  • Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest is a 3,800 tract of land within the Nantahala National Forest Cheoah Ranger District. A two mile trail thru the forest consists of two loops. The trail makes a figure eight like shape. The memorial forest has some trees as old as 450 years. During my visit part of the lower left loop section was closed due to washouts. The photos and video do no justice to the size of some of the giant poplar trees. If you time it right when no one else is on the trails, you’ll really get to experience the solitude of this place.
