Why BETTER MAN Deserves Your Attention (Movie Review)
Musical director Michael Gracey has teamed up with British pop legend Robbie Williams to deliver "Better Man", an unconventional and bold new musical biopic about Williams' life where he portrays himself as a CGI ape. Does this creative choice ring true within the film? Does the film as a whole stick the landing? Does it stand apart from other musical biopics from the last few years?

a 60%? i dunno man i give it a 2/10
This movie is magical. Those mean girls & bully boys over on TikTok bashing this movie without watching it are the ones losing out. They know nothing.
🎉🎉🎉❤
The Salem's lot Barlow makeup was far scarier.
Im glad to see someone covering this! I just watched it and damn. I've forgotten what was special about movies.
Thank god you exist! A saint! Finally someone who goes to check Better Man before talking sh*t on him. Better Man is a 5✩ experience, really an emotional rollercoaster. I loved the movie!!!! watched it twice already ❤️ even if you don't know who robbie is you will enjoy it! A must! Better Man is an amazing movie. US peeps, just give the movie a chance. Judge later. Lots of love guys ♡ LOVED YOUR REVIEW! ❤ Loved your review!
Agree. Horrible. Pure Hollywood garbage. Left the theater after 30 min. What an insult to my intelligence
This movie deserves more and more love. The fact it does not come from a powerhouse might seem an obstacle when it comes to awards season and more exposure. but it has made slowly its way up into the hearts of those who watched it. A breath of fresh air.
Yeah, I feel like when a Horror movie is not that great. They fill it with sex scenes and naked chicks to keep the audience entertained. I figured that’s why most people think it was a ‘great film’ 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was honestly such a great review, the editing and commentary really feel like it's from a big youtube channel! So well done!! Can't wait to see where you go from here!!
@@lucydavies3005 Thank you so much!
Exactly, just saw it yesterday and it was a blast
I concur. I was rating it a 6 out of 10. It had some great elements and could have been a spectacular movie but sadly fell short. I did actually like Ms Depps performance and thought she carried the whole movie. I understand why Eggers went for an authentic Romanian nobleman look, but like Coppola, he could have had the Count transform- maybe into the more classic Nosferatu/demonic look at feeding times?? Also, the film was nowhere near as graphic in the bloodletting as it should have been. This might have transformed it into a much better movie?
This analysis is so good and well done!
I felt the same as you did, really didn't know what to expect of this one and now I'm telling everyone to give it a shot. Such a surprisingly honest and entertaining movie. Great review, Mitchell!
I’ve been looking forward to it. Can’t wait
Flowmania! 🐈⬛
I think alone stands as reason why it won the Golden Globe. Critics see it for so many artistic and creative reasons. I can’t wait to watch it!
The peak of the mountain is the end of the journey. The end of life... The highest you can achieve. That is why I think the whale is alive along with the fact the deers announced another flood coming.
just watched it today and oh my god it was so boring. sure, visually it was stunning, but i just couldn’t get invested in the story or the characters. when characters were in danger, instead of feeling scared i just felt annoyed at the characters for being in those situations. idk if this is because of the writing or the acting, it just felt very… empty? though everyone else seemed to like it, so idk
I like to consider the 2009 movie to be the second best adaptation, not only because of its faithfulness to the source material but also because of how unapologetically dark it is (especially for a Disney film, which Muppet Christmas Carol also is), along with other things.
Movie is pure A$$.
the movie was the biggest s**t ever .... copy paste from 10 vampire movies ... robert is a kid with money who can put some scenes also inspired from other movies.. nothing new... a disaster
I too have issues with the film such as the new redesign of Count Orlock
This movie sucked
He ..the. Armoire looks like a clown
Agreed. Still a nice film though.
I loved The Lighthouse and The Northman, this is easily his worst film yet. Very disappointed
Whos is mediocre?. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is mediocre not Nosferatu.
No... Nosferatu is just bad 😂
Thank you!
Right. Boring arty movie.
The acting in this movie is completely over the top. Too much exposition in the dialogues. The most disappointing vampire design I've ever seen (I know it's based on Vlad the Impaler and Dracula's book description blah blah blah, but this is not an excuse to come with a villain that looks like Tom Selleck).
Tom Selleck or Frank Zappa ? LOL 😂😂😂
Yes, the moustache didn't work for me either, especially with no fangs
My experience as well. First half or so was strong. Orlok was initially very creepy and his voice was fantastic. Second half was more meandering. Depp and Dafoe gave off balanced performances, rest of the cast was strong. Ending came out of nowhere and was not very satisfying.
only let down more remarkable than this one, was the over-hyped and completely useless Oppenheimer.
Paid to see this twice. it was spectacular
You need to watch more movies
@@jimbeam2299 or maybe they just have good taste?
@@eoghanclark165 obviously not if they think Nosferatu was spectacular
@@jimbeam2299 hard disagree. Gorhic horror clearly ain't for everyone, but this was a spectacular rendition. Were there not enough explosions for you?
@eoghanclark165 what do "explosions" have to do with anything? Also lol Gothic horror. How are you not embarrassed typing that out? The movie sucked. You're just easily impressed because you have bad taste
Noaferatu 1922 is one my favorites horror movies ever. I really loved Eggrs version of The vampire.
I edited the first part of this out because I think it was too mean to the creator of this video, who clearly just loves movies and has their own interpretation of the genre and what it means for something to be good. Everyone has their own tastes I guess. Here's the not mean part of the OG message. Nobody here or in the comics is cool or different or edgy for saying that they didn't like it, go jack off to saltburn for the 20th time, it's a gift to be able to immerse yourself and then appreciate a movie for what it is, not everybody has it and that's okay too I guess. It was, dare I fucking say a great movie. Every single negative opinion is wrong and I will die on this hill, change my mind.
"Turning red" for grown-ups
I walked out of the theathers after the second hour. It drags too long. I felt as if it was like demonic propaganda with Shakespeare love story in it. Every half hour The woman kept being sodomized by demonic entity vampire, like some crack addict. It was garbage. I had to walk out of this movie. Most movies i have seen this year were horrible. The last time I go to the movies with my gf. Better well spent money going to the museums.
Yea I think that was my first time walking out of a theatre . Slugged through too much
So Robert Eggers was faithful to the book. Because Bram Stoker's Dracula is very dragging too.
@@nome3296 its not based on the book its based on the silent film of the same name
Shit was a gothic love story snoozfest. Most un-monsterly monster movie I’ve ever seen really
Exactly!
i felt the same way however i think it may get better on subsequent rewatches. this is pure speculation however
I wouldn’t say that it disappointed me but I felt like it went on for “too long” Regardless, Eggers is one of the best directors working. Every shot literally looks like a painting
Orlock looks like Borat with a receding hairline and bad hygiene.
This is the first time in my entire life I actually thought a vampire was scary.
Wow . Dude wasn’t spooky at all lol he looked more like count chocula from the cereal lol
@@SlicesUSA we get that you don't like the movie. you don't have to reply under comments that don't share your opinion.
@@SlicesUSA lolo I was harsher
I definitely enjoyed the mystique of this vampire especially in the castle. The suspense was at its peak in the castle but I didn’t find it scary. 30 Days of Night was the first time I thought vampires were scary. Definitely watch that if you want to watch some vicious vampires and different type of brutality and horror
@@SlicesUSA I agree. Most vampire movies are scarier than this one, see Herzog’s, Coppola’s, and Murnau’s. Probably even Love at First Bite😂
I didn't like the look of this orlok, he looked goofy. The iconic rat-like creature of the silent film will always be the Nosferatu.
So I guess Dracula's original look in the novel is goofy? You do know Orlok is pretty much Dracula? Good way to show your ignorance.
He looked like Vlad the in-paler which is what Dracula is based on and supposed to look like
@@EmlynBoyleby todays standards yes. Which is why no Dracula ever looks like the original depiction. Shut your pretentious trap.
@@EmlynBoyle to be fair, this Orlok doesn't look much like Dracula from the novel either
@@odtheman1 no, he did not, look at Tepes' images from 16-17 century and you'll see
People were laughing with lame dialogues in theatre when I saw it on Xmas day, most of things said by Dafoe. Have to agree with that. The movie offers nothing new from the Coppola’s film in the 90s, minus Annie Lennox’s awesome song. Lily oh Lily, you tried very hard but it’s as believable as my highschool play. She ain’t it. I’ll try to forget that scene when the Abomination was feeding on Nicholas Hoult. The makeup team had no budget I guess. One good thing I liked was the art di. Robert Eggers owns this B&W creepy theme. Oh Emma Corrin gave the best acting from the whole cast.
@@snowdrop3988 first off Coppolas film was Dracula which while a similar overall story to Nosferatu, it has a completely different tone and atmosphere. Saying this offers nothing new makes no sense since this was the first Nosferatu movie since 1979. And I don’t see any issues with Lilys performance. She was put in the toughest positions of the movie and did well. That and Skarsgård as Orlok.
Disgusting take 😂. I bet you consider Barbie the single greatest achievement in cinema. Lily was born for a role like this. Nothing about her role wasn’t convincing, on the flipside, she disappears into this role. As does Hault, who perfectly captures the passion of a loving husband and the terror of a having crossed paths with Orloc. The story has high stakes. I cared about the characters. The violence is shocking but not mindless. The evil of Orloc is felt by every single character on screen. He is a real threat. Needless to say, this is a stunning movie. The cinematography is incredible, the tone is immersive. The dialogue may have been funny to you but I didn’t find it funny. This film is set in the 1800s, many superstitions were believed back then. So, considering the context, the dialogue made sense. It’s perfectly alright to dislike the film but to consider the most atmospheric, polished, stunning horror film of the last decade to be “lame” just means that your opinion doesn’t hold any weight.
Troll bait 😂
@@anthonysongorov6305 stop being so butthurt over movie opinions its embarassing
That’s right. Don’t disrespect the horror genre by calling it a horror movie
@@mampuful disrespect the horror genre. How does this movie disrespect the horror genre? And why wouldn’t this classify as a horror movie?
@@JT-zy2ftbecause it was more of gothic Shakespeare story rather than a monster
@@SlicesUSAEggers makes period pieces movies. I thought gone were the days of horror movies having such narrow definitions. So if they were talking in modern English as opposed to the English of the time period it was taking place and we throw in a few more jump scares would it then be considered horror?
One word for all the haters…patience. Everyone needs a sledgehammer to the face the entire time of any film. These films have the most epic stories but also dive inward and are poignant. And as far as directors go Robert Eggers is one of the best and most thrilling working today
Agreed.
I appreciate the movie from a filmmaking standpoint, but the issue is a screenplay so dedicated to watching characters try to figure out whats going on, when we in the audience already have seen Count Orlock and know what’s he’s all about by the end of the first third. This makes for a tedious experience.
Pt 2. To add, this structure worked in The Witch where although we see a witch in the beginning, there is still a level of mystery and unpredictability surrounding how this will continue to affect the family (also the mystery of black Philip throughout the film)... contrast this to count orlock who straight up states his intentions early on, and all you’re left with is a mustached balkan who is down bad for Lily rose depp. Where’s the horror.
I enjoy slow films, and nosferatu isn't bad because it is slow, it's badness makes the slowness unenjoyable
No payoff and I didn't feel the weight of the tragedy at the end. Tbh the woman didn't really have many positive traits going for her so I was mainly rooting for the husband. You can't blame slow pace for excusing the critics. It's just not a rewatchable movie unless you want to study a few cool shots
After seeing how pathetic The Northman was, I’m not surprised by poor reviews. “Visually stunning” = EMPTY.
See, I felt the same way about The Northman! The movie was beautiful and stunning, but the overall story was less engaging and enthralling. I think Eggers is a brilliant filmmaker from a visual and technical standpoint, I just feel if he paired with a stronger writer, his output would be stronger and more well rounded.
Well said, I totally agree.
@@MoviesWithMitchell I feel the same way about Eggers. He's a decent visual filmmaker but a mediocre writer. If he starts working with scriptwriters who are actually talented, his movies will be a better experience
What is the mean spirited you mentioned? Genuinely interested. Saw it tonight. So disappointed.
What was disappointing about it?
i think people are only praising this film cus there were literly no good films this year
You’re insane.
This was one of the best years for horror/thrillers ever. Strange Darling, Heretic, Terrifier 3, Alien Romulus, Oddity, Late night with the Devil, Longlegs, Cuckoo, Mads, Azrael, Exhuma……I could go on and on.
