Girl, drop everything NOW (meet me in the pouring rain) and tell me how we continue to merge into the same person with each passing day?!?!?! I swear I have five stars to almost every book on this list and added the rest to my shopping cart online. Omg I need to do a video reading your favorite books.
Also, I don’t know if you’ve read this (though I did go and request to be friends with you on goodreads because how dare I not already have??). But if you haven’t. The Night Guest by Hildur Knutsdottir sounds up your alley. It’s super short, super weird and very ambiguous and confusing but in a way that doesn’t piss you off. I also think you’d like the writing cause it’s a middle aged woman who is just over it and the way she thinks about people and things is so out of pocket and weird. I loved it
The speed of which I went to see if the library has Thirteen Ways to Kill Lulabelle Rock was unreal, it sounds like such a fun time and I cannot wait to read it. 28:39 A recommendation: Leave the World Behind from Rumaan Alam. If you like the aspect of the family not leaving the house in We Used to Live Here, you might like this one 😊 People either love it or hate it, I really enjoyed it!
I love these videos because everyone is so passionate sharing their top reads ♥ - I read beautyland because of you, and I SOBBED in the last few chapters 10/10. Loved it. - Private rites by Julia Armfield reminded me of Pink Slime (a dystopian blue sisters with detailed descriptions of the atmosphere like pink slime). Very slow&moody but beautiful. - Jaded by Ela Lee (my favorite book of the year🇬🇧), A dowry of blood, & thirst evoked similar feelings as Annie bot for me (stunning writing in each).
Same!! They’re my fav videos to watch this time of year. OMG this makes me so happy to hear 😭 💜 I literally bought the uk version of private rites so I could get it early…. Still haven’t read it 😂 but I cannot wait!! Thirst too 🥹
i never see people talk about open throat and it’s BOMB- i’ve had no idea how to talk to people about that book bc it was so short and so impactful, the audiobook is awesome as well
“The curse is the patriarchy” sent me 😂😂 Love this list! All the ones I’ve read have all been 4.5 or 5 stars for me so I def have to pick up some more of these! (Also so happy to see your face back in my subscription feed)
still thinking about my faves for the year but Annie bot is on my honorary mentions list for sure!!!! hearing you talk about beauty land is making me go and buy a copy...like right now!!! monstrilio is definitely on my faves lists ugh I reread that book recently and it solidified that I REALLY love horror books that explore grief!!! and yes!!! I love the usage of the different POVs in monstrilio as well, love how it didn't hash out the same events but actually moved the story along!! also I loved how queer everyone was and it was no big thing, they were just queer and existing :')))) my number one favorite book of the year is little weirds by Jenny slate, I'll be making my very own video on my faves soon but ughhh that book is soooo beautiful and tender and loving, if soooo perfect to read at the beginning of a new year (hint hint) 🤧
Omg ahhh we have so much crossover when it comes to favorites! I also love The Push, Monstrilio, We Used to Live Here, and Annie Bot!! But also now I’m so intrigued to read all the books you mentioned that I haven’t read 👀
i loved annie bot too!! doug's character was so annoying I agree!! i felt so bad for annie and the other female bot along with her ( I forgot her name) well if you loved annie bot then you will also love "a thousand splendid suns" and you made me add "beautyland "on my never- ending tbr
loooove your list, i got so many recs i haven’t heard from anywhere else. 😊 a deadly education was one of my fave years a couple of years back. really enjoyed the scholomance trilogy
I think I picked up both Annie bot and my husband at your recommendation, and they’re both going to end up on my favorites list too! Also, I loved this phrase you said: “it’s embedded, but now it needs to be tattooed where it’s embedded” I’m still working on my favorites list but one that’s stuck with me since April is the warm hands of ghosts. So haunting and beautiful
I've only recently found your channel, but I think we have similar reading tastes. It heartens me that I had a couple of these on my TBR for next year already (My Husband and Beautyland) I've also added Open Throat and Lullabelle.
I really need to read Annie Bot next year, I have a feeling it's gonna be my thing. This was the year I got back into reading after years of not really reading much, so I kind of feel simultaneously underwhelmed and overwhelmed. My favorites this year were A Dowry of Blood, Our Wives Under the Sea, and Bunny - still going back and forth on the order of those. I'm really looking forward to the year of reading I have planned in 2025!!
We don't have that many read books in common, you and I, but a lot of these sounds really intriguing, and I will try to check them out in 2025. The idea of a main character who isn't a human but experiences human things is very compelling to me. And since you asked: my favourite book this year is The Ministry of Time, and it's not really a non-human character, but a human from another era discovering our present world, which is maybe close enough for you to be interested :)
Makes me so happy to see beautyland still your number one 💜 and of course scholomance! 😈 Hahah I’ve been taking my ranking soo seriously too, it’s so hard!
All of these sound so interesting! I read Open Throat and absolutely loved it! What a unique story that I couldn’t put down. I also own Beautyland so I’ll need to check it out soon. 😊Great video!
What a great selection! You might enjoy Piranesi and The Wedding People. My favorite, that nothing could even come close to, was Project Hail Mary ❤️🧑🏼🚀. Your reviews are great. I wish I was a “deeper reader” like you (I mostly read for plot and need to expand my horizons). Maybe I just need more practice! I am going to pick up Our Wives Under the Sea next. I know Annie Bot is not for me, but after hearing your review 💔, I can absolutely see why it was so high up on your list.
I’ve heard such great things about all of these! I’ve had the netgalley for the wedding people for a hot minute haha need to get to it pronto I hope you end up loving our wives under the sea! Let me know what you think when you finish 👀
@ Oh my goodness. Our Wives… Finished it last night. Beautiful, devastating. Just all the feels!! PS If you DO ever decide to pick up Project Hail Mary, get the audio book for…. reasons I cannot divulge! 🤫🤐😉 PPS You also have to be OK with some “dad humor” 😂
Queued Annie bot 🙃.... Recency bias but I'm reading the bear and the nightingale rn and I'm pretty sure it'll be 4.5-5 stars for me. The writing is gorgeous
Great list, added a few to my ever growing TBR. If you haven't already check out Where I End by Sophie White - fcked relationship between mother & daughter, uncomfortable and gross but so compelling.
Did you know that We Used to Live Here has some Instagram accounts for the people that … idk how to explain it without spoilers. It goes deep. It reminiscent of Donnie Darko’s internet presence when that movie came out

The way I giggled at that first line 😂
Omg I can’t wait to see your list!!
Oh snap I’ve had the netgalley for a while just sitting unread, sounds so good 🤩 getting to it asap
thank you for showing the inside of we used to live here, i was planning on only going audio but now i wanna read it physically
Physically was so fun! I literally had to cover the pages with my hand so I wouldn’t read ahead tho 😂

Hope you like it!

I’m reading we used to live here in book club I’m in this year !
I hope you love it! It's so fun
lol I have literally no overlap with you whatsoever
but my top 3 of the year were Book Lovers, Tress of the Emerald Sea and Funny Story
I mean Tress is a five star prediction for me so we shall see! And idk why I've been putting funny story off but I need to get to it ASAP 👀
Did you know that We Used to Live Here has some Instagram accounts for the people that … idk how to explain it without spoilers. It goes deep. It reminiscent of Donnie Darko’s internet presence when that movie came out
Whaaaaat 😮
I know there’s a whole Reddit page of stuff to dive into too! I think when I reread I’m going to put on my detective hat so seriously 🕵🏻♀️
cool cool cool. adding more books to the tbr. thank you? :p ps. have you read Vita Nostra?
Lolol
No I haven’t! Just added to my tbr tho 😆
