One thing I always run into with my RUclipsrs is that I find someone I really like, then either my interests or priorities change, or their channel changes soo much that we no longer align. The most common example is they buy a mansion and now their standard of living is just so unrealistic next to mine. I’ve been following you for maybe 5years now(?) and one thing that’s kept me coming back to your channel is that we’ve changed together. For me, you are easy to connect to. You are real. So many other channels make me feel less than or guilty about something or another that I’ve really stopped participating in most social media altogether. But when I leave your channel, and a select few others, I feel uplifted or centered. I like the old videos but I also like the new videos. ❤

This is one of the biggest compliments you could ever pay me! I strive to remain “relatable” even when that target seems to be constantly moving and shifting as social media changes. Being relatable to me is about way more than having people like me online, but being able to still touch people and bring peace and inspiration to their lives.
The fact that I’ve been able to do this for you makes the effort all worth it! Your words have really touched my heart and renewed my mission. Thank you, my friend. ♥️

I hope this doesn’t come off too dramatic, but your videos have helped changed my life! I started watching your channel the year before I got engaged to my now husband of 2 years. And because of ideas your video prompted and your encouragement, I have become a homemaker who is comfortable and confident in my role. Seeing to you grow more comfortable in your videos has been a big part of it! You not only talk the talk, but you walk the walk! Thank you!! And may God bless you and your family abundantly this year!

Your #5 lesson is where I am. I am Cynthia, not my husband's wife or my son's mother. Those are true, but people forget that I am my own person, and it depresses me that people expect me to be someone I'm not just because my family is great at a task. Don't put people onto pedestals and expect me to join them. That's not who I am. I'm just Cynthia, and I would like to be accepted as me alone. Thanks for being honest because it helps me to be honest with myself.

Natalie I have noticed a difference! I have been watching you since the twins were little! In 2020 we had a medical kiddo born and when your mindset went into progress not progression so did mine! I felt the same way! I feel like we have both grown over the years together in a weird way! We are now expecting our 3rd child and we went through our whole house in a day thanks to you! I woke up and just wanted to get everything ready. Told myself what gets done is more than yesterday “progress over perfection” and the relief when I sat down at the end of the day. I just had to pray ♥️

When I watch your videos from a couple of years ago, I do notice the difference. You've always been authentic and relatable, but over time I feel you've become more confident, maybe more comfortable within your online community that's supporting you, and you've opened up more. I appreciate that you've grown into your own style of doing things, and as your content changes over time, I feel like we're on this journey of personal growth and development together. So thank you for all of that! ❤

Yes to the millennial gray as a coping mechanism for too much clutter! I fell into that trap and am just now (at almost 34) discovering I like some color in my home. Color, "mismatched" wood tones (we're collecting older furniture pieces we love), and things with character. It's so cozy!

When i was a junior in high school a classmate wrote in my yearbook - basically " you dont need to be what everyone else thinks you should be, be yourself!" No truer words spoken. I've spent many years since remembering these words & it's changing my life. I am Carolyn - who loves travel, sewing, crafts, reading & being a stay at home (retired) homemaker! I take what is enjoyable for our family (hubby & I) - so yes i have grey walls in our home, but lots of color & wood to counter the blandness. The same with my clothes, food,... I'm simplifying even more but enjoying life (even with dealing with an unknown health issue for the last year - hope to find a reason this year!)

I'm many years older than you, but after watching your videos I'm firstly more motivated than before and secondly much more relaxed because your way of speaking and your explanations always come from the heart and are very wise for your age. Thank you very much.
You always say exactly the right words that I needed.

No. 5 is a good lesson. I am not a minimalist, either. However, I sought online and book support 20 years ago to help me declutter, sort, organise and generally cope with my life better, learn what is important and what isn't and also who I am - and that just happens to go under those labels of minimalism, simplicity, frugality etc. etc. It doesn't mean I am those labels, but I have acquired skills that have saved my marriage and my life and that mean I can enjoy my wonderful life and future as a senior. I just turned 60.

Progress over perfection has had such a positive impact on me. Thank you 😊

What I like about your minimalism is it isn’t stark and depressing. Your home is neat and comfortable. Having to downsize after 50 years of marriage has been difficult. I had many beautiful things that I could not bring with me to the new house. Not the junk, that wasn’t painful to declutter. The funny thing is that once in a while I look in antique malls. I see so many things exactly the same as things I gave away. The decision to keep or get rid of something was so difficult. I admit I have a storage room with items from my Mother and my aunt that I just can’t part with, but not that many. I gave away so much crystal and silver. My children didn’t want it then. Although, as they get older they do appreciate some of the “stuff” more. I guess I will never be a true minimalist. Just neat and as tidy as possible.

This video made me think of myself! When I got married, I moved in with my spouse to a very small condo. I acquired stuff over the years and was not letting it go. I wasn’t a huge shopper for things like home decor. Clothes, yes, are a huge part of my life. I’m learning what works for my body. I am very crafty but to be honest do not feel I got alot of supplies like most crafters do. In my marriage I started to feel overwhelmed with what little stuff I did have. I thought more storage was the answer, which it was not. To my husband, our home is cluttered and I am a hoarder. I’m actually neither one of those things. There plenty of space to walk around in my condo. I am like you, constantly decluttering my space. Several years ago I was watching a RUclips video and it just hit me that I wanted to make some sort of a change in my life and let go of my small amounts of clutter. There was a lady who happened to be religious and had a RUclips channel that I could connect with. I watched her video and I started on this small journey to go through my home. I would start one room at a time and I would go through my stuff. Well, that video inspired me at the time but it wasn’t enough for me. I felt as if I was still struggling with the clutter. About three years ago I was having some very serious problems in my marriage and I was left with having to figure out whether or not I was going to stay in my marriage. My husband is somebody who likes to put labels on himself and likes to put labels on other people. I married a person who did some things outside of our marriage and when he decided he wanted to come back into the marriage and change, I put up a lot of boundaries within the marriage. I did leave my spouse for a year! I wasn’t going to allow all the things that occurred in the marriage to happening again. If he was going to make a huge reconciliation with me, we were going to have to make a lot of serious changes in our marriage. In that process, I chose to make some serious changes with myself. I got closer to God more than ever. Last year, I got so fed up with the fact that every system I tried for clearing up my clutter was not working. In that year that I left my spouse, I watched a movie called “Break every Chain”. That movie struck a huge chord with me. I was married to an alcoholic who went outside the marriage because he was so depressed in his life. His problems built up so much and it had caused me to feel like so much weight was now on my shoulders. After watching that movie, the song chain breakers by Zach Williams kept popping up in my head. It made me realize that I had a chain in my life that was holding me back. One day when I was walking, I was trying to figure out what the chain was in my life. I had a bunch of stuff sitting in my art room on the floor, and it was a hot mess. I was taking a walk that day, I came home to realize that the mess on the floor was due to the fact that I had a lot of paper. I realized that the paper in my life was a huge chain that I needed to break so I went on this journey, and I started cleaning out the room and decluttering everything that was related to paper. I swear during this entire journey my grandmother who is in heaven, was trying tell me to clean up that room. It made me realize that God was also looking out for me as well. For the next several days, I started going through my entire room and clearing out anything that was paper related. That included cardboard, that included paper and anything else trash related. I went on that journey and spent months just trying to go through everything within that room. I went through all my stuff. I knew I had stuff that I could let go of. I was able to take a bunch of stuff out to donation to a local free store that gives away free art supplies to people in the community. I was able to let go some stuff for regular donation. I’m still on the journey that I started a year ago and it changes from time to time. So many things that you say in your videos resonate with me the most. There are days where my fashion changes. There are days where I will go through different parts of my home and see that I can let go a certain things that don’t serve my life anymore. I try not to be a perfectionist, but sometimes I find myself wanting to be that exact person. It’s hard to let that go within me. I myself don’t like labels because I was labeled as a child with the learning disability. I remember when I was in college I learned a lot about myself at the school I went to. I realize that when I got married, I started to kind of lose a little part of me. My stuff was holding me back. Growing up I didn’t have a lot of stuff. I gained that part of me back as I have been in this journey. It really has changed my entire life. I am now closer to God more than ever. I don’t view myself as a certain thing. As I sit here and write this to you, I’m looking at my Christmas tree thinking it’s not Pinterest perfect nor is it full of bright colorful glass ornaments. As I write this to you, I think to myself that your channel has really helped me to really understand myself. This year I have decided to come up with a vision board and I want to create some goals. Whether or not they are accomplished is another story. I’m hoping with God‘s help that I will see a huge change. I’m hoping that I will start to feel less stressed. I’m hoping that any worries I have will go away. I also am hoping that my marriage restoration project will continue to get better as time goes on. Anyways, thank you for being who you are because there are days where I feel like a minimalist and there are days where I know, I am definitely not a minimalist. Thank you again!!! This year, I want to see so much come out of my journey!!! One of my goals is to grow my blog A Handmade Story! I hope that God will make my dream a reality!! ❤️🙏😊

Thank you for sharing! I definitely needed to hear some of this, especially the one about doing little by little is better than none at all. I too get overwhelmed and that thought process will be so helpful to me.
The one about it not being a family affair, i needed that also because often worry about my kids rooms and they are old enough to take on some of that also.

This could have been me talking. The perfection paralysis is real. I just cleaned my sewing cabinet out and tossed a bunch of things for trash and donation. I had some projects that ended up being more difficult and I knew I wasn't going to be able to do them...."perfectly". I am donating some. Just eliminating all the clutter and getting my projects ordered where I can see them has done amazing thing for my mindset. I'm eager to get back to it.
This video just... I know it sounds corny but had me "falling in love with you all over again. 😂😂😂 Loved it. My goal for the year is to be more intentional with my time, space, purchases, etc.

I love that you brought up your identity. This was something that was put on my heart in the last few weeks. When you started messy to minimal five years ago I wouldn’t have even called myself a Christian because I was so frustrated. Now, by the grace of God, I find my identity in Jesus and my husband and I are bringing our children to the Catholic faith!

Humanity’s need to create/force labels for everything and then their want to reject labels placed on them as an individual should tell us all we need to know-labels don’t help anything other than collecting people. And people aren’t meant to be collected like things. Love you, girl, and all of your amazing Natalie Bennett-ness 😘

Yes I’ve watched you on and off for a few years since Covid I think. You are much more relaxed and just “whatever it’s okay it doesn’t have to be perfect” which I love much better then the RUclipsrs who are “just do this and it’s perfect” that’s not real. I can 💯 see the shift.

I really enjoy your content. In the last 1-2 years I saw that you got more yourself like with clothes, colors… I am quite happy that I never fell into the „grey/beige“ thinking as I always knew that I love colors. What I really learned from your videos (and others): Things have to be easy. Decluttering gives space to put things away, to display what you love, to put away things without thinking (as we’re also an ADHD family this was… a revelation). Easy things don’t have to be stylish either. Does the open basket for my keys and change and stuff look pretty? No, but I would NEVER open an drawer to put it away or even open a lid.
Another learning of my minimalism journey of about 8 years is that seasons of life change. Especially with kids. Sometimes we might need or want more of one category or less of others. Sometimes we have the mental capacity to reevaluate things, sometimes not. As we reduced other stuff we actually increased our amount of board games as we really enjoy them for family time. We’re thinking about going back to physical music now that my son starts to be interested in some of the bands we enjoy and we want to be more independent from subscriptions. At the same time we currently let go of our toddler stuff and plan a big flea market with kids stuff together with other family members. For me the house has to stay manageable and stuff should never restrict us in any way (enough space to play, craft, doing sport…). We won’t clutter up the spaces for storage or fill a drawer to the point where it’s basically unusable. Otherwise I am pretty relaxed.
I use labels as „minimalist, historian, reader, crafter…“ as description, but probably they would better fit as description of the tools in my box than for myself. I also have a lot of interests and hobbies. And probably having hundreds of books might disqualify me as a minimalist 😅 But I actually repurchased a few books after I tried to reduce too far in the past, so I keep them although I am very minimal in other areas (wardrobe, decorations).

    • @NatalieBennett
      @NatalieBennett  17 часов назад +1

I have learned that nothing should disqualify you from being a minimalist because minimalism is not a religion. There’s no dogma here that we have to live up to- only what works best for us as we implement different strategies and standards for our own individual homes. You enjoy those books!♥️

The label thing is really important! Everything gets labeled these days. And as you said - then we are stuck with that label, but as humans we are so much more than that. We are supposed to change and grow and try new things. ❤
I liked how you said that minimalism is a tool we can use!

I, myself am coming out of my millennial gray Era and it is so freeing. My husband and I have found our decor vibe/ style and SURPRISE! It's not neutrals 🤣 Thank you for bringing this up. I grew up jn a very cluttered home so when I moved out, I purchased everything in gray to be the opposite of my parents. Turns out color doesn't equal clutter.

Number 5 was so spot on. It made me realize the issues that i have had with the minimalist channels. I'm not a minimalist. I like my home organized and seeing the things that i love, displayed. I have gotten rid of lots of stuff over the years but minimalist, never.
My line is "good enough for the life i live"! Lol
