- It's day 1 of a Fossiliferous trip to La France. On the way there we decide to stop in at Folkestone to have a look at the 103 million year old gault clay, famous for its beautiful pyrite fossils complete with their iridescent nacre shells. The gault clay was deposited in a calm deep water environment during the Albion stage of the Lower Cretaceous.
Amazing fossil hunting, cheers from México ✌️
I do love the ammonites from the Gault Clay, though I don't find identification the easiest - still, I'm not going to be satisfied with Something-hoplites so I do persist. Gaultammonite is a nice resource.
Yes I am only guessing with these. I need to get a copy of fossils of the gault
There is a great book available by Philip Hadland. Fossils of Folkestone, Kent. It makes the job much easier and it's great quality publication.
Beautiful ammonites! Nice to see something different. Amazing colours and shapes. Looks like a fun trip mate! 😁👍
It was!
Great start to your trip. Good luck in France
Thanks! 😃
Great video! I need to pop along to Folkestone now and do some hunting!
It was a successful first hunt
Some of the nicest are some of the smallest.
Nice and crisp 😊
They are stunning when clean out of the clay
Very cool fossils here. Loved the fish vert, looked fesh.
Cheers. A bit more unusual that vert.
Great finds ,those ammonites have beautiful colours ❤
They are amazing. It's a shame alot of the bigger ones didn't seem to he preserved
Hahahaha classic and no digging in the beach. That pesky little spider boy will be pleased.
Pointless to dig as they are sat on top of the clay
Another good hunt and some lovely ammonites
Thanks
At 11:00 that's a big hoplites 🤩🤩
Hoping it preps
