Try not to pay too much attention to the engineer's rant. The artist wins in the end.

You're not ranting to yourself, I'm hearing you loud and clear. This is too relatable.

The handle would be a lot easier to carve with a spoke-shave or even a drawshave. Could turn that project into a $500 one by buying a new tool. :D
(I *am* a woodworker, so I've got most of the tools I might recommend. The point of your video is valid: making things can be more special than purchasing.)

And dear lord I seem to not be able to stop commenting: your spatula *is* art. Functional art, but art just the same. Enjoy it!

Nice video! This is extremely relatable. I usually end up talking myself out of projects because I can buy the finished product for cheaper than the material and tools. The spatula turned out nice though!

I've actually been thinking about trying to find a place to do bamboo-based crafting in Japan, which sounds random, but I get to go there for work once or twice a year - at some point the going to Japan thing in and of itself stops becoming interesting. So, maybe if I manage to pull that off an make myself a spatula while there, I can call it a multi-thousand dollar spatula!! :D
