About to pull the trigger on a 997.1 tiptronic turbo. Wonder how it compares to the S PDK. Have a manual 997 C4S with Hartech 4.1 conversion, but expecting the turbo to be more fun. Let’s see.

I bought one 6 months ago and have done 7000 miles in it. I agree with most of what you say. It only does slightly less mpg than my E46 2.5ci on my 270ish a week commute (220 motorway) but around town it is pretty bad however the torque monster engine always makes me smile when I wake it. 😎

Bought my 996 C4 January 2024. Love this car. Would like a 964 air cooled but can’t afford one. The 996 is in my mind a better car but not a purist air cooled.

The 997.2 turbo is one of the best Porsche ever built.

Have an 03 Cab 996.2 for 6 years now and driven a lot of cars. This era formulated lean manufacturing with the help of pinky lai from toyota to communize parts with the boxter to restore profitability in addition to the SUV's which also helped recover high engineering costs. Best decision of my life and smile every time it hits operating temp at 100 mph on the highway roof down flat 6 behind you amazzing!!! It really is a jet on rails so precise and reliable as I daily it even in toronto winters once roads get reasonable cleared. Just clean it underneath come spring:)

Was so tempted to buy one of these but like CRX too so got that but I'd love one of these also and yes the Japanese had it absolutely perfect with indicators on Right stalk so you can steer, change gear and still flick signal, finally someone else that says it 😊

I have a 1993 124 300TE in South Africa, similar to the one in this video (but with leather upholstery) It's a beauty! 1 lady owner when I bought it in 2016 (gave me a file with every service & repair since new). Sadly, I live near the beach & use the car to lug my building tools & materials, so its starting to rust on the roof, mainly around the sunroof opening & the interior is starting to show its age...but that applies to me too, so I'm not too fussed... Don't think I'll ever need another car, this ones a keeper!

I just bought a 96 type s right side drive as a dream car… and let me tell you, this car…… is fucking sickkkkkkk.

I’ve got my ‘05 650 for almost 8 years now and added over 100K km. Still love it to bits and stay on top of maintenance, even did quite a bit of preventative also like water pump, alternator and engine and gearbox mounts. With a KW V3 suspension it really gets alive and quicker in the corners while maintaining comfort imo. Like it lost 300lbs. Next month it will be fitted with a complete Supersprint exhaust, OS Giken LSD and different bits, bins and upgrades in between (powerflex subframe bushings and JXB driveshaft carrier). Also fitting new Xenon projectors from retrofitlabs since one is getting dim. Will make it livelier and more powerful for sure. Getting a proper engine tune also for the new exhaust.

it handles even better with the roof down... all that roof mass up high gets stowed low in the boot... right over the rear wheels. So dynamically it is better with it down....

I compared these to a r172 mercedes slk 350, I bought the mercedes even though it was a 2012, it was a much nicer car and easily beats the boxster in value and cost of ownership.

I'm in the UK and have a 35iS too which I'm never selling - there are only 393 left on the road in the UK and the max was 439 in 2015, so getting rarer every year. It's my daily driver and it's super fun to drive hard. Those who know, know. Those who don't know ask me if it's tuned or mapped when it's all stock, including all the pops and crackles. I think it is the only good looking car BMW have made in the last 20 years, with the exception of the i8 of course.

Why would I know that it existed when BMW’s own in house M division didn’t even know that generation of Z4 existed, E85/6 are the only notable Z4 the rest are total flops.

The 2010 E89 Z4 35is was my first and only car. Even though it was a bottomless money pit, the stupid grin it puts on my face every time I get behind the wheel was priceless. Pity I had to relocate and had to sell it.

Sure its forgotten, the 35is is hard to find. Same with the previous gen's z4 n52 version, the z4 3.0si. Very very cool cars, a z4 with the holy grail engine (if you dont mind the maintenance)

The e89 has been completely off my radar. Never appealed to me when new, but they are looking good these days. I imagine there is a lot that can go wrong with that powertrain though.

I used to own an N54 e92 335i with the 7 speed DCT unusually it was the DCT that started playing up before the N54 did 😂

The 35is probably the least reliable Z4 trim, similar to the infamous 335i. The NA trim with the N52 and a manual is the one to get for this e89 Z4 generation.

Had my 997.2 turbo S going on 8 years. This is an incredibly fast car with carbon ceramic brakes and launch control. I still get the sensation I am driving a stupidly fast weapon that is somewhat easy to drive. With top speed being a mood point (1/4 mile and 0-60 isn't), the turbo S is the fastest 997 they made. It is reliable and just an all-around great car with practically all of the modern features of the cars in front of it 991, 992 etc. except rear wheel steering. Its smaller than the modern ones but does not feel small inside. If you can get your hands on, buy it.

When i passed my driving test at 23 in 2004 my bro let me drive his e46 m3 smg drop in carbon black with black nappa. I was so hooked on the car i'd get up very early every day, pinch the keys and take the big cat for sprints with the top down. Those were some of the best days of my life. The s54 had that deep bassy hum coupled with a fizzing top note and screeching exhaust. Even after all these years i get goosebumps when i reminisce ❤
