We stayed in Puerto Sherry in the Cadiz area for a week while some weather played out. On the ground, land, sand? 😂 they don’t toilet on the boat unless we’re doing a crossing, then it’s an artificial grass patch.

      Haha, thanks - I’ll take that as a compliment! We always trained them to not react to other animals, cats included. They’d sit and watch them go by. In time, we visited friends with cats to ensure they’re used to it and well… they did!

    We have newfoundlands and love sailing our little sailing dinghy. Your videos have definitely become my go to for a channel with dogs on a boat! A girl can dream! (Newfies are water dogs and were actually bred for boat life. They are low energy much of the time, but powerful swimmers and love to do water work. Many people don't realize they are bred as water/boat dogs and think it would be cruel to have them on a boat)

      I LOVE newfies, they’re such a beautiful, gentle giant breed. I was very stuck between a Berner and a Newfie! Mimi isn’t a water breed but she has adjusted… somewhat 😂

    We love seeing this! Wondering what the transition period for the dogs was like. For instance, Did one take to sailing more than the other? Do you ever worry about hair clogging the bilge?

    • @SailingRagdoll
      @SailingRagdoll Месяц назад

      Hi Kari, thanks for watching! All of our dogs sailed from their puppyhood so their only transition period was when we moved onto the boat full time rather than be weekend sailors. In the first couple of weeks they were a little more reactive to things around them but as weeks passed, this settled down. Now they just watch the world go by both at anchor and in marinas! We don’t worry about the bilge blocking up as we check this regularly and hoover, A LOT😂

    Fab update guys 😊 can we ask a couple of questions pretty please 🙏 Where did you get the acrylic from for your hatches? Which sealant did you use? Thanks in advance 😊

    • @SailingRagdoll
      @SailingRagdoll 5 месяцев назад

      Ahoy! The acrylic for the Lewmar size 10’s - I bought 300x300 smoked grey acrylic 8mm thick off of eBay. I bought 6 blanks and cut them down to the right size with a circular saw and a belt sander, and then just sanded up the edges through the grits to a polish. The sealant is CT1 Black. It’s labour intensive, but for not a lot of outlay can get your hatches looking like new - can add a lot of visual value to an ageing boat!

    • @SailingRagdoll
      @SailingRagdoll 5 месяцев назад

      A thought - it wouldn’t hurt to go up to 10mm thickness on the size 10’s - the hardware (hinges and latches) can all do it as they are made for both thicknesses anyway.

    • @jayelwin
      @jayelwin 5 месяцев назад

      When I saw the elbow before the valve I thought that goes against the recommendation of trudesign the company. “Bronze is better” is old thinking. Look at what everyone is pulling out of their boats - bronze. With the collar composite is just as strong.

    We stopped in Puerto Sherry in June this year, it is a nice place and very relaxing. Had the boat hulled out there as we were hit by the Orcas twice in one night.

      I'm sorry to hear you got attacked by orcas - TWICE in one night!!!! That's bonkers. Did they cause much damage or did you get away unscathed? I hope you're back in the water now?! We were lucky enough that we haven't encountered them on this coast but it has been a right pain sailing close to shore and only during daylight to get through. We've just arrived in Gibraltar so almost out of the orca zone... almost! We liked Puerto Sherry - it was lovely and quiet though everything seemed 'far away'. Thanks for watching! 🙂 Fair winds! ⛵️

      @@SailingRagdoll lost the rudder and left the boat there as it was a delivery. the repair was fast, and the sailboat and crew are safe back in the UK now. You are going to like the Med it is a great cruising ground, especially in the winter when there are no charter rentals. fair winds

    Wow, wish we could do 7-9knts, the weather would have to be 20-25knots before we get anywhere near that 😂 There are often fishing boats all across that entrance, making it even more sporty in Culatra 😂 We didn't do the Guadiana. Did you book the marina or just turn up? Great video, love watching you guys 🥰⛵️

      Haha, I do love when we go full 'speed mode'! Ragdoll does sail well... It was fairly quiet thankfully but certainly gave us an adrenaline rush 😂 We called ahead when the marina on the Portuguese side said have no space... no one got back to us beforehand but thankfully they had space 🤣 Otherwise I don't know what we would have done 🤣 Thanks for watching 👏 Fair winds guys! ⛵️

    You done Chris dirty by keeping in the part where he wanted to pick his nose 😂

    River runs fast there. Hope you made it under the bridge and up to Alcoutim? Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.

      It certainly does. We didn’t go under the bridge as we stayed at Ayamonte for a couple of days (lovely place!) and we weren’t 100% sure we’d make it under the bridge with our mast.

      That's laziness, ain't it? The thing is we use them so much that we can't be bothered putting all three up and down all the time. They get in the way upfront and block views below the Genoa when we're sailing... we will, one day figure out a decent solution but until then, we shall comedically struggle 🤣 Yeah, he did not have an easy time... it knocked him out for two days straight! Thanks for watching as always ⛵

    All Chris needs is a really good greasy fry up. A full English breakfast should do the trick.

    Poor Chris, indeed we all get our turn. I had mine on our way to Lagos at night. First time this trip.

    • @SailingRagdoll
      @SailingRagdoll 7 месяцев назад

      It's the worst he's had it - he took anti sickness medication before we left but he did have a coffee that morning and our exit from Lagos was somewhat bumpy.. despite conditions settling down later on, he already 'had it'. It took a solid two days for him to recover but got there in the end. That's a shame - but glad you got there safely and you're tucked away for the winter! Look forward to seeing you guys in the Med next season!

    Nice video guys, sorry to see Chris struck down. We love the Biodramina chicles, chewies we got in Spain. They are a life saver.

      Thanks Michelle! Yes - he's usually ok as he preps & takes medication before we go and 9/10 he's absolutely fine... but sometimes... well... I'll have a look out for those - we tend to use Stugeron and we have a small stash of them from the UK! 😆
