Flight Design CTLS - Brother's First Flight in my CTLS
I took my brother on his first flight in my CTLS. The airspace was very crowded along the Mississippi River that day, but the weather was great! We managed to maneuver through the traffic. It was a good flight. He thought it was EXCELLENT!

    I have been burning MOGAS in my Cessna 170B for four-years. Fortunately my source of MOGAS (ethanol free) is ten-minutes from the airport. It has been running very smooth and doesn't have the lead buildup on the plugs. I have been re-fueling by lifting the plastic five-gallon cans onto the wing. I ordered the pump you use and happy with the results. And most important, MOGAS is half the cost of AVGAS. Thank you

    I’ve flown multiple CTLS’s, one on floats. My take is that they need the 914 or even a 915 once the new rules are put in place. Yes, the 912’s are dependable and sip fuel making for great range, but I feel they are underpowered. I’ve yet had one reach 120kts in level flight except one day that was 24 degrees at altitude with the pitot freezing up. Good thing the I-Pad was still working.

    • @ctcrosswindadventures5165
      @ctcrosswindadventures5165 Год назад

      I agree the new rules will change everything if approved, even as written. Hopefully the changes will get tweaked a bit more in a positive way. It will be interesting to see any opposing comments or rationale. I do enjoy the economy of the 912 in my CTLS and I have seen 118-120 knots CAS at altitude. However, if the new rules go through, I will likely be looking to upgrade for speed and more room & baggage. We should see a manufacturing boom from this and an opportunity to replace a very old and aging group of training aircraft.

      I was very pleasantly surprised to see the extent of the changes in the proposal. @mauriceevans6546 Год назад

      @ctcrosswindadventures5165 I guess there are those who think light sport should stay the way it is, but the rule will bring us on par with new rules in brazill and Europe. I think most if not all will make it through, because manufacturers have been waiting for this for a long time and the only ones that will hate it will be private pilots who feel like the new rules put us in par with them. Lol

    • @ctcrosswindadventures5165
      @ctcrosswindadventures5165 Год назад

      @@mauriceevans6546 Actually, there is already very little difference between sport and private in terms of required actual piloting skills. Just a few limitations for Sport, primarily passengers, altitude, and night operations. So, night operations would be the only skill difference, assuming the sport pilot has endorsements for controlled airspace.

      @@ctcrosswindadventures5165 Really great video. I'm an aspiring pilot myself, but I'm sort of waiting for MOSAIC to kick in. The funny thing about the light sport certificate is there very few if any rentable LSA's, so while it was supposed to be a cheaper path to general aviation it ended up almost requiring ownership as a barrier to entry. I suspect the lack of demand is mostly due to the MGTOW. But the medical standards for private pilot are a quite archaic; I'll just say I'm a mid-thirties guy with no history of crime or drug abuse, straight A's in college, cognitively healthy, no prescription medications, never been to the emergency room, fair eyesight but thinking about getting glasses. However an earlier misdiagnosis and a certain rare but essentially benign condition makes it expensive or perhaps impossible for me to get a 3rd class medical. Really happy to read the NPRM, and looking forward to training in a C172.

The iPad mount I use can be found here: www.arkon.com/product/EXBK131-exercise-bike-tablet-clamp.html You can probably find it on amazon as well. I clamp in onto the aft protruding edge of the glareshield. Also, I had to rotate the cradle 90 degrees to eliminate overlapping my primary GPS on the panel. So it actually grips the iPad on the left and right sides. If you watch the video "...Southern Illinois for Lunch" you can see the mount from the side view. I also use a Sentry ADS-B receiver connected to the iPad via Wi-Fi. Let me know if you are able to procure the mount. Do you plan to make any GoPro videos? Let me know as well.
