@@nigelsoden1821 no worries Nigel.
Wonderful, thank you
St. Hilda’s story is often used in our modern world as an illustration of the ignorance of ancient cultures over against our rational scientific worldview, where people declare that the snake-stones are just fossils, and are in no way caused by St. Hilda. Perhaps the truest telos of these fossils was achieved once someone picked it off the beach and carved it into a snake. The saints participate in Christ’s defeat of death and demonic powers. The snake-stone must be an icon of this reality.
This is so right! Absolutely, Izzy, I am so with you here. The question is essentially one of relevance. Is a 45 million year old ammonite of greater relevance to me than a spiritual truth? Even the one who denies the spirit, must at least recognise the narrative power which reveals a path forward. How do I avoid certain pitfalls? How do I stop from missing the mark in my life? And also, the reductive materialist has to be honest in recognising this is as much a snake as it is an ammonite. There is absolutely nothing of the ammonite left in the rock but an impression, filled in by other minerals. It “is” what it speaks of. It is it’s symbolic appearance.
This is exactly right Izzy! The question 'what is it made of?' or 'how does it work?' is a little interesting, but the question 'what does it mean?' is infinitely more interesting, and impossibly deep.
Exciting stuff! Looking forward to the call tomorrow and future meet ups!
@DanielShalomLawrence See you tomorrow!
Great video!
❤❤❤ LOVE YOU GUYS 🌹🙏🌹👍🌹
Superb 🙏🏼🌹🙏🏼
I really love this. I had the same thoughts about Campbell's work, but could never put them into anything coherent.
cuthbert also had a bad leg which was supposedly healed by an angel on a horse asking to have his feet washed, cuthbert said he could not as he was in dire pain , why he was healed
his name is wilhelm cuthbert
being a cuthbert i went to durham from canada i was spoiled rotten because of my name i am a cuthbert
I am thrilled to discover you! I live in Australia and was your age in the 70's experiencing the Jesus movement. I've been praying for the last 2 decades for "intelligent young men" knowing that an awakening to Jesus would come about in a way we've never seen before. You guys are doing it! Then, I've been praying for England over the past 15 years or so. There is a depth of a spiritual heritage in the land that is ripe for re-discovery. These "thin places" haven't changed. Keep on this journey. You have the potential and indeed the commission to influence a whole generation!
@@jennyeddison Thank you for these kind words. Have a blessed new year.
Wow! What an absolutely AMAZING, insightful, and WONDERFUL reflection on an ultimate classic movie! Thank you, Oliver, for sharing this commentary on my all-time FAVORITE movie from a Christian perspective! This has long been my very FAVORITE movie for MANY, MANY years! There is just so MUCH to reflect on. And now you gave me some new things to consider! This was so VERY deep and profound! I enjoyed this so MUCH that I'm going to try to share it with all my friends - ESPECIALLY my Christian friends! What a beautiful, WONDERFUL reflection on a truly beautiful, WONDERFUL movie! ❤

My friend is Austrian and she said Krampus was literally terrifying as a kid. I'd never even heard of it until a few years ago. Krampus would come and attack school kids on their way home from school. From what she described it had no redeeming features.
Great work guys, i really enjoyed this
I am highly skeptical of the pagan origins of Krampus. The earliest references are people in the 19th century saying they thought it had pagan origins. People in the 19th century thought everything had pagan origins, but most supposed ancient traditions which have been examined in any detail have turned out to be products of late medieval Christian society: Christmas trees, Yule logs, guising, etc etc. Some are even more recent, Friday 13th superstitions begin in the mid 20th century. The Krampus phenomenon is interesting, but I would err towards an early modern, probably post reformation origin
@@sigurdholbarki8268 Interesting. Thanks for this.
@@OliverMurrayYTno worries, looking forward to the meet up tonight
Beautiful! Thank you for making this!
My pleasure! Thank you for watching it.
The Christmas Tree comes from the Germanic 'Paradise Tree', which was the tree of life from a tradition of having a play depicting the Fall with Adam and Eve.

Brilliant chat gents. Thank you for all the elucidation 🙏 (pun intended)
I do think that people exploring so called spiritualities is long term a good thing. They are looking for “more”. Great discussion guys.
Very good convo. May I suggest that this dialogue should have a touch more of 'ugency' to it without losing it's tone or context. It's not a 'you' thing, it's definitely a 'me' thing. My attention span and what not. It feels everything here could have been said within 45-50 minutes to keep engagement. I'm sorry for giving my unwarranted advice. I really do hope that this channel goes places as the content and nuances are stellar and are usually missed by other Christian content creators on this platform.
The conversation was organic, so I’m happy with it being in its current format
Ooh, new channel. Nice.
This is why the liturgical year is so important, it provides a structure of enactment and participation in all aspects of life. When going through a dark time in your life or a time of anticipation and waiting you can draw on the wisdom and practices of advent for example. As Advent also looks towards the second coming there is a sense in which we are in a perpetual advent as well. In the darkness of this present age we can look forward to the bright hope of Christ.
@DanielShalomLawrence Absolutely. And extremely well put. Thank you, Daniel.

Hello, what church, if any, are you referring to when you say "the ancient liturgical pattern the church gives us"?

Im full blown believer, ive seen some tough stuff, ion afraid to die, but dont wont ill a feel lil scared, but will be with now alive and alive eternity
Hi Oliver. Today is the Feast of St Hilda. There was a calendar change ! We lost almost two weeks in Britain. The date of the 19th which the Church fixed for her feast day, now falls on the 30th. Ihave this Dainty as my Baptismal name. What an awesome example of a holy life, esp her understanding of the Council of Whitby held in 664AD. Thanks for your video.
Dearest Oliver, I pray it went well. Don’t forget the Nativity Fast through “Advent” aka St Philip fast. All fasts are best done with a Spiritual Father who, knowing us, is able to use this healing “modality” to its upmost. The Church has guidelines set out for us in the Canons. Like any “law” there is a principle and following the letter of the law turns out be Pharisaical. May Christ bless your fast unto the salvation of your soul. I was able to do all sorts of spiritual feats and exercises…until I got Baptised in-Christ; the war against the evil one got real.
I am of the Frith clan from north east and your video has inspired me immensely.
Very beautiful, thank you! St. Cuthbert pray for us and for peace in the world.
What is really wild is that “convent” and “coven” share the same etymology.
Eider ducks otherwise known as Cuddy’s (Cuthberts’) ducks. This is where we get Eider down from probably from the tale that Cuthbert prayed whilst stood in the water just off Cuthberts’ island, & the ducks kept him warm. As the water is beyond cold, it’s freezing
Your videos are excellent - so glad to have found your channel!

Catholics aren’t Christians. You must be born again through The Spirit. Not by works. Children aren’t capable of making that decision yet. Water baptism is an outward expression of what God has done. Like wearing a wedding ring. All thats required is recognition that you are wicked no different then everyone else and have broken the moral law 10 commandments and then humble your self and come to Jesus talk with him with a humble open heart and He will forgive you. The wages of sin is death. God is paying us in death for our sins and a righteous judge will not turn away from the judgement that must take place. God got off the judge seat and wrote himself into the story to paid our court fines to reverse the curses on us and the land. Just like the thief on the cross you just come to Jesus in repentance. Catholics have been manipulated to think the Pope is who you go to and a priest called father. When scripture says not too. Mary was a virgin, but immaculate conception is false Mary wasn’t sinless. Then she wouldn’t have needed a savior she wouldn’t need God.
❤❤❤
I love the phrase “The flattening out of Christianity “. I think that is so true, when you discard the stories that can teach us about faith and ourselves then all that is left is procedure.
