Takacat 300 LX Review: Check Out This Inflatable Catamaran’s Performance!
This is a great video to show you how NOT to run a boat! Hands off the wheel as you enter the marina. No need to move the wheel while in port. Neutral is your friend.. small bumps in and out of gear using the engines to steer. . Be patient. Generally speaking, the boat will have a several second lag between receiving an input and coming about. Slow is pro!
I was not proud of that display and shared so others could learn from me
If there is no winter and someone who is not bald wears a hat, then they are most likely an idiot. Such people are not worth spending time with.
Good video. With your “throttle impact “ directions, both reverses give stern to starboard
Ah crap I hate dumb mistakes. Port reverse, stern starboard. Starboard reverse, stern port. Thank you for the comment.
My session timed out and when I went to go look for my inbound PCR it said registration doesn’t exist.
I had that happen when I did not save part way through. Should have stressed saving partway. The whole site is maddening.
@ gotcha so I just have to start all over again and follow through. Right?
@@OffshoreBullies Sadly, yes. I think you do a save after the first page is completed. Then can go back. After my first failure, I power through and save out of fear of losing the progress. Good luck. Jealous you are heading over!
Nice! Serenity with loved ones
It is why we have the boat!
Love a frank video about the true pros and cons. As an owner of the same boat I would agree with all that the owner said. Unsure if he had the same issue as me with the helm protection panel where he installed a zip - I nearly cut off the top myself but in my case I managed to get the installation manual from the dealer and it shows there is a short part of the top track with a slightly wider shape where you can slide it out. I wasn’t originally left with the instruction manual so I only figured this out after I nearly broke it trying to slide it out round a 90 degree corner!
Thanks for the tip. I have enjoyed talking with other Jeanneau owners about their experience on other models. And, seeing how people set them up and modify makes me think of how I can do the same.
Can you do a video like this on a windy day on a dock with a hard current? I think that’s where a lot of new boaters panic.
Absolutely, this was the weather that presented that day. I will seek out a mid-tide sometime to dock, since that can present more challenge. When I left the fuel dock in this, it was one the easiest departures of my life.
Do you know if anyone did this (swivel modification) on the NC795?
I do not know. If it is a a Springfield sliding base, it is likely the same mount. If you do replace it, report back to let us know. It likely has an even larger impact on a 795 in terms of seating.
What are your top tips for docking success?
Slow slow slow.
@@AndrewWoodhouse Be chill, channel "The Dude" from the Big Lebowski when docking.
love your content. It was eye opening to me as you fix various item on the boat also. Awesome docking how-to!
Really appreciate the encouragement. Showing that maintenance is just part of ownership is major goal of the channel. A boat, no matter what kind, new or old, will have small things break - the natural state of a boat is on the bottom. Our job is to keep it on top.
If you haven't struggled you haven't been boating long enough. Great videos
Thank you. Trying to be helpful and honest about owning a boat.
A simple mnemonic to remember which way things go with your first method. Place both hands on the throttles. Point your thumbs towards each other. Let's use left and right for new boaters. Now, follow the "thumb". Bow to the right - your left thumb points right, so push the left (thumb) throttle forward. Bow to the left - your right thumb points left, so push the right (thumb) throttle forward. Stern to the right - your left thumb points right, so pull the left (thumb) throttle in reverse. Stern to the left- your right thumb points left, so pull the right (thumb) throttle in reverse. Follow the thumbs.
Great visualization.
Isnt it Thermo welded this aint good
No it is not.
what a garbage. Thanks for this video - truth
They did send a replacement floors. But, have heard of several people with problems.
How's the performance in rough water / chop given the deadrise is low? Thanks for the great review!
Thank you for the encouragement. Handling above 3’ gets bumpy. Hard to keep on a plane. We have crossed to the Bahamas on 5’ seas and had to keep off a plane, which really increases fuel consumption. It is weatherly with the cabin, but does not perform like a similar sized deeper vee boat. If mostly off shore use, there are more stable vessels for bigger seas. Would weigh how much time you would spend off shore versus near shore and overnights. We love the boat after almost 3 years and will still cross in those type of seas, but it is a slog.
@@echozulucruising Thank you! The water I boat is half of time 2-4 ft - my deep V 22 degree handles well...
@@crgeorge1 so, the judgement call is how much over 3, we can plane in most 3' seas of not too tight. 2' is easy. 4' we notice a the slap most and need to pull back. if you are getting somewhere to hang out on board, it would be fine, if it is longer runs off shore to fish in that, it will be rougher, with the trade off of the cabin. Good luck!
Thank you for inspiring my goal of doing the same within a few years. Also very good practical info. Nice rig you have. Happy cruising in 2025!
Thank you. The goal is to use our knowledge to show what is possible.
Where do snowballs come from a snowman of course
Ha. I do not want them in the boat!
What else should we be doing? We disconnected the fresh water hose, turned off the water, turned on the heat on board.
You obviously didn't have your morning coffee...
An addiction I know, but, especially on a cold day, one I enjoy.
Fantastic videos!
Thank you. Really appreciate the encouragement.
I truly love your videos and the reason why is, I'm used to small 18 foot aluminum lake boats but as i'm getting ready to retire, i'm planning on getting a larger boat like an 895 or 1095 and these tips are awesome for those of use who have never had to Pump out the black water, fill with diesel for heat or cool, fill water tanks etc..... Thank You!!!
That brings me joy. Good luck finding that next boat. A major motivation for starting a channel is to help make being on the water more accessible by showing what it is like to own an express cruiser and answering people’s questions about them without being a dick.
Step 6 - If you take on gas but have internal engines, don't forget to run your blowers immediately. Really nice video again. We take a picture of the Garmin screen before resetting the trip. We also take a picture of the gas pump so we have gallons and cost with a timestamp. I try not to look at the amount... instead, I look at the Marnia, where we are at, and look at all the boats and think, "Most boats spend their lives not being used." Just bought a "Sailboat Winch Bit Adaptor" for an old drill. Hoping to spin those caps with the sharp edges a little faster. Great VHF 1w reminder! Thank you for the Waterway Guide site. It looks very helpful. You may want to add a link to the show notes and/or ask if they offer affiliate links so you can make a little money. If they do, maybe do a whole episode.
Thank you for the feedback. The vast majority of my experience is on diesel and outboards - allowing me to overlook that imperative of running the blower on inboard/outboard gas boats. I will add the water way guide link. We have hard copy, but check the app for gas prices when traveling, at least as reference.
Are they sea worthy? Can they handle rough seas
I have not been on the 1295 in rough seas. Our 1095, which has a fairly low dead rise of 16 degrees at the transom, does not cut through tight waves smoothly over 3.5 feet/ about 1 meter. Meaning, on our 1095, we start to slow down significantly in larger waves. The 1295 is heavier, so may provide a slightly better ride, but, has a similar lower dead rise. Not sure what size waves would start feeling the waves, but, it is not a deep v wave cutter.
You actually made a video about closing the gas cap? What's next, maintenance Tuesday, don't forget the keys to start the boat???
Fair. Though, it is shocking the number of people who leave it open leaving the dock.
Never again, It only takes once.
It will be at the top of the list!
Don't get addicted to coffee tip 1 biggest drug in America caffeine

I admit my addiction and have not been motivated to change as of yet.
What is the most important provision you have forgotten on a trip?
HI Unrelated to your video, I have a 1095 in Australia, does your boat have a slight list to port at rest ?? keep creating content I really enjoy it !! cheers Phil
Thank you for the encouragement. We do not have a noticeable list to port. However, we often use the port trim tab when underway - depending on load. Our boat is a little bow forward at dock (a can will roll through the salon aft to bow), though slight.
Thanks very much for all your information.
Appreciate the comment, trying to make boating accessible as possible.
So ours (NC1095-2023) came with an unbranded one. Would turn on by itself. After almost causing a marina fire (longer story), a year later the dealer replaced it with a Kenmore. It works!
One of those things i did not realize the variation on.
Looks like you are in the gulf we call it an oversized mud puddle that’s not a beach sorry 😢
That is Cumberland Island GA. So, Atlantic Coast, it is gorgeous sand, but the water is nothing like S. FL.
@ thanks looked like the gulf
@@Aqua305Mia the basic point of S. FL being better still holds.
Not a boater but ended up here somehow. Here’s to a great 2025, get out there with those you love and have fun man!!!
Thank you. Having fun is always the goal. May your 2025 be delightful.
What is your 2025 boating goal? Ours is average going out once a week (and sharing boating with friends).
Ever thought about 3D printing that part with a stronger substance?
It is worth a try. One of my dock mates offered, I will take them up on it.
Not everyone needs a youtube channel. Delete it now
Ouch.
Good video! I’m planning on doing the same this winter. Question, Could you have just added the swivel bracket instead of adding the slider and the swivel brackets?
I ASSume you can, with the caveat that you would needed different screws to connect them. I believe someone tried that and was not satisfied with how securely it matched. What was satisfying about this was not additional screws or hardware is needed. If you try just the swivel, share how it works!
@ thank you. I’m in Seattle, not a lot of cruising around this time. I’ll get it done before spring season starts. Cheers
Well, you have a preseason project to look forward to.
Had a 1095 owner who knew less than zero about his boat. I did 3 pump outs while he watched; he waited 2 hours to ask for a pump out. A$$HOLE.
Yup! You sucked that time. 😊
Yes, I did. I am not proud of it.
I've been there myself...😂😂
Next time put a towel down around the area that you’re working in the park won’t bounce and go in the water
Good call. I will do that when I replace the next. Thank you.
You’re gonna need to cut those wires anyways because the wires will be cooked so I would cut them all right there at the end of the receptacle inspect that they can be used even at that point and then you’ll have to pull in more wire from the inside of the boat so it will reach
I did not know how much wire there was, but, when I do the next one will point it out. I would still likely remove the old just to see what was damaged, but, cutting the wire would have saved me a few hours in this case.
I don't need to hear it
You are a better person than me. I should know better. But still forget.
We have an 895 Sport (Series I) for two seasons on Lake Champlain. Happy to answer any questions.
Brilliant Video and very well explained. Keep them coming :)
Thank you. Tried to make it clear and show some of what I struggled with in trouble shooting and the install.
1. To improve the odds of not losing a screw, place a beach towel where you think the screw might land. I also would drape the towel by taping (painter's tape) to the swim platform and outboard. If something goes in the water, DO NOT swim for it without first notifying the dockmaster to kill power to ALL docks. Always assume stray currents in the water around any marina. 2. To protect the GRP when using a putty knife, first tape the area around the device with painter's tape. 3. Sometimes, you can take an old screwdriver, heat the tip with a butane lighter, and melt through the previously melted plastic to unscrew the screw. 4. I would apply 5200 directly to the GRP. It is easier to align, and the messy part does not move. 5. The typical shore power plug is a lousy legacy design notorious for its problems. West Marine also sells SMARTPLUG (orange in color), which connects quicker and more securely. See RUclipsr [Let's go channel surfing]-[Updating to a smart plug...]. 6. It is always worth checking both lines, making sure each has a galvanic isolator. 7. To clean shore power cords, use Majic Eraser, Spray Nine, Simple Green, and liberal amounts of elbow grease. Nice video. You spent a lot of time creating effective graphics. Thank you for adding to our collective knowledge base.
Great suggestions. I debated about 5200 vs silicone, with another boat owner observing that 5200 may make it harder to remove the next time should I need to replace again. In hindsight, I night have gone with the SMARTPLUG, I was going with the direct swap out that required no change to the hull hole. On the second receptacle, your tape recommendations on the hull to remove it makes a lot of sense. My New Years resolution is to clean my old cord (and water hose) on the next warmer day. Appreciate the constructive recommendations and the words of encouragement. Tried to codify what I did to help others either replicate or avoid what it did.
@@echozulucruising@echozulucruising FYI for others, SMARTPLUG fits the existing hole. Before reinstalling the same receptacle I would suggest investigating the fire problems with the standard power cord plugs.
@@echozulucruising@echozulucruising BTW, we own an 895 Sport :)
@@echozulucruising Weird. I did reply, but it is missing. FYI, for others, the SMARTPLUG uses the original hole.
Just toured one and loved the use of interior and exterior space.
great job and documentation! as always - a small job turns into "a day of work on the water" :) actually you should always compare Watts and not just Amps for the final outcome. in Europe we use 230V and most common is 16A, which makes 3680W in US you use 120V and so it's 30A giving same 3600W of power. if you order your Jeanneau in Europe it would come with CEE style shorepower inlet(s), not the NEMA ones which you removed.
Thank you. This is a particularly confusing case. The receptacle on the boat is equivalent to a version of a some EU 32 amp ,230 volt, 50 hz plug, HOWEVER as it is a US spec'd boat, it all goes to 120 60hz equipment. I focused on the "32 amp" vs "30 amp" because that was more the plug distinction (one has a curve inward, one a curve outward I have found). I did cut a few minutes from the video on that, mostly because i was paraphrasing someone else. My plan is to replace the other, only slightly damaged plug, and go into those connections more.
And, I need to research and be able to explain CEE vs NEMA, about which my ignorance is clearly evident.
All "Trident" submarines are "Ohio class". The four oldest boats have been converted to SSGNs and have an additional structure on deck for divers to use
Thank you. I clearly do not know my submarines. They are awesome to see coming in though.

@@echozulucruising Very much so....huge and silent.
0:15 what does "former boat captain" mean ? Were you captain on 1000 ft tanker, 150 ft yacht or 40 ft day boat ?
Great question. I held a 100-Ton Master Near Coastal Coast Guard license. I worked on a 100’ live aboard dive boat, the Sea Fever, in the Bahamas, and 55’ day boat dive boats in the Keys. My experience running boats is mostly under 60 feet and all power. I short hand “former captain” most of the time in videos. Key point is “former” as it was a long time ago and I forgot more than I used to know. But, I often come across things now on our boat recognizing it is something that is knowable, learnable and teachable.
Great walkthrough ...
Thank you
Great run down of the features of the new series 2. I like the Sport model better than the Weekender for fishing and with the heater option, it's perfect for the Pacific Northwest on the Columbia River.
The maximization of the cockpit and bow space is really well laid out, without compromising the interior.
