The Gascoyne Odyssey - Part 2: Kennedy Range National Park

- This is Part 2 of a epic road trip exploring the amazing landscapes and night skies of the Gascoyne region of Western Australia with photography buddy Virat Shah.
We covered some 4000km over 8 days and managed 7 consecutive nights of shooting nightscapes in what must surely be some of the darkest skies on the planet.
This episode covers days 2 and 3, driving from Carnarvon to Gascoyne Junction, then scouting and shooting the amazing landscapes and pristine Bortle 1 skies of the Kennedy Range National Park.
A big thankyou to AstrotourismWA and Gascoyne Junction Pub and Tourist Park for supplying 2 night's accommodation as part of Virat's Astrofest prize haul - and for Virat sharing his prize with me :-)

Hi Greg & Virat, I have just watched this episode of your road trip and the scenery is pretty spectacular for nightscape foregrounds. You have some great compositions of the landscapes. I'm impressed with your results. 😁👍😎
@@geoffsharpe6456 Thanks so much Geoff, have to say we were very pleasantly surprised by the Kennedy Range National Park. A return trip is definitely on the cards.
Hope you have part 3 queued ready to go as well 🤣
Thanks, Greg & Virat, for another wonderful video diary instalment. Your images, both the night and day ones, were exceptional. I was excited to see that we still have Parts 3 & 4 to look forward to.
@@dougingram4519 Thanks Doug, part 3 now in progress - I need to get more efficient at this video editing stuff 😂
Great video ❤ loved it. But almost missed it. Flippin RUclips notifications!
Absolutely stunning images, both in the day, and at night.
Oh, those flies! I forgot about those little buggers.
@@JauneMacReady Thankyou so much, and speaking of missing it, apologies for missing your comment 🙏
Wow, this might be my favorite video from you so far Greg! What a splendid adventure and dedication from the 2 of you. Only a short amount of time to scout at the first location and getting such results, that's craftsmanship. I think I agree with both of you that my favorite location was the gorge. Wow... just wow 👌. Keep it up!
@@StarScaperPhoto Appreciate the feedback Jeroen, many thanks. We had so many possibilities and so little time out heads were spinning but happy with what we managed to capture - I'm sure your experience at La Palma was similar
@@GrowPhotography yes, that was definately similar indeed. The best position to be in nevertheless, right?
@@StarScaperPhoto For sure, and it means we just have to return again one day.
Fantastic trip and adventure, Greg. Some amazing foreground locations - almost alien landscapes. I was a little nervous about that dirt road out when it started raining! 😬 Commitment indeed, and well worth it for the stunning shots. Great video and thanks for sharing. 👍
Many thanks Paul, we took it very easy and the roads were in pretty good condition
Oh, longer than I thought! Really great photos and video. Making me really consider delving I to astrophotography ❤
Nice drone footage too 😃👍
@@JauneMacReady yes this was a long one, thought about splitting it in 2 but then decided my audience can concentrate for 30mins 😂
@@GrowPhotography 🤣
Sensational work again Greg and Virat. You boys are killing it with this road trip. Looking forward to more to come. I hope you were able to catch up on some sleep along the way though.
@@nightscapeimages.richard Thanks Richard, finding time to sleep while also needing to cover long distances was definitely a challenge on this trip. Fortunately we were able to share the driving to keep things safe.
I though I was watching your channel Richard.
I am around Greg's age.
Very inspiring what old guys Can produce.
Another good role model.
Going to Bortel 2 9 August. A farmer allowed unlimited access to his 50x50 km farm 🎉
spectacular images from you both....surely some winners in this year's Astrofest among those...would be hard to choose which ones to enter! 😊
@@inefekt I always have trouble choosing Trev but this year may be a little harder. Will need to coordinate with @viratshah so we aren't both entering identical images 🤣
Stunning images in the gorges.
@@denisesavage2382 Thanks Denise, we had a lot of fun creating them.
@@GrowPhotography yay!! And in such a great part of the world too.
Well that was epic guys and you both captured some amazing scenes and not just Astro your shots driving in to your locations were sublime it’s a terrific landscape and you have both made the most of it, one day I’ll get up there.
@@carlreid4161 Thanks Carl, it is amazing country and closer than the Pilbara / Kimberley but you do still have to cover some big distances.
Hoping to release part 3 this weekend
@@GrowPhotography look forward to seeing the next instalment 👍
Epic video Greg 😎 👍 ❤
Love the full disclosure on the Panos 😊
Keep up the good work
Thanks Grant, it's always hard to know how much info to disclose. Some viewers want it, others don't care.
All that effort really shows on the amazing pictures you capture at those gorgeous locations.
Be blessed with a long healthy life full of joy.
Thanks for letting us travel along with you.
@@josealeman8082 Thanks for watching Jose, effort definitely contributed to reward on this trip.
Such an amaizng vlog and so good to live through the memories of these epic 2 nights at Kennedy Ranges..
You have captured some out of the world images and editing is so good.. the 10mm LAOWA is looking amazing too.. Hope you are printing few images from this trip
@@ViratShah Thanks Virat, I think you hit the nail on the head with the memories. As much as vlogging adds to the workload on the night, having the memories and night captured is so good to look back on.
I had to look twice if I was not watching Richard's channel.
Images are brilliant 😊🎉
@@etienneswart8700 Haha, I think that is as much a compliment to Richard as myself as much of what I know is courtesy of his channel @nightscapeimages.richard

Richard and the late Alyn Wallace.
Have tough me all I know.
Now learning from you.
Greetings from Johannesburg South Africa
@@etienneswart8700 Very true, and I feel honoured to even be mentioned in the same paragraph 😊.
@@GrowPhotography
I watched you from when you had 50 subscription.
Proud that we in our senior years can still chase the youngsters. 😂
@@etienneswart8700 Appreciate the support, growth on RUclips is quite a grind - fortunately I'm not relying on it for an income 😂
wow, the image at 20.37 is spectacular 👍
Thanks Stephen, I also shot the same composition with the 35mm focal length - the detail visible on a big screen is insane. Just can't beat those Bortle 1 skies.
OMG Greg your timelaps is excellent 🎉was it in camera with your Nikon.
@@etienneswart8700 Thanks so much Etienne. The Nikon does a commendable job in camera with the timelapse but I find I can enhance the results by bulk processing the RAWs in NX studio then bringing them back together as a timelapse in Davinci Resolve.
Great spectacular and interesting video Greg, very nice shots and location.
Great adventure.
May i ask about Laowa 10mm. lens, is it for lanscape or for stars.
@@massimobollini4622 many thanks Massimo. My original intension was to use the Laowa for timelapses but have also been using it for astro and landscapes with great results. Hoping to do a video on it once I get thru parts 3 & 4 but I have another two coming up so it may get further delayed.
Great video Greg, you both must have been struggling for sleep by this time
@@paulcooperphotography Thanks Paul, trying to operate off 2 hours sleep in the car was a bit of a struggle
Awesome work Guys and Yes it's been Cold But I think it's because I've been leaving too many windows Open on my computer! lol
@@johncarter591 hmm, that probably contributes to global warming so may have the opposite effect 🤣
@@GrowPhotography 🤣
You can definitely see the difference between the Z8 and Z6 sensor capability 😮
@@etienneswart8700 That is still a work in progress for Virat. He also has a z6ii but his Z8 is currently back with Nikon as he is having trouble with a noisy sensor. Hopefully they will fix or replace. It may partly be the higher resolution but others he's compared it to seem better.
@@GrowPhotography
I bought a fujifilm XT5
Images are very good.
Compared the stacked images with my D750 and D500 very difficult to see the difference.
The XT5 has the edge if you pixel peep.
What an awesome video Greg! Your guys shots are absolutely amazing! Thank you for taking us on other great adventure! Both of you guys are so inspiring!!!
Thanks so much, creating inspiration is definitely a major motivation for having the channel
