    I am a Rio Grande fan and purchased two with the large herald and 2 small herald. Sadly, ScaleTrains didn't put plows on the small herald like they did in HO so I'm going to have to add plows myself. I don't know what they were thinking.

    Hi C Mastracci , I got all six of the Southern units. I have broke them in and all run fine. I’m like you I don’t know what happened in shipping, all but one of mine the foam was not in place. But no issues with the units. I’m very pleased with them. The slow speed is spot on. I’m going to use them for yard work and on the branch line. Scale Trains hit it out of the park again. Thanks for the update. Have a good weekend. Enjoy those GP30s because I’m going to. 😎😎 👍

    The cab shades seem to be uneven.... If you do not run UP why not patch it out for your short line? On some of you older intro I saw an UP patched out. That would be cool. I model L&N they used a lot of GP 30's I under stand the use of the slug. Do they offer a undecorated version in low nose??

    Nice video. As for N Scale B units (other than FB units), Fox Valley did the GP-60M B unit. I have both the GP-60M and a B unit for BNSF Swoosh. I converted it to ESU LokSound 5. It was a pain in the ass to do as well. They're really nice but they bring the grab irons and visors in a baggie and one has to drill every single hole for each. It was not fun. Anyways, I spoke to ScaleTrains while at the New England Train show last month and asked them what happened to the Rivet Counter SD70 ACE they had announced early last year and they said these were Fox Valley molds which they discovered were incomplete so they had to cancel that. Also, BLI builds SD-70 ACEs at this time and it doesn't make sense for them. They did say they will more than likely make a Rivet Counter GP-60M available soon since they do have full molds from Fox Valley. That'll be nice. They also said it doesn't make sense for them to release more 4 axle locomotives since so many other companies already offer them. I reminded them those other ones don't even come close to Rivet Counter quality. We'll see. I hope they do more 4 axle in modern liveries though. This GP-30 would've been nice in BNSF. I know BNSF doesn't have them anymore but they did have them not too long ago in the swoosh livery. If you all go to these shows, don't hesitate to ask ScaleTrains to do modern 4 axles. I think the more people that ask for this, the higher the chance they'll do it.

    My thing is Since I don't currently have time / space / money for a layout I live vicariously through youtube and I keep a file on my computer with a list of things I've seen from videos and things I've known from the prototype that I would want to model if and when I ever have the chance to get a layout going. This way if something changes about my life I can go "Hey look I've already done some of the preliminary research for the hobby now I can just get going. Plus I have a Night shift Tech support job working from home where in among my work I use youtube videos as a means to help myself stay awake over night.

    Ok thinking about adding a N scale train to my 4'/8' slot car table. I've done some research. I found a starter set I really liked. Then I kept seeing how great Kato was. Then I look and see that train set is 3 times the cost of the one I was looking at. I know you get what you pay. Is Bachman that bad? Like not worth buying? Thanks. Great video

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern 2 дня назад

      Kato is definitely a superior product - their track is more expensive but their trains are (locos and rolling stock) are reasonable - a little more pricey than Bachmann if you go DCC. BAchmann is hit and miss. They've been around forever and they have "toy store" starter sets that are inexpensive and run like inexpensive toys and they have models like their Siemens Chargers that are highly detailed, sound amazing with a lot of light features, and run like Swiss watches. I would be careful with cheaper sets if you want fine-running locomotives. They'll work and you'll get started with them - they'll take a good amount of abuse (like if your slot cars hit them). Kato is not going to like getting hit as much and you're likely to damage some of their details. Bachmann starter sets are usually more toys than models.

      Very common question actually. It's a mix of metal kits from GHQ and Showcase Miniatures as well. Most of them, however, are 3D printed from the former Shapeways website. The balance are Japanese imports from Tomia/Tomyytec.

    When you removed the turnout, the surrounding tracks connected to it looked like they had moved out of place a bit. I’m not sure if you glue your track down or use nails, but did any of the other sections of track further away from the turnout shift a little bit out of place as a result of detaching the turnout from the rest of the track?

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern 4 дня назад

      in general, I do not glue my track down. i use the ballast to hold it in place so when i remove it - it has enough flex to let me do what you saw. not that I remove it often, but if I need to - it's much easier. it'll snap right back into place with minimal scenery repair.

    I personally don't see the desire/need for a helix. Considering in N scale you only need a few feet to get proper elevation for a cross over @2% grade.

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern 7 дней назад

      Might want to run that math again. a 2' rise over 10' run is a 20% grade. If you want to go double deck, you're going to need a very long run which you can do, provided you have the room. The helix gives you a compressed area for the additional run BUT it introduces curves which is a physics problem putting lateral forces on the train as it climbs. So it's the easiest way to get from deck 1 to 2 - but if you can fit it all in one deck, then that's all the better.
