singapore’s most underrated island getaway in the heart of nature // pulau ubin
Pulau Ubin - one of Singapore's little islands that you can take a small boat to. It's a bit like going back in time to what I imagine kampong Singapore was like.
There is one restaurant and a few little shops. Hire bikes line the only street and for $6 you can hire a bike for the whole day and explore this beautiful untouched island. Cycling through tall trees and past disused quarries now filled with water that attract all kinds of wildlife and plants.
We dashed to our favourite spots, eager to see them all this one day. We have many fond memories over on Ubin and today was another one to add.
Come and see Pulau Ubin with us.

singapore’s best mall? // food, unique shops, craft activities, a bowling alley AND an arcade!
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.День назад
There are so many shopping malls in Singapore and after you've been to a few it does feel like you've been to them all. BUT I think I have found a shopping mall that's more than just shopping and food, of course it has plenty on offer for those things too. Somerset 313 has many other options for things to do including a bowling alley, an arcade and several craft shops with hands on activities. ...

When getting ready to film this weeks' episode I had planned a christmassy day of shopping, treats and seeing the lights and decorations along Orchard Road. But one look at my tired family knew it just wasn't going to happen and we needed to do something else instead. But the only thing we wanted to do was nothing! it's been a heavy week, full of emotional ups and downs. we're pleased to share that since filming this episode, Jonty's grandma has made a miraculous recovery - pneumonia, kidney infection and a partial heart failure at the age of 95 would not normally end in a healthy exit from hospital, so we are incredibly grateful. check out our other channels: @jontytan for topical conversations about loc...
singapore’s first marine park is OPEN! // discover big sister's island with us
Просмотров 107 тыс.Месяц назад
The sister's islands have re-opened and just a short boat ride away you'll find yourself on Big Sisters' island. A small island actually but packed with nothing but nature - on the land and in the sea. singapore's newly opened chestnut nature park is full of jungle surprises
Просмотров 12 тыс.Месяц назад
I returned to Chestnut Nature park to complete the NEWLY OPENED southern loop that was closed last time we went as a family. With the recent rain this walk was nice and cool and a break in the rain also meant plenty of wildlife came out to feed. Without having walked too far a mouse dear crossed my path. I froze, I'm not sure it spotted me whilst it was looking for food so I was able to watch i...

When we go away on holiday the thrill is not knowing what to expect. What we might see or encounter. To have this same feeling I decided to get on the first bus that came and then get off at a random stop number later! We had a look on google maps and found a stretch of road we hadn't really been to before. With two hawkers near by, one at each end actually, we decided to stop along the street to see what was on offer and if walking a little further was worth it. Others certainly thought so as there was a line for chicken rice. Jonty, always in the quest to find a chicken rice his Pa would approve of, hopped ...

Maybe… but we’d only choose promote something we think is good 🙂
hell nah wet Char Kuey Teow, Time for some proper Penang fried CKT
We liked it but I’d be keen to try other kinds.
I did this hike 2 days ago & I thought about your video, I as freaking mad when. it started to rain. Lol
used to go camping there in the 80’s , abit more wild back then.
Wow, it seems pretty wild now. Any stories you can share?
@ night time people from across do swim over , that why the army or the gurkhas do patrol along the beaches with m16. nowadays technology do the walk. beside the usual wild animals you see nowadays, they captured 2 wild elephants on the island before , swam across from JB. While the mainland banned firecrackers and fireworks, we had our countdown there and setting off fireworks and firecrackers.
Oh that’s really interesting, elephants! 🐘 amazing. I think I’m going to read up some more about Ubin from the past. Thanks!
I love Ubin! Thank you for taking me there again vicariously. I’ll wait for sunnier weather to make my next trip! Puaka hill is one of my favourite spots too. Can you fly a drone in Ubin?
It really is such a special place. No you can’t fly a drone sadly. I’d love to see that place from the sky.
one of the thigns I love about singapore is that you have this Uber Modern city with these lovely little enclaves not very far away at all
I completely agree! It's amazing to be able to step away from the city and feel like you're in a whole other world.
Just orange cats doing orange cat things haha
Haha are they the fighting kind?
It's a near little adventure no need to go far Borneo or Kalimantan far far deep deepJava jungle and hey it's just a stone throw Singapore island 🏝️
A good close by getaway if you want to be on an island for the day and feel like you’re on holiday.
If only Ubin has a holiday resort ⛵ why why why
I’m kinda glad it doesn’t though…
Ubin used to have a holiday resort, not sure if it is now. Went in the early 2000’s. Just look up the map, got occupied by the obs.
Oh I didn’t know that! I’ve just been looking it up, RUclips has some old videos of it! We’ve seen it there but didn’t know that’s what it was. All the abandoned chalets.
@ Remember beside the chalets room , there is a open swimming pool , kayaking, bbq pit , pool table , archery and a flying fox facility. they got their own jetty and the boat pickup is at punggol marina club. that all i could remember.
Yeah that’s matches up with what we saw online. We found an old RUclips video someone made where they flew a drone over there and you can see it all from above. Guess it didn’t make the money it needed. It would be cool to stay over there but have it as a conservation holiday stay. That way it wouldn’t get as spoilt as if you stay there you onto help with conservation or to learn about the plants and wild life there.
That house reminds me of Pete's dragon movie or aquaman house by the sea or even Popeye house near the seaside...dunno..but somehow
It’s such a lovely house but looks so out of place at the same time as fitting right in! I’d love to wake up to that view.
Excellent video - thanks. How do-able is Pulau Ubin if you're on foot? It must be nearly 40 years since either of us cycled anywhere.... there are lots of hills where we live!
You can easily do Pulau ubin by foot. It really isn’t that large at all. Maybe just look up the routes so you know which ones you want to do to allow enough time. Take plenty of water and food but don’t eat near the monkeys 🙈
My husband & I feel blessed to be friends with you guys, your children are adorable. 😊
Aww thanks!
@@WONDERLUSTworld I hope we will see you guys again soon. 😊
Hello friends, I hope you guys are doing fine, I always love watching your videos. 😊 I hope to see you guys soon. 💜 Stay safe & healthy always. 💜🙏
Thanks! We're doing well, we're so glad you enjoy the videos.
You are welcome. 😊
There was a tragedy of a Pulau Ubin doggie called, Kopi O, rip tomb there.
Aww that’s sad, I just looked the story up.
Any durians?
Yes there are! Sometimes you can buy it be from the boat uncles. Smaller than other durians. We’ve found rambutans over there too.
remember there is wild durian tree out there, can pick them up if you bump into them.
We have seen others bringing them back but not spotted any ourselves. There is a road called Jalan durian there.
We love Pulau Ubin, got my bag snatched two trips ago, but this last time in September, we could get the the Wetlands walkway, it must have been under repair, there was a big gate on the road to it, (unless we were going the wrong way). Thank you.
Snatched by people or monkeys?! Maybe it was under repair.
must be monkey lar , the only bandits that is still around.
@@WONDERLUSTworld monkeys, grabbed it back, banging the " poor:" monkey against the bike, sorry, left out an important detail there!
I also v long nv go ...😂
Maybe it’s time to?
Hi guys... After 6-7 years in SG only Jonty still have the thick british accent amongst u guys considering his parents n him were born here. Was it deliberate? Did he teach in a international school or public
Hey, I think the children's accents have changed a lot with them being younger, their brains pick it up more. We also find when they learn a new word they seem to learn it in the accent it was taught to them in. So they have a mix of local and American sounding words now. It's quite interesting. We have a mix of international and local friends, we both work in an international school. Jonty's accent tends to become more local depending on who is he speaking with. He spent most of his childhood in the Uk so I guess that's the accent that has stuck.
@WONDERLUSTworld the kids n u too have kool accent, mix of british n SG n american😎
@@WONDERLUSTworld but weird thing is when we migrate to foreign countries, we suddenly talk in their accent in just 2-3years. My aunt, cousin n brother moved to goldcoast, holland n usa.. i guess they find its high class accent😅
My sister has been travelling for over 15 years now and spent alot time in Australia and has picked up that accent.
We’re noticing Milo’s is starting to change, also more depending on who he is spending time with too. He has a few American friends. Aspen’s was the first to noticeably change.
Cute place I didn't know existed. Those cats tho 😂
Those cats were so funny! I'm not sure what they were arguing about. Did you catch the auntie spraying them with water in the background of Jonty talking? Seems like a common thing as she was prepared haha This little island is so worth a visit if you get a chance.
Millie got no luck with bike rentals
This one was great! Did all I needed it to do.
Wow 😳 I remembered when I was there around 1989 it was not like now... Glad you Guys showed me...👍😉
What was it like back then?
@WONDERLUSTworld Mostly Kampong n want to go anywhere need to walk now can see the changes n is there a well for you to shower bn a plain was water?
back then the obs was on the right side of the island , there used to be no paved cycling paths, no public toilets . Some of the houses in the kampung are still occupied, you get to use water wells for your water. Need to register at the police station at the jetty point. Night time there ain’t public lamp out there , its total darkness. Also there is one old comfort cab running there , any local pickup you can hitch a ride with a small fees
We used to go mountain biking there in the early 2000s and end up having seafood at one of those restaurants by the sea, so much have changed now.
They have more rugged off road biking trails too but we haven't don't them yet and feel we'd need biked with better breaks and gears to tackle them. The restaurant is still there. I think we ate there once a long time ago now.
Beautiful wonderful video! Great following you guys through your adventures!😂
Thanks! It was a wonderful day out.
Love a good monitor sighting, they are so majestic. 😭 And abandoned houses in the middle of the woods creep me out lol. Looks iffy enough in the daytime; I imagine it’s terrifying at night. 😬
Yes, it does feel like you’re walking through a scene from a horror film. We’ll have a sungai Buloh vlog coming in the next few weeks, we saw the biggest monitor lizard of our lives. More like some sort of dinosaur!
Kodomo dragon?😂 Just kidding
Finally u made it to ubin!!:)
Yeah we did!!! Always worth it
Yeah i went in almost every week once...but not on weekend..but either thu or wed night.
Weekends can be busy, this was a week day too. An evening walk would be lovely I’m sure. Where else do you like to take a walk?
You're just making a pad for the table. And not making a mahjong table. Change the title.
Have some imagination and enjoy!
Perhaps only plaza sing, Vivo city, Ion but more high end and orchard central meaning heartland malls closest is Nex the rest are out
Nex is one of our go to malls as it’s near by, it’s always super busy though!
Awesome video :) thanks for sharing
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
great video. thx for sharing. i am going to check it out by feb. hope to encounter with those monkeys
Lovely! Do be careful of the monkeys though, if you have food on you they may try and get it. They even open zips on backpacks to get the food inside. They look lovely but they do scare me too. We’ve had a few encounters.
There was a YT TEDx-talk "How we design and build a smart city and nation by Cheong Koon Hean." She touched on Punggol township planning.
Ah that’s interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Looks beautiful and perfect family small vacation
Yes! We have already been back! Hehehe
Thank you! Enjoyed that 😊
Ah I’m glad! 😌
Hmm thanks. 👍 Now I know there's a bowling alley too ! 😂
Always surprises in the malls here!
Hallelujah!!! I’m the favorite, $60,000 every week! Now I can afford anything and also support the work of God and the church.
Oh really? Tell us more! Always interested in hearing stories of successes.
This is what Dailey Carinn Stephanie does, she has changed my life. I meet her page on Face book she’s so transparent in her ways.
After raising up to 60k trading with her, I bought a new house and car here in the US and also paid for my son’s (Oscar) surgery Glory to God shalom.
I know Dailey Carinn Stephanie , and I have also has success…..
@@RobertMilley-x5k Ohh,😮 really I thought am the only one trading with her.
Yeah, I do feel Food Republic’s prices are significantly higher on average than the other food court chains like Koufu , Kopitiam or Food Junction. Haven’t been up to level 5 of this mall for some time; used to love the floor-to-ceiling glass windows facing Orchard Road and the amount of natural light it allowed in. Hopefully with the revamp, they are still there.
Time will tell?
Happy New Year to you too!

Hi Wonderlust, My friends and me we can stay around there for few hours. with many shops and a nice food court and toast box coffee to go with relax.
For sure! It’s a great place to spend time! Especially if it’s raining!
Yes, this mall is great. Just letting you know your narration audio is only coming out from one side.
Thanks for letting me know! I’ll make sure to fix that for the next video 👍
You are enjoying the country the right way.
We’re having fun!
Happy New Year to you too. I do think it is a shame when we cannot determine what country we are in by the shops, seeing the same brands as we see in New Zealand, for example, but do appreciate the small vendors have significant overheads. Thank you for showing us this. The Malls in Singapore are however, enormously bigger than anything we have here in Christchurch and that in itself is worth looking at.
They are pretty impressive and we’re finding there are lots of independent stores we haven’t yet discovered! More to come on this channel… 😜
