Put the pot in a bucket full of water and let that soak for a few hours. This is just a quick fix. Change soil and get a bigger pot.

I've seen a LOT of fig pruning videos and yours was the best explained. It's like giving instructions on how to cook a recipe to someone who doesn't know how to cook. You need to explain every aspect thoroughly. You've done that. Kudos. I wish other people could master that skill! I do have a question though. First time growing fig trees. I grew fig cuttings in spring from twigs. NONE of the cuttings grew vertically with an apical bud. Instead, they all grew horizontal branching from the original cutting size. I've been in the process of growing one of the branches (the longest) vertically to establish that as the main trunk for next year. But I never got rid of the other branch. It's now almost the end of July. What should I do? Growing zone 7B. At what point should I snip the other branch because it sounds like I should have done that originally but at this point I'm unsure.

Someone else on youtube made a video about this. You have to water for 2-3 seconds. Stop. Let the water soak in while you water another tree. Then go back to that tree and water another 2-3 seconds. Rinse and repeat. By pre-soaking it allows the soil to absorb the water better. If you do it all at once the mass of the water along with gravity pull it down through the pot without giving it a chance to soak.

Yes! Go down a row watering and then return watering.

I had a single I-258 breba and unfortunately, it wasnt fantastic. I might've left it on the tree for too long. Hopefully, the main crop will justify its top tier classification.

Just replaced my i258 because the one I had before was a i258Not (purchased from eBay before I knew better 😂). No figs from my new i258 this season but I see double bumps so I’m thinking i might get breba next year if I don’t prune too hard.

Thanks so much for the video! I've watched a few videos on 1st year pruning and beyond, but I am a new fig owner having rooted 10 trees. 9 survived. I've decided to use your recommendation for training. Could I get some clarification please? What month do I cut back to 30". I live in central Arkansas and my first frost is beginning of November. From another video you speak of a later cut after potential dieback. About when would that be? In the Spring, I'll choose 4 branches and keep watching your channel for updates. Thanks so much.

  • @imout671

Thank you. This is all new to me. I typically find "volunteers" growing up around my fig trees. I stick the tiny shoots through the center hole in a black plastic pot and slowly add dirt all spring and by summer I've got a nice plant in a pot that well rooted. I cut them free from the ground with a saws all and either plant or give them away. Recently I've even weighted limbs to the ground with a block, covered the limb with dirt and get shoots with roots that way. What kind of method do you call what I'm doing?

    • @thenotoriousfig

    • @thenotoriousfig

I don't think so. The grafts are made by sellers who want to quickly propagate the variety. A single cutting with 3 nodes is 3 new trees to a skilled grafter.

This is the best mix for fruit trees that I have used my trees love this mix. I would like to use this self water pot great idea.... Thanks..
