@ Oliver Murray, I like your RUclips channel brother, and I think it’s amazing how you found Christ again. Or, that you just found him as your Lord and Savior. Our Lord Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. When it comes to my testimony, I was raised as a Pentecostal, but I found Jesus in the most complete way in the holy Orthodox Church. It’s a long story, but the main thing is, I know where I belong. Now, I’m English and Scottish descent from the United States from Georgia. So, I might’ve had Anglican ancestors. What do you think about the eastern orthodox church Oliver? One reason why I converted to a Orthodox. It was because of the Christian mysticism and being raised is a Pentecostal us I would try to speak in tongues. However, I received it. God bless you for keeping your faith in Christ and the secular United Kingdom.
Thanks for your comment, Elijah. Yes, I did not have any Christian background growing up. Thanks for sharing your previous experience as a Pentecostal. I have a huge amount of respect for the Orthodox Church, especially for the mystical tradition and iconography which it has so beautifully preserved. I have read some of St Maximus the Confessor and the first volume of The Philokalia. I would say that the historic settlement in England is complicated, and we also have our King aligned to the church here. The English and Irish Saints that are dearest to me also happen to be recognised and venerated in Orthodoxy. I think they have a lot to teach us in the 21st Century. God bless you as you continue to walk with Christ.
"Plans made after advice succeed; so with wise guidance wage your war." -Proverbs 20:18 In the name of Jesus the Nazarene King of the Jews, I pray I can share this with you. For Lent last year, I was taken to task and though I stumbled, the adage "adapt and overcome" proved absolutely necessary. May God's grace be with you! Vaya con Dios!!
Thanks for sharing, Oliver. And please remember that fasting without repentance is futile. Practices are important, but spiritual struggle comes first. Just some (hopefully) humble advice from a fellow beginner. God bless you, your wife, and your baby. 🙏
Dearest Oliver, I pray it went well. Don’t forget the Nativity Fast through “Advent” aka St Philip fast. All fasts are best done with a Spiritual Father who, knowing us, is able to use this healing “modality” to its upmost. The Church has guidelines set out for us in the Canons. Like any “law” there is a principle and following the letter of the law turns out be Pharisaical. May Christ bless your fast unto the salvation of your soul. I was able to do all sorts of spiritual feats and exercises…until I got Baptised in-Christ; the war against the evil one got real.
Glory to Jesus Christ! Thanks for sharing. I’m planning on doing something similar. Not eating in between meals is really tough at first, but it’s really worth it.
Have a blessed Lent.🙏

Thank you, Bob. Wishing you the very same as you soon prepare for Pascha.

Thanks, Marya. Have a blessed Lent.
In this time and age, it’s best to make it public and let people know about God, self-denial and improvement.
Virtue signal instead of following the word of god... oof.
