Normalized
Correction, when leveraged properly, is a very important tool in the vision improvement process. The fact is distance vision improves distance vision. Using a normalized correction well means getting the most out of your stimulus without crossing over into counter productive strain. There is some debate within the community as to how much blur should be the goal. Personally I prefer my normalized set at 20/30 in reasonably good indoor lighting. Everyone must make their own choices in the method, but if you want advice from someone who has been at this a while.... well this video about covers it.

Hey reannon hope so you are doing good i have been doing patching for a week and guess what thats my situation is same i am seeing quite weird bcz my left eye before was doninated but now Right eye seems to catch and left looks to worst i dont know why is that but yes need some general things to listen from you should i stop doing it or what tag in method not actually wrks that for me and yes maybe i should give my eyes time to catch up and not do patching for days.and yes i fell my eyes are actually working together but less better than before i dont know why would love to hear from you again comment bcz maybe you didnt got notification on unlisted video❤❤
I have responded to your original comment. But I will add here, patience is so important in this process,. slow and easy is the way to go.
How's your progress been? Whats your new diopters u are at?
Hey reanon hope you are doing good need advice i had myopia of 0.5 left and 0.5 right overprescribed and now my right eye is at -0.75 and left same how should i do try active focus maybe patch my eye and use 0.5 old glasses and one more my optometrist actually overprescribed me at first it actually was 0.25 in right and maybe just pseudo myopia would love to hear from you ❤
I am not entirely clear what you have happening here. But it sounds like you caught things early in the cycle and that is really great for you. The best advice I can give you is to take in information and then make informed decisions. My videos tackle the basics as applies to most people (who didn't catch on to the cycle early on) and the descriptions have links to still more related content.Much of the advanced stuff won't apply to you. If I were you: I would not use the new stronger glasses unless you feel you need to. I would only use correction as needed and I would work on better vision habits. I wouldn't change anything else at this time. Just address correction use and habits and see where that gets you. Again; if it was me in your position...
@Reannon5 thanks 👍 Buddy
So when reducing cyl for normalised and differentials, do we reduce both sph and cyl or just one per reduction? I remember reading on EM that you do one at a time but can’t be sure.
yes you remember correctly, reduce one at a time. Anytime you can't recall I recommend the wiki. Best wishes
@Reannon5 and just yesterday I read Jakes response to always reduce cyl in differentials first. I haven't started doing anything yesterday my daughter got given -4 and I just need to get her those first so she can see the board at school. Then I can start all this, challenge is the optometrist,in the UK it's difficult
@@redribbonredribbon2430 Most important, don't rush! Small sustainable changes. US optos are a pain too
@@Reannon5 I'm not ready to do anything due to still reading up. If it wasn't for school I'd delay these glasses but she needs them urgently, teachers don't allow students to switch seats. They allowed whilst waiting for glasses only . I'll watch your other videos too. Sure does help .
@@redribbonredribbon2430 I understand the concern for sure, and that is hard. Does the child already have glasses? If not then failing to introduce cylinder is not the same as reducing it... It is really important to make educated choices regarding correction and that is why one must not rush. If correction cannot wait seek out an opto that is willing to keep the correction simple (if possible equalized and without cyl) and ideally slightly undercorrected. It might take some hunting around but hopefully you can find someone.
I continue to admire your efforts to help both yourself and your children with the prevention of myopia!
How can I pull and push in the eyes?
Hey, i found a interesting thing. When i saw pause your video and see description box. I first increase the distance mobile screen and my eyes until the description box text is blury. Then, i blink my eyes softly and i found a little bit clear, then i started to read the text and blink softly. Is it active focus?will it work for me?
hello dear my left eye - 3.5 cyl - 1 and right eye - 4.25 cyl -0.5 plz suggest me deffrencal glasses and deffrencal glasses cyl value add or not
It is really important that you learn how to make informed choices for your own eyes. There are some guidelines, (see links in description) however in the end you will still need to make an educated guess and see how it goes.
I am sorry that Optometry let you down. They could have done better for you. I always ask them.
Mine is -1and -1.25 can I do it without Glasses
You can try, but be mindful of strain. The idea is never to push too hard.
Thanks I was doing it from past 3 weeks without Glasses. After blink I get like 0.5 or 0.75 vision. There's very low chance I get a perfect vision after blink.BtW it last until I blink again. Thanks 🫨👊
LONG TERM successful prevention is boring also. With all respect to you!
Skill in science, is measuring.
Hi Reannon, I have up attempting to NEGOTIATE, with an OD who will not help me. I hope you find an OD who will help your kids with myopia prevention.
Hey. Can you tell me that does doing active focus release ciliary spasm?
Sorry so late on the response, my notifications don't always come through. In my experience spasm is quite an obstacle to active focus. It is a good idea to try to relax the spasm then work on active focus rather than attempting to take on both at once. To release spasm make sure you address your near vision habits and correction use, then with distance vision time that actually engages your vision I think you will find the spasm resolves and active focus should follow.
@@Reannon5 i have -0.5 ciliary spasm in the morning and then it goes to around -1 at night. Basically i have pseudomyopia and not real myopia. Can i use +0.5 or +0.75 plus lenses at near work because my near work is alot. Distance vision is not releasing my spasm completely. And i cannot active focus because it is very hard to do so with ciliary spasm.
@@hqknowledge45 Personally I would not mess with plus lenses. It feels like trading one lens dependence for another. Besides which it can lead to other issues. I wonder if your close work set up can be addressed ?
@@Reannon5 i bought +0.5 plus lenses as i got to know that plus lenses help release ciliary spasm because they take some weight off our eyes when looking at close objects. And i found relief and it improved my vision. Using plus lenses for accommodative spasm helps
@@hqknowledge45 Well we all must make our own choices, glad it is working out for you. Best wishes
Myopia at 20/50 is preventable. But it is long term. The OD is no help to you.
A major reson your eyes WENT DOWN. THE REAL KILLER IS THAT FIRST MINUS LENS. YOU ARE A VICTIM OF THE MINUS, IN MY OPINION.
Strong Snellen checking is good.
I remember back in 1955 when I was first diagnosed with myopia how devastated I was. I truly felt condemned to a life of progressive myopia. I'm so glad that there is a program to reverse this.
Great video! I've been practicing AF since Oct of 2022 & this is the best explanation I've heard of pushing & pulling focus. Don't know how I missed it!
Please explain to me how you push and pull in your eye to create Active Focus
after blinking I can read the text clearly is this active focus or not
If it is often repeatable, then most likely yes. In time the blink isn't as necessary.
Dear Reannon, a lot of people are waiting for your report. Did you further improve your eyes? Thank you for your effort ma'am. I hope you're doing well.
Thanks! I know there are those looking for updates. Thing is, this channel was only really meant to reinforce and restate early concepts. I added my story for the sake of people wanting to hear how I got started... That said; I don't have much to report either. I have had some health related setbacks and complications. I have by no means given up, but I don't expect my current struggles to be to anyone's benefit were I to keep everyone up to date on what is going on with me.
@@Reannon5 Hi Reannon, I understand. Many EMers and other people I'm following are currently stalling or suffering a "collective burnout" if you will. Myself too. I'm either tired all the time or stressed. I'm lucky if I can get more than the absolutely mandatory 15-30 minutes of outdoor time at the moment. I haven't changed neither my norms nor my diffs in this entire year. I just can't muster the energy to make a reduction. These are weird times for sure. I do think things will get better again tho. We just gotta hang in there. Be well.
You have done a great job.
I always like BRAVE SOULS! You are doing the right thing, but the path is long.
I am making the same journey.
One of my eyes measures at -2.5 with centimeters. I ordered glasses with this same prescription, but I can't see 20/20 with them. Am I measuring wrong? Why do you think there is a discrepancy?
Measuring can take time to get good at, due mostly to the temptation to get your best measurements by using natural light and/or not being entirely in touch with the edge of blur. Further more ideally one never makes judgments about what correction one needs based on cms alone. How far short of 20/30 are you in the -2.5? Chances are you need about .25 more correction per line you aren't seeing
Hi norm brown. I use test lenses and Snellen Chart. That's more accurate. If a -1 D cleared the 20/20 lime, that is what I use.
hey. my doctor measured -0.5 in my eyes. that was without releasing my ciliary spasm. when i go out and play football etc, i can see around 20/20 20/25, please tell me if i can wear -0.25 glasses to release my ciliary spasm in the distance? then when i can see clearly at -0.25 glasses, i will take those glasses off, right?
What do your measurements say? In your situation I wouldn't use correction at all, that would be an excellent way to lock in spasm and then cause lens induced myopia... My advice: don't buy what they are selling. Do sort out releasing spasm and address habits to avoid lock up in the future.
@@Reannon5 yes when i do everything without my glasses, i feel strainless. But when i wear the -0.25 glasses even in distance vision, my eyes feel somehow strained, and when i take them off, vision is blurrier than before. Can you tell me in how much time lens induced myopia occurs? I am unable to do active focus as well, because my ciliary muscles are locked up everytime
please tell me how do i release my ciliary spasm. if i go for a walk in sunlight for about 30-40 mins, my ciliary spasm still does not release. but when i play like football in sunlight, it releases. but i cant play football everyday. and my eyesight is -0.5 with i think -0.25 cylinder value. but when my ciliary spasm clears up, i can almost see 20/20 without glasses.
It's a matter of engaging your vision at a distance but in a relaxed way. Keep trying things The fact that it is releasing during football is a great indication. But the fact that it isn't releasing during walks means two things: you are not likely as engaged with your stimulus and also that you might want to check your close habits
Prevent myopia does exist. I thank you and Jake for your efforts. You are highly intelligent, and understand.
Thank you. Gonna do that one.
Hi, thanks for the video. Any tips on how to release ciliary spasm if that is the first step? Thank you!
During close up use diffs and take lots of distance vision breaks. As much as possible do relaxing distance vision. Ciliary should start letting go. It might go in little bits and relock easily at first but it should release if you are consistent.
@@Reannon5 good!
Doing this at 20/60. Then success!

What now. I hope you can help her get out of it!
Good effort. I continue to do it. Snellen is now 20/40.
I appreciate your efforts. Made it from 20/60 to 20/40. Success is possible, if you have great resolve.
You have done a great job. If at 20/50, you could have gotten out of it.
Do i have focus for a long time?i i focus focuw for a long time it starts stinging and then water comes rolling down my eyes and see bit clear. Can you explain how should i or someone should look at a object
You should look at the object in a relaxed way, try to notice details. If you feel strain switch focus, blink etc. However strain should be very minimal as long as there is only a small and manageable amount of blur.
@@Reannon5 thankyou for the advice
@Reannon5 Please tell me exactly how to do it? I can't figure out how to do active focusing. Thank you.
It isn't a thing you do really. Active focus boils down to looking with the intent to see well and the biology takes over from there.
I still struggle with AF, able to get it with each eye individually, but not as easy with both. It seems like trying explain to someone how to breath....you just do it. Tough to explain.
Alright mam
So, how is your eyesight nowadays? I see most of the EM students stoped to make videos 2-3 years ago, after all that hype.
Well to be completely honest making videos is a thankless load of work and I for one never actually wanted to do anything of the sort. But I felt I could help so many people get off on the right foot and avoid a heap of early mistakes and then they wouldn't have to learn the hard way... But I have recorded the bigger points I felt needed another voice and have not been inclined to continue working on the channel (I'll leave that at that) As for my own vision I have had some set backs; not so much stuck as one step forward one step back and don't have much to report there as far a progress is concerned between health stuff and NY winters. That said, I still have better vision than I have had since like 1998 so over all my eyesight is great, thanks for asking!
@@Reannon5 Thank you. I started at 20/60. That is where we all should start.
A good image. SUCCESS.
Minus 4 is a difficult level to recover from. I have been told the same story.
Hello I have a question. My original power is SPH (-1.75, -2.5) and CY (-0.5, -0.5). While measuring power from endmyopia calculator for my left eye, my astigmatism blur comes first, so I am confused about my edge of blur. Should I just consider the first astigmatism blur or move a bit backward for spherical blur. But I am also confused about the spherical blur as the astigmatism blur became dominant.
Honestly, pick one standard and stick with it. Use your corrected vision snellen results too to help you establish trends and double check your measurements. After you have tracked trends for a while and across all three measurement criteria you will learn all you need to know about your vision.
hey Reannon, A question about Active Focus to you, I have approx -2.25 in both eyes my normalized is -2.00, but I could barely see the 20/20 line with good lighting! Now when I go for my walk things appear to be super clear that it does not give the motive to active focus, however when there is a text that is far away that is the only way to notice the blur and do active focus. Why I say that is because in the beginning I was using my -1.5 glasses to do Active focus and yes thing were blurry but I was doing active focus a lot more, while with the -2.00 glasses I some times forget about active focus at all!! So I was thinking to instead I get a -1.75 where thing gets a little more blurry buy they at least give me the motive to active focus when I go for a walk, and I'd still keep my -2.00 glasses as normalized for other things! so what do you think of this?
If you can barely see the 20/20 line in good lighting I would really recommend reducing. To be honest it sounds to me like you might be a bit blur adapted. Ultimately it is your decision what to do going forward but I don’t think a clarity reset would be a bad idea. I will add a reminder that clarity is a good thing and you shouldn’t feel like if you are not pushing your eyes your entire walk everyday you aren’t going to succeed. It is ok to just enjoy your vision and not constantly be thinking I need to active focus. Obviously you still need to do some active focus and engage with your visual stimulus but once people have been doing this for a while you do come to a point where you can be more casual about it.
I do agree with you! But since we are wearing our normalized most of the time and we are not doing active focus continuously then I think at some point we do get blur adaptation! The reason why I asked you this is because I once watched a video for Jake responding to someone and his answer was like “doing active focus with a little bit of blur is the same as doing active focus with a lot of blur even if you do not bring it to 20/20” and just like you said he reminded us about blur adaptation! I might consider reducing it soon because now it does not matter a lot because of winter! But when I was doing active focus with -1.5 I was able to see things really clearly! So I thought -1.75 would be somewhere in the middle plus it makes the blur a little bit more visible to actually do active focus a little more and notice the difference between before active focus and after active focus!@@Reannon5
