I hate when Sugrue makes his ridiculous assumptions about what is and isn't. He seems to fall off base. Essence isn't real? Yes it is. Lazy Wittgensteinian solutions does not solve the problems. Language or pictures does not solve life or cognition. These are tools to describe the essence. Sugrue thinks all resolution lies with his right wing God.

It's sad watching one that isn't awake to the reality of things speaking of them as if they are myth. He actually sounds like he knows what he's talking about, but can't see that it's true, to me, literally comes off as someone trying to add 2+2 together but not knowing that it really is 4. The part about being separate from nature, whether it comes from an initiate or not, always cracks me up something horrible.

You can actually do experiments that confirm its existence and effects. Incidentally, while a student Reich was a great follower of Bergson, before he had made his pioneering discoveries.

Very good summary. But some of the criticisms need to be questioned. Nietzsche said that man is a bridge between animal and ubermensch. So to accuse him of wanting to go back to animal morality is not valid. In fact, he admits that the ascetic ideal was necessary in that it provided *some* meaning even if wrong as it is better than no meaning. His whole work is to point to the unitary nature of will to power. The journey from master morality (will to power of the strong over the weak) to slave morality (will to power of the ascetic over the strong)) to beyond both (will to power of man over himself).
