Hiking to the summit of the Lysec (1381 m) | Veľká Fatra (Slovakia)
A 2-minute overview of our hike in the Veľká Fatra towards the summit of the Lysec (1,381 m).
On July 28, 2023, we parked our car on the Kašová parking to start (12:20 pm) our hike towards the summit of the Lysec, a mountain of the green Veľká Fatra mountain range. We followed the green-yellow path for a 2-hour hike to the top (14:20 pm), where it was very windy, so we could only enjoy the view for a short time. In the end, we were quite lucky as the heavy rain zone passed us at a few hundreds of meters, so we only had some light rain. We descended following the blue trail and arrived back at the parking lot at 16:30 pm.

Salzgittersteig - Großer Hafner climb interrupted due to unstable weather (Maltatal - Carinthia)

A 2-minute overview of our hike through Maltatal, one of the most beautiful destinations of Carinthia (Kärnten - Austria). Despite a good weather forecast, we had to interrupt our climb to Kattowitzer Hütte and Großer Hafner (3,076 m) due to the formation of unstable clouds around the Hochalmspitze. And in the end, that proved to be a good decision … But we had enough video material to give you...

      Veel plezier alvast, en hou het vooral veilig! Vooral belangrijk om de meteomodellen er op na te kijken (o.a. shmu.sk - ALADIN modellen) want de voorbije weken waren er opnieuw zeer ernstige incidenten in de Vysoké Tatry die verband hielden met het weer. Wij zitten nu in Zuid-Polen en Zapadné Tatry, vanaf volgende week opnieuw twee weken in de Vysoké Tatry 😍.

      Hi Stuart, thanks for your message. All the relevant times are mentioned in the description. We reached the summit at 12:45 (8 hours climbing, including breakfast and breaks on the way up). Starting at 3am is fine for sure, it gives you more room to fully enjoy the climb and to have a relaxed feeling. Good luck and enjoy your trip! All the best!

    How old are kids and do they need much hiking experience?

    • @ThroneofThorns_official
      @ThroneofThorns_official 5 месяцев назад

      At that time, they were 7, 9 & 12 years old. Regarding the experience for kids, I would say ‘yes’, certainly when you would do it in 1 day. You have the climb >2,000 altimeters, for us it took about 15 hours in total (up & down). The upper climb (via ferrata) is not so difficult, but you should be very careful, certainly with kids. I secured the youngest one with an additional rope. Most details of our trip are listed in the description, but don’t hesitate to contact us if you have further questions. All the best!

    The Priečne sedlo, is via ferrata the only path, or an option parallel to regular path? In video (1:04) it looks that lot of people there are going up without any via ferrata gear.

    • @hikesineurope
      @hikesineurope 6 месяцев назад

      Indeed, there is a route with iron chains wich you can take without via ferrata gear. The via ferrata is a bit more adventurous but also more safe at the same time with kids I think. All the best!

    Wow, your kids are going to grow up a real mountaineers. :) Watching them on vertical cliff is scary, though. What was the rescue action for? What went wrong?

    • @hikesineurope
      @hikesineurope 6 месяцев назад

      Apparently there are quite some interventions by medical teams on this via ferrata trail, that’s what a local told us. I don’t know what happened on that day, but many fire fighters and two helicopters were active at that moment. For via ferrata, preparation is ‘key’! When you aren’t 100% sure that you can complete the trail, even when you doubt about 1 single section, you shouldn’t start. I think thats the main message. The Burgenklettersteig is very long, at least when you go for the 3 sections (we only did the 2nd one), so exhaustion is probably one of the reasons why people are getting rescued … cheers! Thomas

    • @edgk490
      @edgk490 6 месяцев назад

      @@hikesineurope That's the confusing part. How one knows before that the particular ferrara will be doable? I am now exploring options on top of Garda lake, almost all ferratas in [google maps] have reviews of both being "easy" and "difficult" at the same time.

    • @hikesineurope
      @hikesineurope 6 месяцев назад

      All via ferratas have a difficulty level, mostly mentioned on the Schall or Hüsler scale, depending on the region. Certainly check those out on Google. In our case, with our youngest daughter, we only do trails with a difficulty level C (Schall scale) or lower. I do protect our youngest daugter with a climbing rope (simultaneous progression), but especially on horizontal sections, save protection is more difficult when the kids are small and cannot get enough grip. Most via ferratas have detailed maps with difficulty levels for each section of the trail (you can see such a map on the video that we will post tomorrow - Martinske hole). Most of them are also available online. Always try to find the map and YT-videos to check the track to get the best possible impression beforehand. Good luck! 👍

    • @hikesineurope
      @hikesineurope 8 месяцев назад

      Thank you very much. In our honest opinion, we categorise the Rysy (Slovak side) as a relatively easy mountain, but the personal perception depends on the experience/physics. But when you are used to hike in the mountains, I don’t think you will experience any difficulties. Just bare in mind that it’s quite crowdy 🫣.

    Very pristine and calming! Amazingly, the Hohe Fenn are not known in the Americas, but I'm my case I read about them in a travel book and after seeing a couple of pictures, I totally became fascinated because they seem so remote in the very industrial heart of Europe! So, they're in my bucket list on my next trip to Europe! Thanks for sharing! Regards from Nicaragua! ☘️🇳🇮☘️

      You can climb both sides (Slovak, Polish) without climbing gear during summer. However, the Slovak side (with a very easy and short chain section) is easier compared to the Polish one.

      Beste Pepijn, Wij hebben enkel de 2e etappe gedaan omdat ik weet dat we Dif.C aankunnen met de middelen die we hebben en rekening houdend met de fysiek/grijpafstanden van onze kleinste dochter. Etappes 1&3 hebben we niet gedaan omdat ik niet 100% zeker was (zie beschrijving video). Ik kan bijgevolg enkel spreken voor dit korte maar steile stuk. Wij hebben enkel onze jongste dochter bijkomend beveiligd (simultaan volgen) waar mijn echtgenote als laatste meeklimt om waar nodig een extra push te kunnen voorzien aan de poep 😉. Onze oudere dochter (10) en zoon (13) hebben voldoende ervaring en zijn op de hoogte van de “do’s en don’ts” wat via ferrata betreft, we kunnen ze bijgevolg volledig vertrouwen. Maar uiteraard bepaalt de leeftijd alleen niet of extra beveiliging aan de orde is of niet, pas als je blindelings vertrouwen hebt in je kinderen zou ik het niet meer toepassen. Dubbele beveiliging lijkt mij moeilijk. In het geval van meerdere kinderen lijkt het dat twee begeleiders aangewezen zijn, die elk een kind mee naar boven liften. Dit alleen voor je rekening nemen is niet evident, omdat je dan steeds een stuk van het eenrichtingstraject in tegenrichting moet afleggen, wat niet altijd eenvoudig is voor jezelf, maar ook voor heel wat oponthoud zorgt voor de na jou volgende klimmers. Hopelijk is deze info relevant voor jou. Mocht je nog bijkomende vragen hebben, stuur gerust. Groeten, Thomas
