Great watch again Carl and watching makes me want to try this trail. Great commentary along with tips and ideas of camping spots . One of the best videos of the G.G.W. Well done you are right it can be very time consuming filming etc. brilliant stuff. Cheers for sharing . Andy
@@justandy1035 Thanks Andy. It's a good trail with some very interesting places along the way such as it's connection with the training areas of the WW2 commandos and the restoration of the old invergarry rail station. I had a great time walking the GGW and at a time of year when the trees were at there most beautiful too. Thanks for watching (again) hope it gives you an insight ahead of your own trip. Cheers, Carl
Great video Carl. The bivy of bivvies! I love my Observer too. What insulated jacket is that? Helikon? ATB, Paul
@@Pauls2025 Hi Paul yes the observer is certainly the benchmark bivvy. You're bang on with the jacket mate it's the Helikon wolfhound 👍
@@carljohnsonoutdoors is the Wolfhound worth the money? Warm enough?
@@Pauls2025 it's a good jacket and probably good enough for all but the coldest night's. Unlike some of the Helikon stuff it runs true to size too. For instance I'm a medium but I have a Helikon patriot fleece that fits just right but is a small. The medium just buried me. But the wolfhound runs to actual size. Unfortunately for me I bought a small thinking it would be the same but found it too snug. So I got rid of the one in this video and bought a medium 👍
Great footage. It somehow looks super splendid with the snow and wind. Great re -edit mate. Looked a good camp
@@justandy1035 Thanks Andy. Was a good few years ago that one but remember it well - camps like that don't come round very often unfortunately. Thanks for watching, all the best, Carl
Are you back Carl?😊

Thank you Carl all the way from Australia. I have really enjoyed watching your videos, very thorough and informative.
Looking at doing the WHW in the next year, possibly solo for my 50 year. Of all the RUclips videos I've watched yours are the most detailed and informative so far.
@@narellezealey1049 Hello Narelle, Thank you so much for the positive comments. Very much appreciated. I would highly recommend you do it. I was 50 myself when I did it for the first time. I completed it for a sixth time in April this year taking a couple of lifelong friends along with me for their first time on the way. Glad you enjoyed the videos and that you've found them interesting !
Looking forward to winter camps again! Enjoyed that video. Subbed 😊
I don't think you can beat a really good winter camp. Thanks for watching and subbing. Much appreciated 👍
Totally BS

@@heathercampbell6906 Good morning Heather. Yes I remember meeting you both. I hope you are both well. I've been getting out still - in fact I've done the WHW again for a sixth time in April. Haven't been filming anything but I'm going to begin again very soon. This is just an old one that's been sitting there for a while and just made public after a re edit. Great little re-edit mate, love that place.

I loved your walk and I think you covered Connor's memory very well. I am hoping to start the walk Tomorrow 4/9/24 And all I can say about the lack of fauna is dear dear. Great video and I hope to get somewhere close to what you did.
what a grand adventure. i enjoyed it very much. thank you for letting me come along. Dwayne

Great video! We are going in August. Also over 6 days but our stops are at slightly different places except for blackwater campsite. Cannot wait!! Will have a look for Conner's rock
Good luck with your WHW adventure and thanks for watching the video. Much appreciated All the best, Carl
Hi Colin I messaged you regarding do the way. Monday is my start day. Nervous a little but a oh. Connor’s rock is it just left over the bridge a little. Going to have like I said a wee dram. From glegoine distillery hopefully if I can find it thanks Darren 👍🏻
Hi Darren, all the best for your forthcoming west highland way trip. Enjoy every minute it's a great trail and a great experience. I completed it for the sixth time last month and already long to return! Good luck 👍 All the best Carl
What a great video. This is a must watch for anyone considering doing the G.G.W
Thanks for watching and commenting Tony. It seems an age ago now. I must get back up there and walk this route once again. All the best,Carl
Hi, what brand are those black water bottles you’re using?
Hello, they are made by Sistema. Hope that is of help. Thanks for watching 👍
@@carljohnsonoutdoors nice video.
Still one of the best WHW videos out there . Still worth an hour out of my day every now and again. Makes me want it do it again
Hi from Ireland..Great vid ..we walked it in year 2000..one of the best experiences ever..brought back good memories.. Your did your friend proud..a perfect spot to lay his ashes.🙂
Hi Dave, thank you for watching the video and for your kind comments. Much appreciated 👍
Thanks for showing a lot of the country side. I am doing the WHW this May, 2024 and I was interested in the weather. I will look up your other video for planning.
@@outdoorswalker3744 Thanks for watching and commenting, you'll find a greater wealth of information in some of my later videos from subsequent hikes of the way which I'm sure will help you in your planning. Good luck with your forthcoming trip. I hope the weather treats you well. All the best, Carl
Thoroughly enjoyed watching that Carl, and thanks for taking us along with you. I'm planning to walk/wild camp the WHW later this year, so I'm busy watching as many films about the walk as I can, this has to be one of the best I've seen so far, great editing and sensitive use of music , packed with lots of useful info on where to stay...- oh and Connor's loved ones should be proud of you mate.
Hi Maurice. Thanks for your kind words regarding the video.its much appreciated. It's hard to believe almost five years have passed since I scattered his ashes at the rock. I'm walking the way again in April for the sixth time and will be calling to raise a whisky to my pal and polish his plaque up. Good luck with your own journey, All the best, Carl
So many memories. Beautiful video.
Hi Shan thanks so much for watching and commenting all the best,Carl
Great footage, heartfelt tribute to Connor. I'm going in May and I will look out for his rock.
Hi many thanks for watching and good luck with your own journey along the way in may. All the best, Carl 👍
I’m hoping to do this in Late April / Early May. One thing I’ve always wondered, without having two or three juicers, is there anywhere to charge your phone, devices or juicers at campsites or pubs on route? Thanks and well done
Hello yes you shouldn't have a problem recharging your electricals. Most places are happy for you to plug in your phone/power bank etc as long as you're eating in etc. also campsites such as Drymen/beinglas/blackwater also allow you to plug in if you're staying. Thanks for watching and good luck for your trip. 👍
Thanks very much 👍
Hi, Carl! Great video! We 've thought about walking the Cape Wrath Trail, but are not fully convinced because of the extremely boggy ground and the midges there. The West Highland Way now seems to fit better to our abilities. Thx for the inspiration! Cheers, Christiane and Werner
I'm sure you would not regret choosing to walk the west highland way. Although I've not yet walked the Cape wrath trail it has a reputation of being the UK's toughest trail. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy your walk of the WHW. Good luck, Carl
