That's why I use pihole for my DNS.
Before I watch, anyone know how much this'll cost?
even tho im completely on the side of the developers of kea saying that what you mentioned was not something made for a dhcp server and thus its not a in progress feature but rather, intentionally not a feature well, despite that im also at your side, because it should be warned, feature regressions should be warned to the user, its nonsense to not do so however, that is not kea's fault, that is just a dumb decision by the team behind openwrt so what you said is "something to keep in mind if you are using the kea feature in within openwrt" if you are setting up the stuff by your own, you shouldnt expect such feature, that is something that should be done through the dns, dynamic domain mapping using the hostname and the mac address, the dhcp really has nothing to do with that, makes sense its not part of kea but i say again, nor makes sense to not alert you that the feature will be missing so, at the end of the day you are right, and kea developers too, openwrt devs are wrong
and btw openwrt could perfectly implement that, kea did nothing wrong cause they at no moment said they are a drop in replacement for isc-dhcp-server, its stated that they are going closer to the KISS, JUST being DHCP and DHCP features, not mixed with stuff that should be managed by the DNS and that has to be managed by the DNS because it *has to*, it is managing domain names, so it *has to* be managed by DNS, i honestly dont get why its missing in openwrt when selecting kea, that is actually damaging the image of kea like if kea had something to do with it
any advice as to what to do if you have comcast/xfinity as your only option? if you decide to use your own router, they start charging you per gigabyte.
For those who don't want to run their own server. Ente is an alternative that does a lot of the same stuff(and for those who wants it.. It can be self hostable)
Dude! That is dedication! Thank you!
I always wondered where FUTO came from
Louis, you're a treasure. thank you for doing what you do, helping others, etcetera. the world would be a better place if there were more and more people like you. great example to the rest of us. :-)
Can there just be a gallery program for your phone and computer that doesn't do ANY of this, please? Just a digital photoalbum that works like the paper ones do. No geotagging, no processing of any kind, no grouping, themes, hosting, tabs, browser integration or ANY kind of sharing, no hashtags, no ai... Just. Plain. Pictures. The Wordpad of image galleries, if you will. Every time I get used to one program, windows makes it unusable and bricks the operating systems that _do_ still run the program. I miss my ACDSee.... 😔
We run nextcloud. Despite what documentation says, the only sane way to use it is by running it in a container using aio "image".
Hey, you don't need to use screen to run docker compose. Just do "docker compose up -d" and whenever you want to see it's output, "docker compose logs -f".
but i like seeing it flow across the screen. it's pretty, and it makes me happy. i like being happy. do what makes you happy :)
@@rossmanngroup -f key will make you happy :- )
@@rossmanngroup -f key will make you happy. Use the -f key, -f means 'follow'.
Wow finally something where you can combine green + car
Thank you Louis Rossman ❤
If there was an alternative Keep with a similar interface, I've tried a lot of notes apps, but I have never found one that is as minimalistic and at the same time has the ability to attach photos/audio to notes.
Just quickly.going to loint out the hypocrisy in Louis Rossmann making a tutorial for FUTO where he admits that he hasn't paid a cent in his life for pfsense after 20 years of use
incorrect
Louis, please convince Immich to drop Redis in favour of something FOSS.
It’s pretty good so far. I use it as a secondary backup, but it’s missing the option to delete backed up pictures from my device, which is kind of a dealbreaker
FYI, it's better to stay behind a few versions, so you don't get hit with bug.
Wow thanks for that. I know Sony is not perfect but at least their Xperia Phones still come with SD Card slot and headphone jack so I have unlimited storage and my headphones don't die after 2 years cause of the battery
Install VS Code and install extension for YAML files, you will get code highlighting, intellisense, error marks, etc.
Anyone know of a similar project that can analyze audio in a similar fashion? I want to create a sample preview thing like Splice or Loopcloud, but with my own library of sounds and no subscription fee...
as immich is self hosting, an "federation" feature is missing. Could not have my own immich instance and join others.
Could you elaborate? Really curious about what you mean.
Thx

imich is good i used for a while, but no need to disparage your competition, i switched from imich to nextcloud because nextcloud replaced all my cloud services in one platform (photos, calander, bookmark manager, contacts, password, manager, files, video calling, messaging, online office suite, and more) for photos i use memories app for nextcloud i notice no difference in performance between it and imich amd has same if not more features i run nextcloud aio on em780 micro pc that sits next to router, and havent had any issues
Woahhhh so cool!
I use your voice to text transcription app frequently, I never once worry about my privacy; and it's worth the few dollars you asked for it 100%. I really hope you guys come out with more things that can fill in the service niche for Google, Apple, etc invasive products. I also wish there was a privacy friendly way to use Google Maps. I know open maps exists but last time I used it (6+ years ago) it just wasn't good. I'm running Magisk on a custom rom optimized for privacy, not logged in, and I try to use it in offline mode (I say try because I only do 85% of the time... traffic sucks it's nice to avoid it). If anyone knows of a privacy friendly google maps front end that works well let me know. I'm sure the ToS prevents developers from making their own google maps front end that doesn't invade your privacy though. I'd legit be willing to pay $3-5 a month just for maps premium. aka google maps or something just as good but it respects your privacy.
This is why people don't use open source, noone wants a 20 minute terminal tutorial to install an image gallery, it's also why noone uses Linux unless it's on a steam deck. I appreciate the video but this stuff is hurting not helping.
you could just install casaOS (1 command) and then click the install button on immich when you bring up the web interface. boom ur done.
your conflating self hosting with open source, they are not the same thing. Self hosting requires a strong technical understanding to do properly, it's not for everybody and it looks like it's not for you (There's no shame in it). Yes, some open source software is garbage (That's true for everything) but it's just a different development model for software, a non-techie can use open source software perfectly fine without having to be an expert (Assuming the software is built well).
@jacksoncremean1664 No, I'm not, I'm if anything comparing this to compiling binaries to people who have no idea what either are, no desire to learn it, and just want to install it and be done. If all the Linux distro teams could actually work together and create a unified experience rather than fighting to be king of the distro stack for 20 years, you could have installers that pull dependencies from a unified repo maintained by something like The Linux Foundation with a script in it to do all this, that has been vetted by The Community and just work... Ala Windows. But this will never happen because people are desperate to convert everyone to terminal users rather than all working together. Wanna make this stuff more mainstream?? Look at the fractured, infighting Linux community and fix that first. Otherwise, use Windows and git for these, people are adopting that far more than Linux.
This is a terrible point. This is NOT a drawback of open source. As far as I’m aware, Immich does offer a downloadable setup with no command line fuss. Besides, closed source software often needs setup in the terminal and experience. Now, what you’re complaining about is how difficult self hosting can be. Most server type software expects you to have some experience and often won’t bother with single click installs. Don’t confuse your frustrations with self host with those of open source.
@Derpalerpa it IS if you want enough people to start using it that change actually *happens*.
The github readme has some important details. Disclaimer ⚠ The project is under very active development. ⚠ Expect bugs and breaking changes. ⚠ Do not use the app as the only way to store your photos and videos. ⚠ Always follow 3-2-1 backup plan for your precious photos and videos!
As you should for most self hosted stuff. Keep a backup and a backup of your backup.
Sorry if this is a dumb question. Can the system used for the router also be used for the server? Or do I need 2 separate systems? Thank you!
"this is not linux documentation" Proceeds to use command line with more steps than the average archlinux wiki entry. I'm half joking. It's very easy to follow, but my brain tries to turn off when it sees a terminal. Maybe it's the lack of a cat.
I have always wanted a homelab type of setup but it has always seemed like way too much research. Thanks for making this guide man you are doing something great here.
thank you mr. clinton
5 seconds and then we're already insulting the open source community
This new guy Louis is a great presenter he should do RUclips or something
Thanks Louis! I was having trouble trying to get Immich to work.

I would like quality settings for video, because I have 10 mpbs up and don't want to have to look at a 15 fps POS designed for 4g over gigabit wifi just because my home network can't handle an 11 mbps file.
it automatically transcodes files
@@JessicaFEREM I mean, multiple quality settings. If I have a 10 or 8 mbps connection, that should be a different video stream from a 2 mbps connection. Even if the file is 11 mbps.
I hope they implement this asap.
I have used this software for a couple of weeks, and one concern i have is about the format it stores photo on the disk - if maybe there will be functionality to make backups of gallery in some human-acceptable way it would be great)
Tried to install this a while ago, didn't succeed because i don't want to run it on docker. Should give it a try again.
Been running it on an i3 7100 for a few months and it's absolutely incredible, zero maintenance besides "docker compose pull"-ing every once in a while. it runs entirely in my home network, my phone has Tailscale constantly running meaning that wherever I am in the world, as long as I have access to the internet I can still use Immich (or any other service hosted on my lan) without exposing my services to the internet or having to toggle anything when leaving or entering my network.

Can it learn people and pets faces and find them by name ?
What you did here is awesome.
This is one of the first softwares I will install when I get my server up and running.
Happy to see the mostly idiot proof guide to installing and using Immich is coming along.
Can you compare it to other self-hosted solutions with ML categorizaion? Programs such as librephotos, PhotoPrism, and Lychee?
I'm sensing a bit of hate for nextcloud 😂 (I'm with you)
Welp I was having protonmail handle this this seems better.
This was pretty cool seeing Louis Rossman demonstrating the AI functionality in Immich and hearing abou the performance and behavior differences with nextclout. :)
I was very impressed by this too, so I decided to try it on my personal Immich instance and compare it to google photos Props to the team, it works much better than google photos and works both in english and in portuguese (actual portuguese, not brazilian).
Have friends that constantly complain about Windows and being forced to stay online and deal with shit software and paying for subs for everything. Linked them to the Futo document and they all ignored it or read it for a second and said no. Classic
