Hi Jonty and Millie, happened to chance upon your videos and now a happy subscriber! I've been living in Singapore for the past three decades, and it's so refreshing to see you guys introducing the various parts of the Singapore neighborhoods and especially the nature parks that I wasn't even aware of (love that!). I've been learning so much from your videos and wanted to thank you for showcasing the many facets of Singapore. Truly appreciative of the effort you put into your content-keep up the great work!
Nice! Marine Parade holds a special place for me. I spent my younger days there, enjoying the friendly neighborhood vibes. Plus, it's packed with great food spots, and Parkway Parade mall and Joo Chiat are just around the corner. And when you need to relax, East Coast Park is just a short walk away.
Parkway Parade has been around since I was a kid! It has a lot of childhood memories for majority of us easties. These older malls does have more independent shops :D You can explore the opposite side at Roxy Square etc where there are smaller and/or older buildings for your explorations hehe
We have stayed in Katong a few times, and walked around that area, and shopped at the Market, and to Parkway Parade. The food court in the basement had a fabulous drink stand. the Hawker centre was not doing well last time we were there, December 2022, I think because of the MRT construction. We are not staying in the area this coming trip (next Thursday)! as the hotel prices really shot up, I assume because of the new MRT making it more accessible. Thank you for the video, you do this so well.
From Marine parade station you can go to many more link places nearby like katong village . Joo chiat . East coast areas and of course the beach vicinity and so much more to discover
Oh, you're right in my hood! I've been Eastie my entire life, and I've lived in Marine Parade for the last 15 years now. I don't think I would ever want to move away. I hope I can stay here as long as possible because my Peranakan roots are here in Katong, and my Pri/ Sec school building is still here (the actual school is no longer held in the building), so I feel very much at "home" here.
ha I did remove the chilli after truing a small lick and realising my tongue had gone numb!! That's the kind of chilli I think you have to have been brought up eating other wise it is a shock to your mouth! xxx
i lived here all 44 years of my life. The plus points of this area is its usually not as jammed packed like the big towns like Tampines or Ang Mo Kio. A little less choices but if you willing to, theres a lot to discover, katong, joo chiat, geylang, tanjong katong, siglap is all really close by. East coast park is just a stone throw away. Also there are a lot of good schools here, thus there a lot of tuition centres , enrichment centres , so for a typical singaporean family living here with kids, it makes life very easy. Oh and the commute to the CBD area, orchard, bugis, suntec area is very easy to reach by bus and now by MRT. if you drive its like 10min to 15min drive depending on traffic.
Do you know it’s faster getting rid of the spiciness off your mouth by taking a hot drink rather than cold or ice drink? Any hot drink including hot water. Almost instant.

Nice place to grow up!
haha it took me years to learn to appreciate durian, and I grew up with it! Hopefully one day Aspen & Milo will change their minds
They are definitely becoming more tolerant of it so here’s hoping! Heheh

Yes I love that area too and all the shophouses.
that bakery was newly open . from where you are seated in the hawker , you should try the duck rice or the curry rice.
Maybe next time 😉

So many good things close by and the MRT now makes it even easier I’m sure

I will have to remember that for next time 😛
Benjamin Keng? Who he?
local artist
He’s a local singer who wrote and performed this year’s National Day song 😊🇸🇬
I don't like this year's national song.
Oh? What don’t you like about it? We thought it had a really lovely message and it’s pretty catchy too.
Lol what It's a MUCH better song compared to the past few years 😂😂😂😂
