Prebergraben (Austrian Alps) | Moos - Grazer Hütte (1897 m) - Möslhütte (1600 m)

A 2-minute overview of our hike in the Prebergraben valley, located in the Schladminger Tauern, part of the Niedere Tauern (Steiermark - Austria).
On July 19, 2023, the weather wasn’t stable enough to climb the exposed peak of the Preber (2,740 m). So, we decided to stay in the Prebergraben valley, on the flanks of the mountain. We parked our car in Moos at Klausner Säge (1,300 m), and started (10:30 am) the hike quite fast with a steep 600 m climb through the forest towards the Grazer Hütte (1,897 m), were we arrived at 11:45 am and had lunch. We left the hut at 12:50 pm. A thunderstorm was coming our way around 14:00 but we were lucky to ultimately find ourselves on the edge of the disturbance. The western flanks of the Prebergraben are very steep and the path is often extremely narrow (and sometimes covered by grass/plants), so its better to be concentrated on this trajectory, especially with children. Finally, we made it to the Möslhütte (1,600 m) at 14:50 pm where we had a drink. The cottage is located at a stunning and quiet location with an amazing view on the valley and adjacent mountains, such as the Preber (2,740 m), the Roteck (2,742 m) and the Kleine Barbaraspitze (2,540 m). About 150 m northeast of the hut, you’ll find the beautiful Preber Wasserfall (Preber Waterfall). From here (15:50 pm), we returned to the car via the gravel path in the central part of the Prebergraben valley, and arrived at the parking lot at 17:24 pm.
