Value is a tricky thing to nail down. I've found, the things I hold nearest and dearest are things I've put a lot of effort into, and/or had for a very long time. The object in question becomes part of the story of my life as I recall it, and not just "I got the cheapest lamp on Amazon", but "I repurposed a lamp I've ALWAYS had and learned about how the voltage spike from a collapsing magnetic field can be used to light a fluorescent light!"
