Beautiful work Greg. I really do admire your persistence my friend.
@@nightscapeimages.richard Thanks Richard, I wasn't going to let it defeat me 😂
You got the shots in the end Greg. Well done. 😎
@@geoffsharpe6456 Thanks Geoff, was actually fun chasing something a bit different
All beautiful shots Greg. My fovourite is the timelapse at the lake Clifton with the comet the MW and the clouds movement. Congratulation for the music that give breath at the video.
Thanks Massimo, I'm enjoying having an extra camera body - means more opportunities for timelapses. We seem to have had a lot of cloud towards the eve of this season. They add some challenges but also some interest.
Great images Greg. Well done mate.
@@michaellillis3086 Thanks Michael, much appreciated 🙌
Wow, that was 100% worth persevering, Greg. Awesome stuff. I was going to say I loved the pano with he comet by the walkway. And then I was going to say how much I loved the timelapse of the comet setting behind the lighthouse. And then you went for the full KO with that pano of the comet, MW and lighthouse - I think that may have been my favourite image seen anywhere of the comet. Amazing stuff- thanks for sharing.
@@nightscapejournals Thanks so much Paul, I had to play the long game to deliver that KO 😂
Nice one❤. I love the dedication. I tried twice - I disturbed a tramp on a bridge and was foiled by clouds the first time. Seccond attempt i got it, with a 'thrilling' foreground of hay bales... Maybe next time, eh? 🤔🤣
@@JauneMacReady Glad you got it the second time, people initially laughed at Van Gogh and his hay bails 🤔🤣
It's reassuring to know I wasn't the only photographer who suffered from cloud attacks! I appreciate that you don't only show your successful outings, Greg, and I almost let out a little cheer for you each time you have a fruitful session.
@@dougingram4519 Thanks Doug, appreciate the moral support 😊. Persistence was definitely required with this one.
Oh, by the way - wy are you not using the 3-way geared head instead of the wedge and then just a normal ball head on top? Would be lighter, right? Only asking since I´m considering a similar setup myself.
@@MartinFransson Yes, a normal ball head would be considerably lighter than the 3 way geared head but I love the geared head for panos. For each focal length I know how many turns of the dial, horizontal and vertical, to get the 30% overlap. I've noticed Leofoto have a geared head which is nearly half the weight - but quite pricy.
Great to see a new video from you! 🙂I have a bit of a hard time finding opportunities to get out there myself at the moment so I have to enjoy the night sky through other people. That´s some serious dedication chasing the comet all those nights!
@@MartinFransson Thanks Martin, I've slowed down a bit the last month too - the summer months are more challenging in the southern hemisphere with short nights but I do enjoy getting out to shoot in just shirt sleaves 👌
Hi Greg, I admire your persistence with capturing the comet! I have struggled to get out lately! Great images mate!
@@nightscapeodyssey.mattclarke Thanks Matt, I think we might all be catching our breathe at this time of year.
Great video Greg and highlights the hurdles we all face chasing the stars...and comets in this case. Nice to see you were rewarded with some fantastic images 😊
@@inefekt Thanks Trev, capturing the night sky certainly presents a unique set of challenges but as I'm sure you'll agree, the rewards keep us coming back for more.
Looks great Greg. Kicking myself for waiting for evening shots only. Happy with what I got but looks like I missed out on some great opportunities.
@@MrJomoboy I only got the one morning opportunity but glad I grabbed it, definitely seemed brighter than the outbound journey.
I admire your dedication for getting some great images
@@stephencarter9192 Thanks Stephen, think I got a bit obsessed for a while 😂
@ indeed. I dread to think how many km and air miles you’ve clocked up this year.
@@stephencarter9192not too many air miles (just the Indonesia trip) but certainly a few road miles 🤔. Fortunately I have a few like minded astro buddies who I'm able to share many trips.
Nice set of images and great video Greg
@@ViratShah Thanks Virat, was fun having something different to shoot
Wow! Greg! Absolutely cleaned up, totally deserved as you certainly put those long hours into acquisition and processing! Awesome stuff and so heartening to hear people really starting to take notice of light pollution as a health and environmental issue.
@@AstroRoad Thanks Domenic, it was a big night and I was honoured to have even been shortlisted. It's encouraging to see so many of the country regions starting to take astrotourism seriously.
Really well deserved to you Greg, and all the winners in the various categories. I'm sure you'll find a way to put that A74 to good use in the coming months. I reckon that Sony 14mm f1.8 is an excellent lens.
@@nightscapeimages.richard Thanks Richard, looking forward to putting the Sony combo thru it's paces, especially for some timelapses.
Very cool, well done and won Greg...and Virat as well. Big Thumbs.
@@Yipmanhands Thankyou, it's been a big year and it's very nice to finish it off with this type of recognition 🙌
Amazing, congrats mate

Oh man the picture of Milky Way that you shot is amazing👍👍
@@dendyristiawan4766 Thanks Dendy, Milkyway nightscape is what I love to shoot, and Mt Bromo provides a surreal foreground 👌
Congratulations Greg on the prize winning entries. The Sony a74 with the 14mm f/1.8 GM lens is a great combination. I have a Ha+Visible astro modification on my a74 and I'm very happy with it. Enjoy the great prize. 😎👌👍
@@geoffsharpe6456 Thanks so much Geoff, can't wait to try out the 14mm - Nikon doesn't have that focal length in primes 👌
Congratulations Greg on the wins and a big thank you for capturing the event for those of us who couldn't make it.
@@paulharrison8579 Thanks Paul, and congrats on getting shortlisted - tried to include your image in the vlog but there was too many people standing around it 😉
What fantastic recognition for all your hard work, Greg. I mean, it's not really work when you enjoy it, but you've put so much into your art and it's great to see it rewarded.
@@dougingram4519 Thanks Doug, the recognition is definitely a bonus, but exploring new places and pushing my own creativity is my main motivation
Such an epic place! And very other worldly in feel from the images and footage.

Congratulations Greg! Some fun connections here - Saul lives about 10 houses away from me AND I dropped a camera and lens combination similar to that you won (in my case an A9 with 14mm 1.8) into a salt lake a few weeks ago doing astro 😂. Fortunately well insured! BTW, you should quickly come to LOVE that lens.
@@adampoll4977 Thanks Adam, Saul and his brother certainly do a lot for the photography community in Perth. Looking forward to giving the Sony gear a run, and compare it to the Nikon gear I'm more familiar with. I've done plenty of wandering around in the dark at the salt lakes, they aren't very forgiving to camera gear - glad to hear you were insured👍
@@GrowPhotography I'm getting a loan of a Sigma ART 14mm 1.4 lens which will be a potential replacement for my Sony 1.8. It's a beast of a lens, so we'll see how it turns out ;)
@@adampoll4977 I've heard good things about the Sigma - unfortunately Sigma aren't available on Nikon but now having a Sony opens up some possibilities 35mm art maybe 🤔

Nice summary of the night's events and congrats again on your well deserved awards. They might ban Virat and yourself from future competitions because that's twice in a row you two have cleaned up 😅
@@inefekt Thanks mate, but I feel the need to point out you are deservedly cleaning up on the nightscape category (and people's choice since Virat's cricket team didn't come in to vote 🤣)
@@GrowPhotography Thanks! I'm surprised Virat didn't show up. And it was a nice surprise to get the people's choice award after hearing from several people that I had won the nightscape one ☺ I wonder if they will have a comet category for the next comp??

Yes, I use the DJI Pocket 3 for 90% of my vlogging - keeps life simple 😊. Timelapse sequences are captured on my main cameras (Nikon Z6 / Z30)
Interesting to compare the difference between the landscape with the volcano and the one with the waterfall and the green forest, two totally different natural lanscapes. I hope no problems with motorcycles.
And to think they are only about only about 30km apart. No problem with the bikes, because I was only a passenger - not driver 😂
Stunning location, Greg - the sort of place that looks like it needs to be seen to be believed! Think I might need either laser surgery or contact lenses before I head there though - looks like a nightmare for those of us on specs!! Looking forward to part 5.
