I swear I have five stars to almost every book on this list and added the rest to my shopping cart online. Omg I need to do a video reading your favorite books.

Beautyland was hands down my favourite book of the year too. You summed it up perfectly!

I really need to read Annie Bot next year, I have a feeling it's gonna be my thing. This was the year I got back into reading after years of not really reading much, so I kind of feel simultaneously underwhelmed and overwhelmed. My favorites this year were A Dowry of Blood, Our Wives Under the Sea, and Bunny - still going back and forth on the order of those. I'm really looking forward to the year of reading I have planned in 2025!!

My mom and i moved to our new cozy town into our new place almost 3 months ago now. Love it here. I remember packing up 5 boxes for my books. ☕📚

still thinking about my faves for the year but Annie bot is on my honorary mentions list for sure!!!! hearing you talk about beauty land is making me go and buy a copy...like right now!!! monstrilio is definitely on my faves lists ugh I reread that book recently and it solidified that I REALLY love horror books that explore grief!!! and yes!!! I love the usage of the different POVs in monstrilio as well, love how it didn't hash out the same events but actually moved the story along!! also I loved how queer everyone was and it was no big thing, they were just queer and existing :')))) my number one favorite book of the year is little weirds by Jenny slate, I'll be making my very own video on my faves soon but ughhh that book is soooo beautiful and tender and loving, if soooo perfect to read at the beginning of a new year (hint hint) 🤧

I think I picked up both Annie bot and my husband at your recommendation, and they’re both going to end up on my favorites list too! Also, I loved this phrase you said: “it’s embedded, but now it needs to be tattooed where it’s embedded” I’m still working on my favorites list but one that’s stuck with me since April is the warm hands of ghosts. I think I peer pressured myself into giving Bride (and Not in Love) at least 4 stars, but if I’m being honest with myself, they didn’t give me the same giddy feelings that her others have. I agree completely with your critiques of Bride, and I really hope we get more paranormal romance from her in the future! Also thank you sm for the recommendation for swift and saddled-I am the black cat in my relationship lol so I love finding books like that to make myself feel better about being a grump sometimes 😅

I love these videos because everyone is so passionate sharing their top reads ♥ - I read beautyland because of you, and I SOBBED in the last few chapters 10/10. Loved it. - Private rites by Julia Armfield reminded me of Pink Slime (a dystopian blue sisters with detailed descriptions of the atmosphere like pink slime). Very slow&moody but beautiful. - Jaded by Ela Lee (my favorite book of the year🇬🇧), A dowry of blood, & thirst evoked similar feelings as Annie bot for me (stunning writing in each).

What a great selection! You might enjoy Piranesi and The Wedding People. My favorite, that nothing could even come close to, was Project Hail Mary ❤️🧑🏼‍🚀. Your reviews are great. I wish I was a “deeper reader” like you (I mostly read for plot and need to expand my horizons). Maybe I just need more practice! I am going to pick up Our Wives Under the Sea next. I know Annie Bot is not for me, but after hearing your review 💔, I can absolutely see why it was so high up on your list.

Thank you Ali, you are a pleasure to watch. All I will say is that I hope you find more time-tested classics, which may have less topical appeal but IMHO provide deeper satisfaction. Of course we are all different so maybe Didion, Woolf, and Austin aren't your cup of tea. That's okay but it's important to make sure you're reading for yourself as well as your audience. Have a very happy new year!
