The color information coming from the Komodo is unmatched only by the Raptor X, once you understand how to unlock the power of R3D files. R3D has a 16-bit container and has a global shutter. If you understand computer programing, this means that you are getting the pure source code with no visual artifacts or image distortions. 16 bit means either subtle or aggressive processing to you image data in Davinci will not result in compromises to image quality. Other cameras are processing the sensor data for you. Sharpening, denoising, choosing tonal saturation, hue density, value allocation, highlight saturations etc. This is similar to shooting in JPEG mode vs raw on a DSLR. Arri is the gold standard in *generic image processing* and camera operation, but that does not mean that you can not learn to process your files better than they do for *YOUR* specific projects at the same level or better than they do. If you light your scene to be contained within the Komodo's dynamic range the image is just as impressive as Arri, for much less. Summary: Learn to light for 12 1/2 stops of dynamic range, and master davinci resolve. Because the final destination display devices at this time alway has less dynamic range than any Red camera can capture. Cheers !

5K per lens?? are you crazy? you can get the same look with the 200$ soviet Helios 44-2 lens

FX6: More dynamic range, (very good) Auto focus, compressed formats, crazy good internal ND, way better low light. BM6KFF: Higher resolution, more mojo, internal RAW. Practically speaking, the FX6 will always be a bit more versatile for paying jobs. The Black magic is a little more fun.

Kinefinity looks best to me. love the sensor size

From my point of view BM really needs to start implementing newer technology in their cameras and not relying only and always on the color science mantra. More over in a market where the other contenders offer already a quite comparable image quality but way higher usability.

I have owned both and the image on the 6KFF is definitely better. Sharper but also more organic. Much nicer skin tones and more pleasing colors, way better highlight rolloff. The built-in ND and autofocus on the FX6 are great, but the autofocus still isn't foolproof. The false colors and conventional ISO adjustments make the 6KFF way easier to expose, instead of setting the CineEI and using the itty bitty histogram and zebras on the Sony. I sold my FX6 and bought a Lumix S5iiX AND a 6KFF with change left over.

There’s very little character to the look of the FX6. Now, that’s not to say a proper cinema glass with a talented colorist couldn’t make it look like anything but compared to the black magic and the cost savings, this is a no-brainer. Thanks for the comparison.

What Atomos monitor are you using on the 6K Fullframe? Didn't know they did a 5 inch one that has both SDI and HDMI

Powerful stuff 🔥. Though I feel like it could have been even stronger with more visual storytelling rather than relying heavily on dialogue, although this might be a constraint of the short film format.

every time I think about getting an FX3 OR FX6, I watch a video and im quickly reminded that Blackmagic has a look that Sony FX cameras dont have!

I bought Sony again will see how they compare, been using the FF for about a year now. Oh and I found out of all BM cameras I have - this one is the hardest one to edit in terms of processing power, even though it's same resolution but still, my M2 Pro Mac chokes up. R3D and Arri RAW files do the same though

Black magic the better image and you won’t have a jello effect as long as you don’t do a lot of heavy panning but the nd built in with auto focus is a plus even though I don’t use auto focus mostly I feel like slow motion people use a lot is over done and b for sure is black magic you can automatically see a huge difference

My guess on the blind test was right but I think that was only due to your previous examples helping me spot the differences. In your blind tests I fet they were near even. For my money, I prefer the skin tones, blues and greens from the BMCC.

I like your take on the Blackmagic cameras, I have the 6k pro, the micro G2 and the ursa 12 all of which I love, I do understand what you said about having a beautiful screen but having to block it with a power solution but I took care of that problem a long time ago , I will be sending you a link shortly, the 6k full frame for me for some reason did not fit well with me but on the other hand the micro G2 is a beast most people are sleeping on

It's not only about camera and image, it's also about workflows, codes and lens ... Hard to change it form one to another, stick to one you have.

I love the quality of the FX6 but BM looks excellent too 👍🏻 I have the FX6 and the small ZVE1 and especially as a solo creator is this combo ver good 😉 best cinematic greetings from germany

Great comparison and both look really amazing to be honest. One question: why didn't you use color management for both camera's? I think the Alexa LUT has more of a 'look' to it, it seems less crunchy and a bit better color separation than the Davinci color management. Maybe if both would be color managed it would be even easier to compare.

Love this test. So nice to see well lit and composed footage (yes I know a lot is just natural light). the last test was really telling. both cameras looked beautiful. once i saw both it was easy to tell which was which but when i saw just the a cam i wasn't sure.

What’s happening with all the flicker in the shots? It’s happening on both cameras so I’m guessing it’s something to do with how you are editing it? It’s really shows up at 10:31 but looks to be in a lot of the shots.

Agree with all the comments here. Although, I’m a fx6 user and the footage here for the fx6 seems to be leaning more towards a magenta shift - sorry if you mentioned that already somewhere in the video, but do you think this is because of the Alexa LUT you’re using?

6KFF With DJI Focus Pro is a Game changer for me!

blackmagic has more of a cinematic look. sony looks too soapy and clinical

All cameras are just too good. Anything beyond 2020, its all good. Perhaps what we need now is not image quality but more of functionality, usability and features that can make us run and gun filmmakers have an easier shooting time.

Bmpcc wins for image quality. But when you’re a solo operator, nothing beats FX6 for speed of use. For doc work, it made all other cameras obsolete

They’re not different cameras, they’re both cameras with different features. One is outdated with a lack of 6k and open gate the other doesn’t have super high frame rates. I got my Cinema 6k for $1700 and can use my GH6 for high frames rates. I use cinema lenses as well so I don’t need AF.

Prefered the warmer B footage, gotta say it's wild we live in times where you can get a BMD 6KFF for $1500 that looks like cinema quality. I do find I like the Sony look for some action or more real life shots, the 6KFF has a more dream look or less real life IMHO. Today the camera is not a limiting factor in shooting, our skills and imagination are what counts most.

It’s has dual native iso (400 & 3200]. How can it be bad in low light?

Awesome review/comparison, bro! Low light is disappointing, but if it's as good as the pocket 4k, which I'm used to, that's fine.

Came into the same things with my F55, which I needed something for small Interiors and gimbal work, I have a BMPCC 6K but I bought an FX30, love the small form factor and how well it matches to the F55.

Yeah it's hard to compare two different cameras, they've gotten so good these days I don't think you can go wrong with any. It has gotten to the point where you'll only buy a camera now depending on what your needs are like internal ND, xlr ports, if it's big or small etc!

seems like 6k pro is still king which is mindblowing very excited for the pyxis tho with that box style and FF sensor, might pick that one up later once everyone in public gets to test it out and have their opinions on it
