Ub9000 is the best...a JEWEL!

This affects all Panasonic players, not just the Ub9000. I turned this setting off years ago on my UB820. I guess that explains why I haven't had any issues with playback freezing, or discs not playing.

sir, you are using the EPSON 5040ub projector...what are your thoughts of it as of today. I am thinking of jumping into the projector realm but want to do it at a reasonable cost to start and I can get one for $600. Do you believe this is a capable projector in todays home theater world? any advise would be appreciated. thanks and keep up the good work.

Thank you for this video, it's great that people such as yourself take the time to help out the community. There's a very good reason that the 9000 costs so much more, that has all to do with the uprated analogue audio DAC's, outputs and huge power supply to cleanly drive the analogue audio section. That stuff can get very expensive very quickly, and I know from experience working as an AV technician. If you connected the 9000 via XLR balanced or even single ended RCA to a high-end stereo's analogue inputs, there would be a difference, I'm sure. However, if like me, you only use HDMI so just send the digital data to your AV Receiver and TV and don't even use the analogue audio section, then the ub-820 just makes way more sense. This is because when you send the audio signal over HDMI digitally, you are off loading the work to your amp/receiver and the player is simply just passing the raw 1's and 0's for your amp/receiver to convert back to sound using it's DAC chips instead. The video side of things is not as clear-cut as both the UB-820 and UB-9000 do a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to video processing before sending the signal out to your display, example upscaling, and Panasonic's killer HDR optimiser feature which is also processed by the player before your display receives the signal. However, the video processing capabilities is near identical for both models and most TV's now are so good at video processing (especially Sony) that even if there are minute differences, your display would likely process out most if not all of it. Don't get me wrong, the 9000 looks awesome and the build quality is better for sure, so could likely outlive the 820 and if you have a vintage AV receiver that only has old school analogue surround inputs so would be wholly reliant on the DAC chips of the player, then the ub9000 makes more sense. If you have the money and the extra shelf space required for the UB9000 then go for it, it's a superbly built top of the line player that would be right at home in any high-end home theatre. But do not underestimate the UB-820, it's a brilliantly capable machine for a fraction of the price and if you're seriously worried about longevity you could buy 2 ub-820's instead of 1 ub9000, leave 1 in storage and still save money.

Why get an anthem if you don't care about sound

You don't care about native 7.1 or dolby atmos ? I have an anthem and upmixing is nowhere near atmos. Upmixing also doesn't give you discrete rear surround.

The New Line Platinum DVD has a DTS-ES 6.1 mix, the Blu-ray has a 7.1 mix and the 4k has a 5.1 mix... That doesn't make a lot of sense but like you I think the 5.1 mix sounds great.

When i first built my theater the only movies I watched in there were atmos. Then I decided to pop in daylight that was not in atmos so I unmixed and it was a really good experience. Specially the part with the electric wire when it flopping around and the women grabbed it. I'm so glad that movie is coming to 4k

Always appreciate ur videos. But 7 is one of those once u know the ending. What’s the point of watching it over again movies. An Atmos track would’ve been the only reason to watch it

I don't understand the hate on the way the UB820 looks tbh, i have mine on an av unit which is made of that black glass so it matches it looks great. Also i never touch it, i use the remote to power on and off and eject and close the disc tray. I have always used dvd players that way. BTW i agree on the remote i bought the back lit one as well 👍

Mine quit after 2 years, I watch a lot of movies, and have a large collection, but for the money it's not worth it. Outdated menu, very temperamental, great picture when and if it works. My Sony ES1100 is tons better, so is the 700 model, for that matter

OMG thank you! I've been having this same problem with the ub820. It's mostly blurays on mine but Galaxy Quest and Christmas Vacation are 4k's that were doing this.

My sony x700 has had no issue,bl i know ots not anything special but it has never failed to play any disc, either 4k or regular blu ray. Maybe i just got a good one because ive heard of others having issues with it, but not for me (knock on wood)

I went through 2 UB820's!!!! I think they are Garbage players.

How does your eye not go to your speakers?

Usually when cec breaks it's cause something happened out of order and that became the set process. Best practice to correct is to turn off cec on all devices, then begin to turn it on at "the end of the chain," so to speak. Add devices one by one verifying functionality after and hopefully the issue is gone for a couple months at least. Thanks HDMI consortium!

And this is why I purchased another Oppo 203 it's the best 4K player on the planet. Yeah you'll pay over $1,000 for a used unit but it's well worth it. Have absolutely no problems with it playing discs including the one I've had for 7 years.

1:53 I was a space geek all my life until I watched Bart Sibrell's "A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Moon". Blew my mind. Plus eventually I got into both a Psychology degree (with emphasis on lying) and telecommunications due to a business thing. To me all those things combined, with my adult mind -- I'm definitively a skeptic now.

My 820 with BD live on limit plays Pacific Rim no problem. Be interesting if you could get another disc of Pacific rim to see if it's a fault in the disc or the players. Sounds like the disc issue if both players do it.

Good find on the CEC issue. Never thought that’s what would cause the issue. I’ll have to try that next time it comes up to see if that does the trick. Luckily mine only exhibits the issue maybe 1/20 times

After 1 year, mine wouldnt eject the disc tray.

I have the UB450. I've had a couple of times where I play a normal blu ray. Sometimes, after unpausing for a few minutes, the video plays, but I don't any sound. Any ideas why or tips?

My UB820 is in my HT, and I have the CEC on. I don’t have the issues that you are having with it.

I bought the DP-UB9000 over Christmas. I only bought it because my Sony stop working and I needed a new one, first one I saw so bought it.

I guess you didn't want your center channel midrange to overpower your bass?

Nice setup. I just got an 820 w hisense 50" tv as well. Trying to figure the best connections to use. Currently hdmi to tv opticsl to sound bar. I should try hdmi out from tv to sound bar. Looking for dolby vision hdr10+ as well

I still have the original UB900 along with a 2 year old 820 (bought for its Dolby Vision capability). Both machines still work fine with both UHD and BD discs. That's not to say they've NEVER glitched, but when they do I just run a disc cleaner through them once or twice. Given the DVD and BD players I've had over the years I'm amazed at how long that B900 has lasted.

Do you have sufficient cooling in your AV Rack? My UB9000 is on top of my rack with my centre speaker on the shelf below. I doesn't get hot or get heat fromany other AV component. . Get the player on its own away from other heat sources. I had a similar problem and sent my player back to where I got it from and they'd fixed it. I think it was a new lazer. The spinning disc logo is the Java load screen and your player is getting stuck on it (likemi e did). Other disc's use different animation for this Java load screen. It can't be skipped as it is what powers the disc content of sorts. Most Bluray disc's have them too. I hope that helps. Trevor

I have Van Helsing on 4k. I put it in my Sony player it wouldnt play part of it. I put it in my UB9000 thinking it would do the same, it played straight away and all the way through no problem.

My ub 9000 is not even connected to the internet. I connect it once a year, with a cable, and check for any software updates. Does this setting stop any software updates on the machine?Do you have a link for the fans that keep cool your rack?

I'm glad you got it sorted out. I'd heard BD-Live can cause a lot of freezing issues regardless of player. I bought my Sony X700 four years ago (this week in fact) and BD-Live was one of the features I turned off pretty much immediately after setting up the player. I have never had a single movie freeze on me including my (very small) collection of 4K discs. I'd love a UB9000 by the way but am floored at what the price is here in Canada when you can find it.
