The swipe functionality could definitely improve, and having Open Source swipe information would be a huge win for all people that swipe to input words. :)
thank god! i will definitely be participating. i've been a swipe user for about 10 years and once i switched over the the FUTO keyboard, it was honestly horrendous. i have been relying on the voice to text, which is incredibly accurate enough for me to use it the majority of the time. but when im in situations where voice to text isn't an option, swiping is my go-to default and boy is it bad
Tried it out, got to a 100 words in a couple minutes, will definitely be swiping more! One suggestion would be to add a confirmation to exit swiping for people on gesture navigation. Causes a few save errors because I swiped too far from the right. Another suggestion is to let the user manually navigate to the next phrase, because sometimes I make a mistake on the last word and would like an opportunity to reverse it.
regarding your last point, if you move on to the next phrase you simply press `Del` and it will return to the final word in the previous phrase for you to swipe it again.
It would be cool if as an additional incentive, I could sign up to receive some kind of "fun stuff we learned about how people swipe" report once the dataset is big enough to be worked with!
Love this approach. That said, given the source-first nature of the app, I wouldn't even mind sending *opt-in, anonymized* swipe data as I could still be confident that the content of my messages isn't going to some shady server for advertising and spam purposes. It'd be a lot more of that juicy training data for y'all (while still respecting user privacy) and save time for us since we can use what we'd be typing anyway rather than having to set aside time to help train the model.
Personally, I'm only OK with FUTO doing this. Any other company I wouldn't trust. Although individual word swipes would be ideal so that there is no connections to any other words.
I'm really glad you're addressing this. I've paid for the FUTO keyboard and I'm happy to support the project but the swiping, which I would greatly prefer to use most of the time, is abysmal. On par with OpenBoard in how bad it sucks, which makes sense now because I didn't know the swiping data was siloed by the corps.
I thought I loved 'Nothing' company because they are transparent ;-P You guys just came in and changed that forever. This is awesome. I love your approach.
FYI: the last word cannot be corrected with the "Del" button as it instantly moves on to the next sentence. Consider treating the trainig data for the last word with less weight
I know it may not be a priority right now, but building datasets for other languages would be also a good idea at this point? I already provided data for a lot of English words, but it would be nice to choose my native language and have hope for the future. Due to my IT related work I mostly use English on my devices anyway, but it would be nice to talk to my family as well. :)
Glad to see this. I am finding the swipe type feature a lot harder to work with on Futo kb (sticking with it, though!) One problem on the swipe dataset collector is that it is treating hyphenated words as single words (i.e., treating "hyper-flexible", "Spider-man", etc. as one fluid swipe for both words, so you have to swipe "HYPERFLEXIBLE" all together). This is not how my brain works when I use a swipe-typing keyboard. I usually swipe the first word, add the hyphen, then swipe the second word (i.e., I swipe "hyper", add "-" and then swipe "flexible"). I assume I'm not alone with this? I'm a bit worried this will cause some problems with the model training.
I'm an avid swipe user and I'm happy to contribute a ton - I still use Gboard even though I paid for futo because nothing else is able to come close to replicating Gboards accuracy for me
Additional question: Could you please consider adding the Phonetic arrangement for the Bulgarian layout? No people I know can properly use the current one in my country - everyone uses phonetic. I can try some swiping, but english only for now. Thanks for your hard work! You're the best! :)
I just tried the swipe training and I have 1 bit of feedback. As a primary swipe-typer, I usually scale my keyboard down in the vertical axis so that it's easier to swipe between the letters. (because they're closer together) I don't know if it's possible, but adding scaling to swipe.futo would be handy. I don't know if that data is interoperable with the rest if you start adding different scaled keyboards to the mix.
The timing of this is pretty crazy, I just switched from FKB to Google exclusively because swipe text is so inaccurate. Really glad to see that the team is working on it! I am at 200 words and counting!
Love it! Possible couple of improvements: - more languages - listen to words instead of seeing what will improve prediction for misspelled words - fix accidental back button activation? (I don't think this is possible to fix in browser) - remember swiped words count in browser?
This is a great initiative. When I was typing, however, there were multiple issues where when I went to swipe something beginning with a P or an L, my phone triggered the back action for the webpage and ended up throwing off the swipe action. Additionally, I feel like the website's keyboard itself isn't as nice to use as the regular FUTO keyboard (duh). I would love to see this exact same concept but bundled as some sort of app where I can use my phone's native FUTO keyboard as the swipe measurer. Not sure how well that would work with the current implementation of the system keyboard though, or if it would even be possible without running into security/privacy issues. Still, loving the work you guys are putting in! Definitely gonna start swiping as soon as I'm done writing this.
from futo's latest release: Nearly a million words were swiped in total, corresponding to 63,415 unique words. The average session swiped around a hundred words. There are no improvements to swipe yet in this release, but it will be the focus for the next major release.
I tried using the FUTO keyboard and had to go back to Google keyboard because of better Swipe functionality there. Definitely putting in my 2 cents by swiping away for FUTO. Will be extremely happy to come to back to FUTO if swiping gets better.
Hey, is there a way for me to easily keep up with new features? The only thing I care for are personalized learning for non-English, Japanese IME support, and simultaneous language support (mainly English + Indonesian). I'd rather not go around searching or wondering if there's progress on it and just wait, haha.
I'd love an opt-in toggle in the keyboard itself. Make it easily accessible from the quick toolbar with a disclaimer each time you toggle it on and turn it off automatically after a few hours or a day. Did 250. I'm doing my part. Also I say gamify the website like galaxy cruise does.
Literally this is. I would totally do that. Maybe having some kind of daily review thing where you can see what is going to be sent each time so you can remove some stuff if you don't want it to be sent
Agreed, It is bad enough that words starting with P triggers makes me accidentally wipe back for my phone. It actively changes the way I swipe, which is not good for the dataset.
Ezcellent, swipe has been the biggest pain point. however i have also probably been at about half typing speed normally due to poorer autocorrect and difficulty dialling in the same layout.
Hey, I just checked out the website and will be happy to help out. But I did notice -as expected - it's english sentences that are presented to the user. I assume the swiping patterns and details in recognition would be different in different languages. So I think you guys should add a language selector so we can also provide datasets for german, french, spanish, everything else. And don't forget the different keyboard layouts. Would love to switch to the FUTO keyboard eventually, but as a german who get's annoyed when gboard doesn't recognize my swiping it's unfortunately not feasable yet. But I hope I can help change that for german as well.
I love the keyboard. I was lucky that RUclips recommended this clip else I wouldn't have known it was there (yes I paid too - I don't mind paying for software)
Please add something to the website to see how far the dataset has gotten. Like, if there is a milestone or something. Or if nothing else, a counter is also useful, in my opinion.
Super cool! Thank you so much. It really needs improvement 😅 While we are at it, some more feedback: Would be great if the keyboard could recognise the language I am trying to type and use the appropriate suggestions (without changing key layout). Many non-english people like me switch between two languages very very frequently.
dear futo team. i like your project a lot and would like to support you more. is it possible to train this app in swipe recognition in german language?
One problem I noticed is that because the site doesn't use the OS keyboard, when I swipe starting from "p", I often trigger the back button on Android. In order to avoid that I don't go close enough to my natural starting position, if that makes sense. Just FYI.
I dont like swipe typing, it doesn't allow me to use both of my hands, but i have swiped about 160 words... i didn't know that i can stop at any time, though there is a limited number of words... maybe you should have stated that it's unlimited and i can feel free to stop at any time... love your work, keep it up
Huh... so the text sometimes is large enough that it flows under the keyboard. Clicking "skip" is pretty hard in this case because the feedback is changing which word is highlit... which I can't see. Also having some trouble with swiping near the edge of the screen resulting in the browser treating the input as a gesture. Can probably resolve this one entirely on my end, but mildly concerned that this may have some weird / unintended consequences in the resulting dataset. Very cool project.
Great idea I had already swiped 300+ words, but I am activating back button when word start with "p" so I am not sure, the website don't remember swiped words, using localstorage in browser would be nice, but i guess it might look like website is remembering you/spying you for someone. I also missing another languages. I also wonder if FUTO team know that people misspell words (especially languages like English) when they swipe normally , so it would be nice if there was a version when you can listen to word and then swipe it
Futo's keyboards' layouts need some changes to make them on par with Google's/Samsung's standard ones. German keyboards are missing dedicated keys for ä ö ü ß for instance.

Add the possibility to use one keyboard layout for multiple languages, I hate to use the Spanish layout but I have to use it if I wanna have Spanish autocorrection (also, I want the ñ to be on the n button when I press and hold it when i use the English keyboard language)
Nice, one thing that could be added after payment = let the user personalize the keyboard with custom color for the keys, background, poped up keys and letter
Lovely site! It runs very smooth, even on my cheapo phone. If this is successful enough, do you think you will need to train a similar dataset for other languages?
Somehow, more than 10 years ago, Gboard already had excellent swipe support without resorting to AI, and it worked incredibly fast even on devices with 512MB of RAM and ancient CPU's. I'm not belittling your project, I just suspect that AI is a step in the wrong direction.
Would very much like to see the option to display long press symbols in the corner of the main keys. I'm surprised this is missing. The autocorrect function still needs some work too (picks weird words) but I really want to support the project. I'd much rather use this than google.
I tried to use it, the text had some very US / UK centric names, it was difficult for me to swipe them as I dont know the spelling by heart - maybe have a dataset for international users for generic words ?
I wonder how feasible it would be to make a "Telemetry" addon for the keyboard, that way it's definitely opt-in and not included with the normal version of the app.
I have questions. Is the clipboard ever going to be fixed? If you copy to the clipboard it will show what you clipped on the default keyboard if you switch back. Even after clearing your keyboard history.
Havent heard that you were working on a keyboard, i've wanted to use swipe ever since i first tried it but there's just no keyboard available that cares about privacy! Getting datasets for different languages is gonna be tough..
I really want to love the FUTO keyboard (especially since GBoard's new layout is atrocious) but on my phone (OnePlus Nord 5G) maybe 1 in 5 times when the FUTO keyboard is selected and I click on a text entry field, search bar, whatever, no keyboard shows up. The flashing cursor appears, but not the keyboard. Super frustrating. Any ideas?
The back swipe gesture on new versions of Android kind of ruins it when trying to start typing something with a letter from the right side of the display
I don't have an Android to use your keyboard with, and anytime I get the chance to try the swipe feature I inevitably turn it off because I'm soo bad with it. Would it still be useful for me to try going to the link or are y'all particularly looking for people whom use such a feature?
I have an issue when I move my cursor to begining or middle of a word and start typing, it moves the cursor back to the end of the word. Is this an option I can remove?
The swipe functionality could definitely improve, and having Open Source swipe information would be a huge win for all people that swipe to input words. :)
Just went and swiped 1002 words, will go back and type some more tomorrow. Thanks for your work on this project!
After 2 days I'm over 1000 now. Great job! I didn't manage to make it in a single session like you. More tomorrow!
thank god! i will definitely be participating. i've been a swipe user for about 10 years and once i switched over the the FUTO keyboard, it was honestly horrendous. i have been relying on the voice to text, which is incredibly accurate enough for me to use it the majority of the time. but when im in situations where voice to text isn't an option, swiping is my go-to default and boy is it bad
It's usable when I slow down to 30% speed... Except some words it just refuses to understand even when I stubbornly give more times before tap typing
I don't like swipe _at all,_ but my brother does use it.
Sent him a link. Bless you all at FUTO. You're doing God's work.
I have to say, the swipe training site makes a great fidget toy during boring meetings. Happy to help this project anyway I can!
Tried it out, got to a 100 words in a couple minutes, will definitely be swiping more!
One suggestion would be to add a confirmation to exit swiping for people on gesture navigation. Causes a few save errors because I swiped too far from the right.

I have that same gesture error. It's almost always P words that cause a problem.
It would be cool if as an additional incentive, I could sign up to receive some kind of "fun stuff we learned about how people swipe" report once the dataset is big enough to be worked with!
Will do it, daily for a month.
Thanks to FUTO❤
Will pay for FUTO keyboard once I'm 100% satisfied.
Love this approach. I'm not using the Futo keyboard right now but I'm definitely happy to contribute to an open source model.
I thought I loved 'Nothing' company because they are transparent ;-P
You guys just came in and changed that forever. This is awesome. I love your approach.
always thought "contribute to your model, not theirs" kind of missed the mark. opt-in contribution to an open dataset is perfectly acceptable.
FYI: the last word cannot be corrected with the "Del" button as it instantly moves on to the next sentence. Consider treating the trainig data for the last word with less weight
Approve your transparent data collection methodology, albeit I avoid swipe typing like the plague - good hunting! \m/
Can you give an opt in for collecting swipe data? I would prefer that to the webpage option.
are you planning on adding other datasets for non-english languages?
I know it may not be a priority right now, but building datasets for other languages would be also a good idea at this point? Noticed this also in my 350 words swiped.
spiderman is one word no hyphen, isnt it?

I wouldn't mind an opt in option to share anonymised typing data from day to day use
Great! Yeah, I almost gave up on the Keyboard because I prefer swiping. I'll get in there and train some swipes.
Would be cool if the website showed the statistics of collected data
I just tried the swipe training and I have 1 bit of feedback. As a primary swipe-typer, I usually scale my keyboard down in the vertical axis so that it's easier to swipe between the letters. Love it!

Got 500 in last night. Thank you for doing what you do!
Hi, I'm from Russia, and I use swipe all the time... or did until switched to FUTO. When are you gonna make more languages available to participate?
Any plans for other languages in future?
Awesome, gonna do this every time I'm on a train ride now. You people rock!
Wow. This sounds like an amazing response to technical challenges of the app. I hope for continued responsiveness between FUTO and its community.
what a fantastic idea and a fantastic project.. love you guys.. thanks for bringing back some faith in technology..

@@thibaultmol by default it should send only the top 10k English words and have a review option if you want to send everything.
I keep trying futo every few months. Im always keen to move when its better
Yeah, the swiping is not great. Glad to see it's being addressed!
Will info gathered this way be relevant for swiping in languages other than English?
We also need split keyboard support for folding phones.
More languages in the future would be really nice
Ezcellent, swipe has been the biggest pain point. however i have also probably been at about half typing speed normally due to poorer autocorrect and difficulty dialling in the same layout.

While watching this video I started swiping. Hope my time will help you!
Typed with FUTO
Please add one-handed option for keyboard size. Swiping is much more accurate when you can adjust the keyboard size.
How do i finish a session? Do I just close the tab/press back or do I have to press something? Love the idea
Will there be other languages available at some point?
I love the keyboard. I was lucky that RUclips recommended this clip else I wouldn't have known it was there (yes I paid too - I don't mind paying for software)
Should we swipe through even hyphenated or foreign/archaic words?
I just skipped those - same with the incorrect/missing apostrophes.

I did, too.
I want futo keyboard to succeed, I swipe primarily. It's rough. Will contribute.
Please add something to the website to see how far the dataset has gotten. Like, if there is a milestone or something. Or if nothing else, a counter is also useful, in my opinion.
If you add an AZERTY keyboard layer, i'd love to help !
Amazing keyboard option!!
futo keyboard voice typing is great
The swipe is pretty bad, but I'm very happy you guys created this. I'll be happy to help anyway possible.
Excellent. Thank you.
I love the keyboard and will be helping with the mobile website, for sure. But could we also get an option in the keyboard app to allow this natively?
Super cool! Thank you so much. It really needs improvement 😅
While we are at it, some more feedback:
Would be great if the keyboard could recognise the language I am trying to type and use the appropriate suggestions (without changing key layout). Many non-english people like me switch between two languages very very frequently.
great work! But will other languages available for creating this dataset too? (russian, for example)
I don't usually use swipe but I put in some work
dear futo team. i like your project a lot and would like to support you more. is it possible to train this app in swipe recognition in german language?
One problem I noticed is that because the site doesn't use the OS keyboard, when I swipe starting from "p", I often trigger the back button on Android. In order to avoid that I don't go close enough to my natural starting position, if that makes sense. Just FYI.
Just gave it 200 words; my wife is doing the same on her phone. I'll stop by from time to time and contribute a little.
Have you considered some of the methods that anonymise on device, together with opt-in for users?
Would be happy to join to help improve the keyboard!
I dont like swipe typing, it doesn't allow me to use both of my hands, but i have swiped about 160 words... i didn't know that i can stop at any time, though there is a limited number of words... maybe you should have stated that it's unlimited and i can feel free to stop at any time... love your work, keep it up

Very cool project.
On the page wordd starting with Q & P are hard to swipe with gesture navigation - ends up as a back swipe to go back.
Great idea I had already swiped 300+ words, but I am activating back button when word start with "p" so I am not sure, the website don't remember swiped words, using localstorage in browser would be nice, but i guess it might look like website is remembering you/spying you for someone. Futo's keyboards' layouts need some changes to make them on par with Google's/Samsung's standard ones.
German keyboards are missing dedicated keys for ä ö ü ß for instance.
Could you possibly add an iOS version of the site or rather iOS keyboard layout? I'm an Apple user and I would love to help support the dataset in advanced for iOS too for when, if ever, it releases
Please add Bulgarian Phonetic Layout. This is the only thing stopping me from switching to FUTO (current keyboard i have is swiftkey)
Done! We for please for Spanish too! 🙏
Add the possibility to use one keyboard layout for multiple languages, I hate to use the Spanish layout but I have to use it if I wanna have Spanish autocorrection (also, I want the ñ to be on the n button when I press and hold it when i use the English keyboard language)

Lovely site! It runs very smooth, even on my cheapo phone. If this is successful enough, do you think you will need to train a similar dataset for other languages?
Any updates on LLM autocorrect for anything but English? German, in particular?
Somehow, more than 10 years ago, Gboard already had excellent swipe support without resorting to AI, and it worked incredibly fast even on devices with 512MB of RAM and ancient CPU's.

I tried to use it, the text had some very US / UK centric names, it was difficult for me to swipe them as I dont know the spelling by heart - maybe have a dataset for international users for generic words ?
Awesome idea
On Firefox mobile (Android phone in portrait mode), the bottom row of keys is cut off.
This Ely was work with go swore.
What it should have been;
This reply was written with futo swipe.
I wonder how feasible it would be to make a "Telemetry" addon for the keyboard, that way it's definitely opt-in and not included with the normal version of the app.
Guys I love this attempt but my window keeps trying to scroll as I try to type.
Just did 100. Imma do some more

I have questions. Is the clipboard ever going to be fixed? If you copy to the clipboard it will show what you clipped on the default keyboard if you switch back. Even after clearing your keyboard history.
that's outside their control, it's an OS thing. every third party keyboard is going to suffer from this
Havent heard that you were working on a keyboard, i've wanted to use swipe ever since i first tried it but there's just no keyboard available that cares about privacy!
Getting datasets for different languages is gonna be tough..
maybe make a qwertz version, I went through 500 words without noticing that I swapped Z and Y

Maybe add a language option, the QWERTY layout really confused my as a QWERTZ user (german)
The back swipe gesture on new versions of Android kind of ruins it when trying to start typing something with a letter from the right side of the display
