Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest is a 3,800 tract of land within the Nantahala National Forest Cheoah Ranger District. A two mile trail thru the forest consists of two loops. Yellow Creeks Falls area is a cooperative agreement with access and a trail to the falls. The trail runs along the Yellow Creek which runs into the Cheoah River. The tail is about 0.60 of a mile in and back. There is a small parking area along US/NC 129.

Seneca Rocks is on the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia. It’s is popular area for rock climbing. Back at the base there is a visitor center, picnic area, and the Sites Homestead. High Knob Fire Tower is located on the Virginia and West Virginia State line. Restoration was completed in 2003 it unfortunately the historic structure has seen vandalism. This section of the Bartram trail is just over 4 miles out and back. There is small waterfall not too far from the trailhead parking area. While it doesn't command sweeping views as other trails, it is a nice hike and added bonus of a waterfall. 3/22

St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge is located southeast of Tallahassee, Florida. The refuge is just over 83,000 acres with a good portion encompassing costal marshes. Quick trip out to check out the glades by airboat. Not as many gators out compared to my Shark Valley adventure but nice to get out on the water. 2/22

Despite its name, Shark Valley is a cool spot to check out gators in the glades. There is a 15 mile loop paved trail. Tram rides are available thru Shark Valley Tram Tours your you can bring or rent a bicycle. About mid way is the Observation Tower which replaces the former Shark Valley Fire Lookout Tower.
