately his insurance covered the entire thing and he pretty much has a new home now because of the remodel. So thru the chaos good things can happen. Btw have you thought about buying a Ducati scrambler desert sled?
only thing i can offer is a place to stay while on the road. Norfolk, VA. I end all my videos with "embrace the suck". i have been embracing the suck for the last three years but see some direction in 2024. glad your mom and you are well as you woke today and get to live this crazy life as we only get one. as for the bike, that is personal. what is the perfect bike? its the one your on. i do have two, so that is hard to answer. it all depends on what weather and what distance on tarmac i am doing. if only going to own one?........... i have not owned or ridden one, but i would pick KLR. been around for ages and big support around the north america. parts are plenty and well respected. not sure if i am buying a honda trail 125 next or a KLR. but i will have both added to my top 5 bikes to own. have the Concours that is my long distance and winter bike, and the W800 cafe for my above 50 degrees and around town. i want the trail 125 for beach cruising around town fun, and KLR for when i move to Tennessee next year, or at least hope. still working on healing from injury last year with herniated L3 disk and severe impingement on L3 nerve to Left quad strength. enjoy life. see you back on the road.
