Fossiliferous
Великобритания
Добавлен 2 янв 2022
Thanks for taking a look at Fossiliferous. I am a Yorkshire fossil hunter mainly looking for fossils on the Yorkshire Jurassic coast but sometimes from a bit further away. Sit back and join me on adventures to remote, hidden places finding up to 200 million year old ammonites, belemnites, ichthyosaur remains and all sorts of other flora and fauna from the mesozoic eras.
My aim is to take you with us on the hunt so that you can experience the joys of finding the amazing treasures of the past. I hope you can all experience the joy of Fossil hunting through my content

Its the start of the summer holidays and lots of you will be heading out for a spot of fossil hunting possibly for the first time. Heres some tips for the Yorkshire coast
Dont forget to keep an eye on the tide times and stay safe. The cliffs are still dangerous at this time of year.

I think you probably pack up far too quickly. The professionals and experts always pack up slowly. REALLY slowly.
Effective use of time 😆
Great haul! Really hoping to make the trip up from down south for a go this winter!🌀
We simply must! Greatly enjoyed yesterday's little hill visit.
Always fun. Feel free to give me a shout
Such amazing vlogs forever I really enjoyed it stay connected
Thanks
Just heading there... Then towards sandsend... Long walk day lol
Be careful on the stairs - I hear they are a bit loose after the big rains
Awesome!
Looks like an old stale oatmeal pie. Delicious.
Oh wow.... stunning, I've never seen one that colour before, how does that come about?
The green shell is due to mineral replacement during fossilisation with chamocite which is an aluminium silicate of iron or chlorite. Different environmental conditions during fossilisation and available minerals mean that often fossils can be preserved in different ways
That's a beauty!
Omg! That's stunning! 😮👍👍
I love that one! I have a great Asteroceras in a green ammonite nodule from Seatown but now seems like to need to hunt for an actual green specimen!
They are usually yellow calcite?
@@fossiliferous yep, the Seatown ones are a honey-coloured calcite usually, sometimes a darker brown. Was the chamosite one in the video from Scunthorpe?
@@mosmarb yes it's a scunny.
@@fossiliferous beautiful colour, I don't think I've ever seen one as green.
Would love to see that prepped! Beautiful piece.
It will be a few months before this one is done. I will post it in a future update
Found one in Filey and it's perfectly preserved. It's worth a look at the brigg
Filey is too young for dumorts which are late toarcian stage - There are some good sections of OxfordIan there though about 20 million years younger
Hello... lovely examples. Where in the Cotswolds are these beds. Interesting stuff as that's a bit closer to me, hoping to visit the Yorkshire Coast again sometime around mid September 👍🏻
All over that area just look for exposures of the yellow bridport sands
Wow ❤
Really like the white center's on the top two
Lovely ❤
One for the personal collection I'd say ❤
It is
Very nice
Looks like u need a new left glove
Yeah they don't last long
Can I just ask my friend, do you need to give Yorkshire ammonites a few water baths to remove salt? I’ve heard coastal fossils have a lot of sea salt that can corrode a fossil.
No need to soak yorkshire ammonites but I usually wash them when I get home to take off the salt and any other debris
@@fossiliferous thank you again for your knowledge and expertise!
Great channel mate. I wanted to ask are Yorkshire pyrite ammonites prone to oxidisation and pyrite decay? For instance, your average dactylioceras?
They are very stable but if you leave them outside they will eventually corrode and weather
@@fossiliferous thank you for your reply my friend!
😍😍😍
even those smaller ones look amazing.
💕
WOW. F**K. im speechless.
Id love to have one of those small ones, for me size doesnt matter when it comes to these shells from jurassic era
what a beauty.
I see some patterns of clamshells on bottom right side
This is a condensed bed with almost as many fossils as rock
Damn, that looks huge... how the hell do u even clean that? carefully with chisels?
Yall so lucky, id have done that all day with you guys, my country is full with mountains, it sucks.
Wow so many comments - thanks. You'll be surprised what you can find in land - there are marine fossils up in the Alps and the himalayas!
@@fossiliferous Im not a hiking guy really, and people here would shoot u for trespassing :D but thats interesting to know, I had no idea about that.
Damn, ~180m years old. What a beauty. I wish I had just 1 of these. I bet it feels like youre connecting with the past each time you touch it.
Getting a good one of these is hard as they are often poorly preserved and have little separation from the matrix. There has been lots of disappointment prior to getting this one 😆
Good job amigo
Nicely done.. Who did the prep work? I dare not attempt my spinys yet 😢
This was Mark ad Stone treasures. He's very good with the spiny ones
@@fossiliferous cheers.
Beautiful fossil nautilus ❤❤
This is underrated
Incredible find!
Lovely specimen! The voiceover that’s not really a voiceover is a bit weird though.
That was my mate doing the commentary
@@fossiliferous sounded like a sports commentator. Kind of funny.
@DreadEnder your too used to my reserved northern mumblings haha
@@fossiliferous haha I guess so.
Nice finds, look forward to seeing the preps. Good chisels are hard to find, the older the better in my experience through work and hunting, the old metal seems to be better quality then even the top end tools now, car boots and the depths of grandparents sheds for them👍
Cheap imports unfortunately!
Great demonstration of just how hard the rocks at Burton Bradstock are! Some fantastic specimens though if you visit close enough to a fall before the local collectors have stripped everything out.
I think the last fall was April and there certainly wasn't much left.
2024: the year of Nautilus
It certainly is
Some lovely finds once again my friend love the video's keep up the good work 👌
Cheers Colin. I need to film more and do less gassing though lol!
It's fucking awful having to re-live the nautilus moment again and again. Awful. My jealousy levels are still at critical. Leaving inflammatory comments usually helps but it's not this time.
It wasn't your day(s) for nautilus fossils. Kev and I are hoovering them up from everywhere.
Some lovely finds Matt ,that is an amazing Nautilus be great to see it prepped 👍
@davidthomas6859 it will be a couple of months at least but I expect it to be amazing
Nice find man. Great channel btw, hope you keep the content coming. Hope you don't mind me asking, but do you sell any of your finds or do you do it purely as a hobby..?
Thanks. I sell some of the more common ones - there's only so many fossils that I can have space for! There's a few bits in fossiliferous.onlineweb.shop
Thanks for link, I'll definitely check it out. You might already know this but thought you might find this interesting, at the top of Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons, about an hour from me, you can see the remains of a fossilised seabed. I've had some great reactions when I've pointed it out to friends
@kezrees7120 cool. I'm guessing it's pretty ancient
Wow ,nice one ❤
Thanks 🔥
Nice video mate
Thanks!
I'm fascinated!
❤❤❤
